I'd be most pleased if they announced a "New Source" game engine, but I don't think it will deliver along side with the episode 3. But most definitely in Half-life 3!
It is tricky though, given how long it has already taken for Episode 3, people are expecting a lot more from it than what the Episodes 1 and 2 were. I don't, though.
Edit I have a itchy feeling in my ass though that they are just gonna stick with Source and update it on and on. If so, they better work on a major update for the Source, for the future of their games. One can dream..
Four years later; PlatinumSrc! :v:
I'm hoping that the end of Portal 2 will have you stumble upon the Borealis and just stare at it. Then the screen fade to black, that achievement pop up, then have a really, really small teaser for Episode 3 or something. Like they did in Episode 1.
I'm wondering how the Combine would be properly defeated. If the garrison on Earth is completely destroyed, then the main Empire could always try and send more.
When the Citadel's dark fusion reactor (The device on top that powers the portal array) was destroyed, Dr. Kleiner mentioned that as a result, the Citadel network on Earth (Because there is probably more than one) has been disrupted as a result. Perhaps Gordon somehow causes a chain reaction that permanently disables or destroys every Citadel, as they are all linked.
Perhaps Gordon will just cut off the snake's head and the epilogue will be "and thus humanity united with the other slave races and fought against the disorientated oppressors". Well, if we get a good end anyway. My guess is G-Man has yet to reveal what's really going on (with Gordon being a hero for hire etc.).
Well, Eli wanted us to destroy the Borealis really badly, didn't he?
What if we encounter the Borealis and its secrets, and then blows it up thus causing another resonance cascade. HL3 anyone?
Meh, it's a silly theory, but one can dream.
Also, last year Valve said that they had THREE surprises for us. Can't remember what the first one was (something Portal 2 related I believe), the second one was DOTA 2 and the third one...
Well, it has the number three in it.
after Episode 3 expect a full on war with other inter dimensional species fighting to destroy the combine

Here, have a rainbow
I'm maybe being optimistic or ignorant but they MUST reveal EP3 at this year's E3, or at least somewhere around that.
They MUST.
Half life related, I bought this in a shop today for 50p, bargain. I've never seen it before, I thought it was an illegal copy at first but steam detected what it was:

I want at least Half Life 3 (not Episode 3) to be in the Combine universe. Not for the whole game. Just the last chapter or so like Half Life 1 was in Xen.
I'm expecting Half Life 3 to be about as different to Half Life 2 as Half Life 2 was to Half Life 1 in terms of setting and characters.
so im guessing that in ep3 we find the apeture teleporter and we go to destroy the combine world
alyx or barney will not go there since they dont have the hazard suit (maybe the combine world is full of radation or something )

Can I have Half-Life: Source?
we go to destroy the combine world
And how the FUCK would that take place? Would we just charge in and shoot stuff? We'd get overwhelmed in seconds.

We are talking about the Freeman here. The guy that went through an alien infested Black Mesa by himself, carrying only a crowbar and some other minor weaponry.
The guy that took on the combine forces on earth almost entirely by himself, all while being a silent badass.
The guy that has access to the developer console, and can use cheats such as impulse 101 and godmode.
The combine world wouldn't stand a chance.

I wouldn't say "by himself". I still think everything has been planned by GMan.

Funny ^^

I understand where your sense of humour is coming from, but Gordon wouldn't stand a chance if he was all alone on the Combine Overworld. Hell, if the entire resistance travelled there, they would still likely be pounded into swift submission.

Whether they were imprisoned or not, Gordon ran straight through the Xen world's forces killing almost everything that got in his way and even killed Nilhilanth. While the Combine probably have extremely advanced weaponry, technology and so forth, if there's anyone that can do it, it's Gordon Freeman.
Or Adrian Shepard, but chances of that are low (even though Gabe himself said he wanted to bring Adrian back some time or another).
Fuck i hope Valve will make us do some encrypted shit like they did last year with portal 2, only now it's with episode 3. I remember i was at a lan party, and i couldn't move away from that thread even though my friends was yelling at me, trying to make me game with them.
Long story short: I lost friends for some alone time with a facepunch thread.

he couldnt even stand a chance against an army of the Soldiers in HL1 where Gman said its a battle that even gordon cant win

It's more like they'll keep coming, no matter what. There will be no stop to the Xen forces, even if Gordon manages to take down all the ones visible at the end. I'm assuming the different races and species of the Combine are not beings that have no end to their population.

Even the mighty Gordon is useless without weapons.
Even the mighty Gordon is useless without weapons.
No he isn't, tsk, remember in Half-Life 1, when he caused the resonance cascade?
He isn't uselesssss
He had a crowbar first, then found many weapons. I doubt he would find any weapon on a xen rock surrounded by alien grunts and controllers.
As for the resonance cascade...Yeah putting a cart in a beam, cant see how it helps him survive an alien onslaught.

Thats not what I meanttt
What I meant was it helped him START his survival from the alien onslaught
True but still, he would fall against those aliens when unarmed.
It was confirmed by Robin Walker at GDC yesterday that it is called Half Life 3, not Half-Life 2: Episode 3. It is going to be a full length title, not an episode.
