Teacher: Now, who can count to three?
Valve: Ooh, I can! I'll get to it soon enough. Now. Three... Let's see.. One... Two...
Uh... One again? Two, then another Two. One, stack another Two on that. Uh... What* was the number again?
I hope that Valve implements a better modding system than Left 4 Dead's VPK's. I want full dynamic lights this time around also.
we have full dynamic lights they're just limited to one on at a time
it's literally one line of code they have to change

Why do I feel that's just a rumor? Besides, I think they'll have to. (If they plan to have world-shadows as well the the flashlight with projected textures). I remember doing the flashlight spawn command in Portal 2 (where it's just a static flashlight emitter) and it had no shadows. Heh.

It's not. I'm pretty sure it's just
Maxprojectedtextures=1

What?
What?
The flashlight in episode 2 is a projected texture. So if they want projected texture flashlights and enviromental projected textures they'll have to raise the limit.

Obviously.
I believe it will be half-life 3 because of how gabe said hes done with the episodic model and because it would explain the long wait time and why they haven't released anything yet.

What about people's OCD? They called it a "trilogy" too many times to back out now.

Doesn't mean they can't change there mind. Really if they said the episodic model is outdated and doesn't really work why would they continue it? They know no one would get angry if they announced hafl-life 3 instead of episode 3.

I would :saddowns:

If I hear this one more time...
If I hear this one more time...
what about three more times!
oh wait
But if you think about it they mby make a big game in Half life 2 ep3/Half life 3 instead to make "Half life 2 ep 3,ep4,ep5,ep6...." And Half life 2 ep 3 is gonna be the end chapter of Half life 2 and then they can begin on Half life 3.
Obviously.
But the code is only optimized for one projected texture at a time, in half life its with the flashlight, but since Portal 2 doesnt have a flashlight it can use it for a light instead, but only ONE light

HL2 is ep1, ep1 is ep2, ep2 is ep3.
Problem solved.

They could just slam them all into one game, but honestly I don't give a fuck if Valve releases a bigger game rather than a small game to please anally retentive people

That would be only calling it a non-episodic title when it would actually be an episodic title.
Valve has only said that they're moving toward shorter release cycles, and away from longer episodic releases, like what they've done with TF2. Nice, short patches.
Nowhere did they say that there would never be another Half-Life episode. In fact, Episode 3 is mentioned in the Episode 1 (or maybe it's 2) dev commentary. If they'd abandoned Ep3, that commentary node would likely be removed.
Don't read between the lines so much; Gabe doesn't add hidden meaning when he's interviewed. His words are at face value, and that's it.
This thread is so dead :(

Chances are they're working on HL3 already, while EP3 is still in production. They have multiple dev teams.
All the HL games are on sale today.
I'm optimistic.
the problem with it being half life 3 is I feel that each half life has a somewhat different story line, but the episodes stay to it's main games plot. like how blueshift and opposing force stayed with the half life story, and how the episodes stayed with the half life 2 story.
Jeo Op4 and BS were made by Gearbox, not Valve, and Valve were pretty unhappy at several points with the story arc of Op4

I didn't think they were unhappy just unsure themselves of whether they would be canon, especially about Race X in OpFor. I'd really like for Adrian Shepherd to have some addition to his story though or a part in a game. Seems like he has quite a bit of potential for further development.
I think it would be cool if VALVe will follow a rule that each HL full new game is the first of a new engine, takes Gordon to a new time and place in Earth's timeline possibly starting and ending with the Gman each time. Just my opinion, but this would be interesting. It would make Half-Life the long-term flagship VALVe game, with it being the introducer of each new engine they make. The episodes however I think should directly link to the previous and continue the story of the previous directly. So I think Episode 3 is up next, continuing the story of Ep2.
Valve should utilize trains in HL3.
I mean, they totally haven't used enough trains already (albeit EP1's beginning having no train entry, THEY HAVE TO MAKE UP FOR IT :argh:)

Like the train portion of HL1?
I think VALVe will come up with something COMPLETLEY different, however you can actually send in your subbmission to VALVe with your story just in my opinion i would take out the part were the boxes fall on top of them, you, or who ever.
Even put someone else in your position that you were in in Half Life: 2 Episode 2.
But i like your idea of the blood stained crowbar, new weapon's and animation's are the future of Half Life.

Nope, I want control over that ex-USSR chopper of theirs. If anyone actually took the time to look at it at the end of EP2, they would see that it's totally badass.
Like the train portion of HL1?
Oh god not that again. It was cool the first time but after that I wanted to shoot myself every time I saw it.
