Well, Half-life 1 was pretty unique having the ability to kill friends and smash headcrabs with your crowbar until they are a pile of guts. Hopefully in Half-life 3, there will be less rescuing people and more shotgun along with the ability to gib ragdolls.

I would actually like to have some time away from the companions, as they really get annoying when you need to walk back through a door or they do all of the work for you. It makes me feel un-important as Gordon Freeman!
I don't think gibbing would be as much rewarding in a more graphically advanced engine; hl1 got away with it because there wasn't much depth to the ragdolls and people dididnt complain and go "it didn't gib realistically hurr" because they didn't really expect real detail, but now we live in a gaming age whereby if a game doesn't have dynamic lighting or other crap, people get butthirt

Agreed. After Half-life 1, I tried to smack dead enemies with the crowbar and nothing happened. I was mad.
Half Life 2 looked too realistic. Gibs would have been too convincing and would have increased it's rating.

I think Alex's appearance and not to mention amazing voice acting fits Half-Life 2 perfectly, ive been playing since Half-Life 1 released and i have to admit it doesn't feel the same "Creepy" sort of feeling that Half-Life 1 gave, but its has its own awesome way of introducing characters with its deep story line.

I really really dont want to know anything about hl2 in portal, it would kinda of ruin it for me.
Portal 2 takes place 200 years after the first, and the first is sometime around hl1/hl2 time period. So pretty much if we know that everything is still fine and dandy with apenture (the combine havent found it yet) and that the borealis is still there, and Kliener said that he wants it destroyed. But if you visit the borealis in portal 2 you know that it was never destroyed in hl2 ep3 kinda ruining if for me.
