It was not an announcement. The project was addressed informally as Half Life 3 during a presentation on developer tactics and prerequisites for getting hired.

Episodic gaming is nothing but a joke, it was from the start. I'm glad they're abandoning that concept.

I hope they will still continue the series beyond the current story arc, though.

The funny part is that since it's apparently called Half life 3, that's the most info we've gotten about the game in a LONG time

If he actually said it, then it's great news - assuming it is still the same story, but just means it's a full length game like Portal 2.

I must agree, I fail to find any information about it on Google... This better not just be some rumor.

If its there, we need to look at GDC videoes.

Valve should use this opportunity and troll everyone by announcing there won't be a Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Ever. It gets people talking and when the cries of despair fade Valve can come back and announce the release date.

Someone at SPUF mailed Robin about it too. His reply: I did mention HL3 in a presentation about what kind of people we hire, but used it solely as a placeholder for a future valve product. Anyone got those EP3 concept images? I forgot what they looked like. Also, I want an escort mission or an infiltration mission. Perhaps either sneaky or full-blown action depending on a route you take. Go left, take sneaky quiet route (eventually leads to full-blown, just more quiet to get a certain thing first). Go right, take full-blown loud route (eventually finishes 'mission', just more loud to get a different thing first). Perhaps to destroy a new weapon the combine have?

I read somewhere, that during an interview with Valve I think in 2007, or 2008 that they claimed that the Episodic series was pretty much Half-Life 3, and Episode 3 was pretty much the end of the saga. I wouldn't be surprised though. The series has come a long way through out the years.
