I read somewhere, that during an interview with Valve I think in 2007, or 2008 that they claimed that the Episodic series was pretty much Half-Life 3, and Episode 3 was pretty much the end of the saga. I wouldn't be surprised though. The series has come a long way through out the years.
they never said that.
Valve are teasing us.
I think if there's a sequel to episode two, it's not gonna be in the artic or the borealis. I think it's gonna be very different, or Gordon will be in the artic in one part of that sequel.

Each of the previous episodes stuck to one general region. ETA: Woah, I leave for two days and come back with 17,000 fewer posts... all those moments [have been] lost in time, like tears... in rain.

I bet that the Borealis was just a Red Herring on Valve's part. The real Episode 3 will take place in a desert after your helicopter crashes or something. The illusion of the Borealis was created to give us fans something to argue about so they could work on the real story uninterupted.
no
It irritates me when people say that Half-Life 1 had better AI than it's sequel. This couldn't be further from the truth. Honestly, more health and faster running speed does not equal higher intelligence. [editline]6th March 2011[/editline] I personally found the Combine soldiers to be a much more memorable enemy than the marines, anyway.

Watch the whole thing ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZaY1jV96jI and you'll find out why it has been delayed so much. (I also believe that it will be Half-Life 3)

I'd like the most of the game to be in a snowy place, like Episode 2 was in a forest. I'm really sick of deserts and what not.
I'd like the most of the game to be in a snowy place, like Episode 2 was in a forest. I'm really sick of deserts and what not.
Desert? When were you in a desert during half-life 2?
Desert? When were you in a desert during half-life 2?
Not saying there was a desert section, I just really hate deserts.
episode 3 has never been delayed ffs
Really now? Half-Life 2 - Released on November 16, 2004 Half-Life 2: Episode One - Released on June 1, 2006 Half-Life 2: Episode Two - Released on October 10, 2007 Half-Life 2: Episode Three - TBA The point of the episodic series was so that fans wouldn't have to wait six years for the next game to come out, and the episodes were meant to be shorter so that they wouldn't take as long to make. Episode Two updated the Source engine heavily, and yet managed to be released one year after Episode One. Episode Three has technically been delayed, as it really should be out by now if they were to follow the episodic plan.

If the episodes weren't released in episodes but as a full game, it wouldn't be done yet. So it's on time. Also, Episode 3 hasn't even been dated yet, so it can't be delayed.

Seems like we've been waiting much, much longer than 3 years for Episode 3.
Ok, I have a better idea! The combine have located the Borealis, except they can't get in. The device that teleported the Borealis in the first place, who said it was shut off? I theorize that the ship is imbuned with some sort of field so that whenever anything gets too close it is teleported to a random location. This is why they haven't been able to get in and steal the technology yet. In Episode Three, you somehow shut down this field (possibly due to "residual teleportation energy" present in you and Alyx due to the slow teleport). This way, you get a fighting chance against the Combine because they wouldn't have had enough time to establish defenses inside of it. However, you still have to fight the defenses left by Aperture Science, such as the turrets seen in the blueprints of the Borealis in the Episode Two game files. Although, they will attack the Combine as well as you.
I have a lot of theories about Half Life... I should probably write them down at some point.
What i'm wondering is whether or not the HEV suit will have any new features in later installments. The sign-language system mentioned a few years back might help with advanced squad coordination or something, but aside from that, do you think the HEV could get any fancy upgrades? I know we have the Sprint function for running long distances, but what if the Long-Jump Module made a reapperance, so Gordon could make awesome jumps and whatnot. I'm not so sure about implementing togglable power-modes, though, since that seems a bit like Crysis. Being able to climb up obstacles like Alyx, however, would be awesome, adding a whole new dimension to how Gordon fights. Adding Physgun features to the Gravity Gun would be an interesting tweak, even if Garry's technically done it first.

There was usage of something very similar to it in the HL2 Beta footage/demos/whatever posted a while ago in this forum.

Garry must've modified it or did something similar during the olden days of Gmod development. But what I was talking about was implementing mechanics similar to the Physgun into the Gravity Gun in later Half-Life games. Also, here's a little theory I have concerning Half-Life and Portal. We all know that Portal is meant to tie-in with Half-Life somehow, evidenced by the presence of Aperture Science in Episode Two and the mention of Black Mesa in the original Portal. Perhaps in Portal 2, we will find hints to the Half-Life universe over the course of the campaigns, or maybe, just maybe, finding a certain amount of easter eggs would unlock some sort of secret video concerning events after Episode Two, a bit like in Assassin's Creed 2 where the player had to find secret "glyphs", solve the puzzles it presents, and once you've got all the files they form a complete video titled "The Truth". Another theory concerns the delay behind Episode 3. Perhaps at the end of Portal 2, the Gman appears and offers the player two options; either remain in the broken future and step out into the world beyond the facility, or enter His "employment" and travel into the past, in an attempt to avert a potential catastrophe concerning the Borealis. The latter ending would be the "canon" ending, and set up the stage for the next game in the Half-Life series, where the paths of Half-Life and Portal finally meet. Essentially, Portal 3 and Half-Life 2: Episode Three would be the same game, titled something like Half-Life: Convergence, similar to how the two paths of the Legacy of Kain games, Blood Omen (followed Kain's story) and Soul Reaver (followed Raziel's story), combined and yielded Legacy of Kain: Defiance. Anyways, in Half-Life: Convergence, there would be two "campaigns", the Lambda Campaign where you play as Gordon in a more combat-oriented adventure like the Half-Life games, and the Aperture Campaign where you play as Chell and follow a more puzzle-based route akin to Portal. Eventually Gordon and Chell meet face to face, and are forced to work together in an attempt to prevent the Borealis Incident, which would cause another Resonance Cascade, only this time it opens up to somewhere far, FAR worse than Xen or any Combine-controlled world, and whatever comes out would make everything end badly if not stopped. Co-op could also be an option, with the Lambda Co-op making Alyx playable alongside as a more agile character in comparison (how else does she climb so well?), and Aperture Co-op having Chell and another character, presumably a robot similar to Atlas and P-body from Portal 2 Co-op, with similar capabilities and maybe different ones to shake it up. In conclusion, Portal 2 might have Episode Three clues, Portal 3 and Episode Three might end up as the same game, possible massive boss fight to prevent a great cataclysm. All just theory, anyways.
it seems that most people here rather have a short game rather than a long one that can explain the story in more detail
Yeah, I'd prefer having HL3 instead of Episode 3 at this point. Or maybe both :v:
I'd prefer Half-Life 2: Episode 3.. but not the final episode, that they would launch Half-Life 3 for it. Damn, i will miss Half-Life.. ones of the best game that i ever played.
