The story of the One Free Crowbar:
It all started in Black Mesa; it was just an ordinary crowbar with 'PROPERTY OF BLACK MESA' stamped into it. Then, one day, the most powerful human being on earth began to wield it through the midst of an alien invasion. The huge amounts of blood covering it... [I]changed[/I] it.
After this man was put into stasis, a man named Barney Calhoun found it. It was all that he thought was left of his best friend, so he kept it.
20 years go by. Barney is manning security monitors at a Combine-controlled train station, and sees the unthinkable...

He got him to Kleiner's lab, and after a slight teleportation mishap, gave it back to him. It was used for the next 10 days to fight the Combine when Gordon needed it most.
Then, he lost it to the Citadel's weapon stripper. It was teleported to a storage room. An hour later, the top layer of the citadel, where confiscated weapons are kept, exploded. The properties gained by it in Black Mesa protected it; it was flung halfway through City 17, landing at the feet of Barney Calhoun. He kept it once more.
Mere hours later, it is returned to Gordon. Once again, it is used to pummel Combine forces to a fine pulp.
Then, it is caught in a massive dark fusion explosion, and survives; it is flung into the gears of a mine elevator, and makes it particularly unstable. The Freeman finds it once more, and removes it, but plummets into the mines. He then takes it up, once more...
I thought you got a different crowbar in HL1 when the soldiers knock you out and try to kill you.
You forgot the part where the Marines took it (and everything else) from you in Half-Life.

He's dead. He was in the very middle of an explosion powerful enough to blow up 1/3 of the Citadel. Even if he had somehow survived he would have fallen several kilometers to the ground below.

Beats me.
It's just weird they'd even mention it.
I can only imagine he was brought out by the advisors right before the explosion.
Obviously Valve knew it was a pretty big thing to gamble with.
It's like taking out Kleiner in Episode 1. He's a pretty big part of the story.
But that's different. Kliner still has a purpose, being one of the Resistance leading Scientists.
Dr. Breen was nothing in comparison. He was a puppet, he was only there to talk to the people and control some of the Overwatch Forces. Nothing's changed since his death other than the discontinuation of Breencasts. The Advisors directly control the Combine Overwatch themselves now, they don't need Breen.
Breen is done. There is no reason to bring him back, and doing so would be very cliche anyway.
It would be cool to bring Breen back.

i thought of a good boss battle you and alyx escape through a tunnel of zombies then a tank comes to kill you and breen jumps on top of it and the zombies are trying to get to you on top of the tank with breen and you dual fist fight it out.
That would be totally ramp.
