this could take another 4 years for all I care. I just want it. and I want it perfect, just like all other valve games.
L4D2 seemed pretty good to me, I don't know what you're going on about.

l4d2 is probably one of my favorite games, and definitely the BEST zombie game ever made.
It's a good game but it really isn't perfect like Fang30 said.
It isn't perfect but it's unique so it makes up for it. I really like the game modes and competitive play in l4d2 more than most other games
Since L4D2 was the last "Real" npc game, I wouldent be surprised. I honestly expect ep3 to be everything valve was experimenting with, maybe they might even perfect File streaming ( http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Source#File_streaming Something I can honestly say works as I have the xbox version of Half-Life 2. Imaged based rendering might work wonders for some parts, though I cant say me not being totally familiar with the technology.).
Streaming SOUNDS like a good idea, but in practice (See Half Life 2 with it implemented on PC) it really doesn't work to well.
Also see GTA 4's ridiculous studded when traveling.

Did you ever play Halo? If you've ever played that, you'd see that the only loading times are before starting a level, and all the loading that's done while playing takes less than a second, which makes for much more fluid gameplay.

I dunno, Killing Floor gives it a run for its money.

Not really considering it got pretty shit reviews when it first came out.
I'm still holding on to my idea that Valve are actually perfecting a dynamic water system because of the arctic setting.
And what do dynamic water sprays make? Rainbows!

I think it's more likely they're just going to use source again.

What would stop them implementing a dynamic water system into the Source engine?
Y'know... if such a thing were possible at the moment.
They implemented dynamic lighting, why not dynamic water?

Because it can take days to render a few minutes of realistically flowing water. Computers aren't even close to handling it. It is nothing like dynamic lighting.

It's probably gonna have what bioshock had. Those icemodels with melting animations of sorts.
I never really liked Dynamic water in games.
I'm like "cool" and then that's about it.
What I'm actually expecting in EP3, is amazing animations.
The water in crysis 2 is incredible, something like that would be great in EP3

Well physx seems to have no problem rendering dynamic water. So obviously it's possible.

That won't be a worry considering that most of Valve's animators worked for Pixar at one point.

But is Crysis 2's water dynamic as in: pools of water can empty an fill by redirecting water flows? Because that would be amazing.
What I want to know is if they're improving graphics, how the hell are they going to change how characters look? I think it will be very interesting and that is probably one of their biggest challenges.
Also, Gordon Freeman in 30 years.

Well "real" raytraced lighting would take same about of time if not more. Clever game developers fake things to make them cheaper to render maintaining only functions you need for the game. For example Hydrophobia's water only simulates in height, so it's far from true liquid. But it does exactly what is needed - it can fill rooms, push physics objects, create waves etc. Or look at From Dust for another example.
11PM, Valve time. The Steam store goes down.
11:30PM, still Valve time. A countdown to the New Year pops up.
12AM, New Year's Day. A 3 appears on the store page.
[del]LEFT 4 DEAD 3[/del]
And then, nothing. Just a small glimmer of hope among the community.

That would be catastrophic.

Nor Mine....
Nor Mine....
That's because it's mine!
On topic, I'm also wondering about how they're going to take the Half-life art style. Are they going to leave it as it is (sharp textures yet no fog etc) or are they going to go more for a L4D atmosphere with lots of fog and more "rounded" textures.

I'm hoping for the same art-style as previous Half-Life games, just higher quality textures. Half-Life doesn't need to change to keep up to date, It's aging very well.
