Latest source engine, new character and weapon models, new animations that fully take advantage of source's animation system... No textures or models from before 2007 and no sounds from before half life 2 (although i miss the old zombie noises). Longer than episode one but it doesn't necessarily have to be longer than episode two. What i expect is the latest source engine, if a new version comes out before then then i expect that to That's what i expect. Agree/disagree?
I expect moved to either a new branch of the engine built off build 2009 or onto that of L4D2. I also expect a lot of ported content, weapons, fences, boxes, etc. However I think valve will overall improve some characters. I expect very little from valve given their past work.

You don't expect them putting HL2 citizens and rebels with 2 fingers in a 2012 game do you.

Portal 2 showcases the sort of quality EP3 will be.
The fuck are you talking about.
All unimportant, human-figured models on source have their pinky, ring finger, and middle finger connected together.

EP3 will be set almost directly after EP2 so they can simply recycle many art assets. Such as the fact we still have a "props_c17" folder in EP2. I highly doubt valve will drop their current .gcf system in exchange for .vpk in Episode Three, they will likely stick with a similar engine branch, update some content and make use of pre-existing shared assets. From a logistical point of view it makes sense and gives them more time to focus on wrapping up the story.
All unimportant, human-figured models on source have their pinky, ring finger, and middle finger connected together.
Never noticed.
Never noticed.
That's why they did it. It's only really noticeable if you're looking for it, or trying to use the models in gmod.
That's why they did it. It's only really noticeable if you're looking for it, or trying to use the models in gmod.
Oh shit, I remember now. Like how male_07 has that white bone thing in his wrist.
I also expect a lot of ported content, weapons, fences, boxes, etc. However I think valve will overall improve some characters.
they're probably going to use L4D2 content for the environment, like CS:GO
I hope it will be on the Portal 2 engine at least.
All unimportant, human-figured models on source have their pinky, ring finger, and middle finger connected together.
*only in old games. in Left 4 Dead series even zombies are more detailed than Alyx in Half-Life 2. Oh and re-used props that still look good from l4d or portal 2 =/= bad game.
Realy? Common infected are very low in polly. They dont even have eyes. I think you are wrong there. But the special infected (except maybe the tank, but he'd require too many polygons to appear perfect) ) look fantastic. I dont mind the good looking models/textures being reused from past games.. just the bad ones. Like Hl2's "junk". All the Character and weapon models need to be redone. One thing that bothers me is that important characters get more detail on them than generic characters that you see often. I think for episode 3 the combine soldiers need as much detail on them as a L4d2 survivor. The rebels would do well with lots of bodygroups (a few arms, a few uper bodies and a few lower bodies with loads of heads.) It would be nice for zombies to not have their own model but instead use other models and then have a zombie shader come on them and give them a chest moth model and claw models. This would mean that we dont see clone zombies but don't get a giant file size increase

I think, only from what i have seen.. the most pollys are in the portal 2 co op bots. Maybe l4d2's hunter.
Hey guys, great debate you have going on here, but I have something I'd like to bring up. I don't know if someone's already brought this up before, but here it goes. Valve is up for best studio of the year, and Portal 2 is up for best game of the year at the SpikeTV VGAs. With all the announcements at it last year, even Skyrim was announced there, I foresee something great coming from Valve. I mean, it would make sense if they announced/showed off something huge there. Dota 2 and CS:GO are already close to being shipped, and they are just two small multiplayer side projects. They need to show off a large scale, single player title, and I think Episode 3 would be that title. So, I'm gonna go ahead and say I think they'll show Episode 3 at the VGAs. If not Episode 3, some other large scale project at least. I don't know, it just makes sense to me that this is where and when it would happen.
Could be seeing this stuff maybe? [THUMB]http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/images/11/march/mystery.jpg[/THUMB]
Yeah, I saw that too. Weird as hell, but it could be a new IP they plan to show.
Could be seeing this stuff maybe? [THUMB]http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/images/11/march/mystery.jpg[/THUMB]
Maybe that's the space game "sob" from the Dota 2 leak.
Maybe that's the space game "sob" from the Dota 2 leak.
Most likely. WAIT, I'VE CRACKED IT: THAT'S A NEW SOCIETY THAT INHABITS THE BOREALIS. /sarcasm
Maybe that's the space game "sob" from the Dota 2 leak.
If I remember correctly, one of the Valve devs stated in an interview that these concept arts are just some concept arts made by some devs. Not project related.
its going to be left 4 dead 3 and episode 3 [editline]26th November 2011[/editline] maybe not episode 3

to be honest, id be okay with a l4d3, three years would be a good distance between 2 and 3 although episode 3 would be great
Yeah, I'm about ready for the Half-Life 2 series to conclude. I know many, many people have said this, but I've waited long enough! Come on Valve, we're not going to abandon you once the fun is over, there's still plenty to be had. Now stop pulling on us to see how far we stretch and give us the damn game! >:c
