The Portal comic reference plus the Steam Translation bit makes me almost certain that HL3 is getting announced very soon.

Valve does a good job at making sure all employee's to not say a single thing about HL3 until the time is right.
All of those little things like the lambda symbol and the three lights on that steam sale picture with Santa Claus is really REALLY making me hyped.
I hope we get some more hints of some sort on Christmas. But I and others will likely be disappointed :(

I think the lambda symbol alone is perfect. I mean it's not cryptic, in other language or behind 100 filters. It's right there - a lambda in a circle, not even rotated against the camera.

I think that combine 2.0 is a lot sexier. Not too futuristic or tacticool, but the hl2's combine looks more like "80's-20's combine"

if valve is running an ARG, it's likely they just put only one or two small hints in a picture, not more
every time someone find something that might be a hint, thousands go mad and imagine tons of patterns and shit in the picture
subtlety is the key
the lambda, the socks might be part of an ARG, they could also be just artworks that an artist think it could be cool to add valve game related content in it
it there's an ARG, valve wants to make us think, so there won't be definite proofs of a new game like patterns in the sky saying "OMG it's coming!!§§", just small hints exactly like the lambda, so we can't be sure
