They will surely make HL3 instead.
If it becomes a HL3 it'll make more sense, since HL2/EP1/EP2 have been almos the same visually, making the third episode with the graphical capabilities of portal 2 won't be good concerning it's supposed to be an "episode".

right but "ep3" files were found in alien swarm. remember? so i think that they are already working under episode 3 instead of half life 3.

Yup. They're not going to release something that isn't at least mostly up to expectations. At this point nothing short of explaining the Universe will satisfy some fans, but for those of us who are realistic, I think that's who they're aiming for.
Honestly, they don't need to have another 24 hour game to make me happy. I'd be happy with another 5 hour game every year or so.
Part of me thinks they're going to end it in a very epic fashion that requires quite a bit of story to tell the story properly. The rest of me has no idea WTF is going on over in Valve HQ.
I just wish they'd say SOMETHING.

But still, as far I know they haven't even said something about it.
Only in portal 2, they did some stuff that had to do with half life.
So that makes me think that there will be a half life 3.
Besides, there are so much questions still:
- Who's Gman
- What happend to Barney
Etc

HL3 or HL2 Episode Three, what ever the title, I certainly take the Borealis dry dock in Portal 2 as a sure sign of a Half-Life sequel. My questions however, lie more on if Valve decided on playing as other characters instead of Gordon. Would it be so bad, since Barney was on a different train, I assume did not derail, that you play as him again, since he has his own story of events?
Valve said they're done with episodic content. Not trolling at all.
Also, may I ask what files were found?

They didn't say they were done, they said they were moving away from it. That's more than just semantics; if they were done, they'd say "We're done with episodic content." They didn't say that.
All that said, I'm really starting to give up hope on seeing HL3 or HL2:E3 anytime before 2015.

A few things in the Alien Swarm SDK with the prefix "ep3_blob_some action here" is all I remember.
And then apparently someone found a few advisor things in the Portal 2 gamefiles, or sdk, or something.
It's a bit hazy.

New advisor files or old ones? if old they're most likely left over files from Half Life 2 that ended up in P2 files for no apparent reason.

Not sure. It contained things like what the advisor does. Apparently it has some piercing attack, and some sort of WALLHAX or something.

old ones were simply attackleft and attackright iirc so that sounds like the more "bossy" fight files from ep2

Pretty much all the hype has gone for this for me. When (if) it actually has a release date, or some info/trailer is released then I'm sure the hype will skyrocket once more.
