That honestly scared me more than any other part in Episode 2. Even as I was climbing up the ladder I knew that something would pop out as soon as I got to the top, and even still I freaked out.

I love playing the HL2 beta tbh, I love playing any beta that was leaked and I wish developers would give alpha and beta builds publicly, it's so interesting watching them evolve into final copies.

I'm pretty sure the exploit is fixed up and it was a big thing for valve because it could of potentially ruined their company but luckily it was saved. I don't want people to leak a hl3 beta because it could potentially ruin the game for me if I haven't played the final first.

Yeah, I'm glad noone has, it would be nice to know it exists though, I'm really tired of Valve's exceptional ability to avoid it completely. Well at least we've been harassing them so much lately that they have to start being blunt about things.

but I would like an overall darker story; E.G.
You arrive in a rebel (or scientist / refugee) colony, you hope to find some resource, or warmth, shelter, anything; but when you get there all the doors are locked to the few buildings, you and alyx find a way to force open a door, you find (somehow, writing on the wall? notes? Alyx just says it?) that they all ran our of resources, and slowly had to turn to cannibalism, when people were not staying still trying to preserve energy, they where fighting over who got to gorge on their neighbors.
Creepy shit like that.

Along with a Skeleton holding a slightly smaller skeleton and a handgun, surrounded by other skeletons all pointing toward the first skeletons, followed by a pile of spent cartridges and a headless skeleton with a shotgun by its side.
All of that would just depressify the entire scene.
Imagine What would happen if Valve extended the ending of EP2 and then announced the new Half-Life shortly after? Oh man I can already imagine what would happen to the community, steam goes down, then spuf goes down, this thread reaches hyperspeed and facepunch goes down as well, after that every other forum that had HL discussion threads goes down and there's nowhere left to discuss about Half-Life. I'm sure that's impossible though, but I would laugh so hard if something like that happened.

I had a much more morbid and complete thought. What if one day Gabe Newell ends up in the hospital, perhaps relating to his admittedly overweight physique. There's no telling if he'll get better, and his hospital stay could go on for weeks. Through this Steam has an event that in some way ties to the release of Episode 3, perhaps something that also helps to support Gabe in the hospital through moral help, and if we reach the goal we get the announcement of Episode 3, and a better chance at Gabe's recovery (because he'll be happy at all the support), and if we fail then I dunno, we don't fail that's what. (And just so he knows we aren't just doing it for Episode 3, it isn't told whether its for Episode 3 until we succeed)

HL2 took place over a period of about 1 1/2 weeks.
Ep1 was about 1/2 days.
Ep2 was about 1/2 days.
Suppression field has only been down for 4 days tops, plus we have no real idea how it inhibits the development of key enzymes in creating a foetus. It may take a couple weeks for the body to get back into shape. Though Kliener does urge them to procreate as soon as possible.
