The Combine have slow teleportation, who says that Aperture didn't royally fuck up with the Borealis and create a teleportation method so slow that it goes backwards? Or something like that. I still believe that Portal 2 will give at least SOME info on Episode 3.

Then he pushes her away and tries to reassemble his damaged AR2. But as he's doing that the Rebel stands up and attacks him while Alyx goes to borrow your crowbar. The Rebel is punched in the face and falls back, but Alyx hits him in the head with the crowbar. Now while he's stunned Alyx uses the crowbar to pry off his facemask, and after relieving the Combine Soldier's true face, shoves the crowbar into his forehead. He slowly drops to his knees, then to his side. Dead.
Then after Alyx helps you up, you go retrieve the crowbar from his face (causing blood to squirt out when you pick it up). The crowbar remains bloodstained for the rest of the game.[/QUOTE]

What DuCT said, IF Portal 2 takes place after the next HL anyway, then wouldn't it be assumed they would tell you how the events involving the Combine resolved?

It is possible, Cave could not be convinced that time was not flowing backwards, he seems like someone who would want to work on time-travel.
Chell could somehow send a message back to the Borealis at the time of HL1, which says what is going to happen soon (black mesa incident) so they try to escape to the future. They must have been in a hurry or desperate because part of the drydock disapears along with the ship, and there are some crates which are only half-loaded onto the Borealis.
It could go wrong, and all crew are killed but the ship disapears for a few years like the slow teleport, and ends up at a differant Aperture facility (the walls in EP2 are the same)

Seriously I mean if anything, Barney was MIA to the gamer's perspective in Episode Two, so I guess if you do the math of companionship versus game, it could be assumed he makes a companion comeback instead of Alyx, since she is now so emotionally compromised that she can't focus?
