Uhhhhhh.... I think Half life 3/ Episode 3 is going to be the most awesome game... hopefully.
If Valve takes too much longer I'm afraid it's going to end up like Duke Nukem Forever: It's going to be awesome, sure, like every Valve game is, but players' expectations of it have grown so outrageous that nothing Valve makes will live up to their standards, and it's only going to happen because people have a consistent mindset of "Time = Quality". [editline]14th July 2011[/editline] I hope it still feels like a Valve game when they're done with it. None of this regenerating health or unlockable weapons or ranking stuff.

Valve knows their audience, and will most likely keep the same style as all the other half life games (medkits, lots of weapons, strong and compelling story). Sure, it may not be up to everyone's expectations, but it won't be shit and will most likely become GOTY of that specific year it comes out.

That or they don't give a shit and are blasting ahead
BREAKING NEWS: This fake "trailer" just appeared on Machinima's channel
To be honest if Valve ever do a comic/movie/video series I hope it doesn't focus on Gordon. I would love to see more backstory on the 7 hour war, the oppression of the citizens and the gman's other targets, because I'm sure he has his hands in a lot more lives than just Gordon and Adrian's. Actually, Breen would fit into a comic pretty well since his voice actor is dead, allows for more story without having to hire someone new.
only kind of reference to Gordon I would like to see is a passing one, like a slight mention, or maybe a picture in the background. Unless you know the movie/comic/video focuses on what Kleiner and Eli did, then we could have direct references to him since they knew him.
Why does the fandom have such a raging obsession with the dishwater-dull and generic plot of "John Q. Citizen does his best Gordon Freeman impression as he tries to escape the Combine at City ##, along with his friends which we SWEAR are not at all like Alyx, Barney or Kleiner."? Why does the fandom avoid touching the main plot and characters as if they're radioactive? Have the countless mods, GMOD vids, and maps that use that exact plot above just not been enough yet? I'm not saying it's all a bad idea. A citizen-focused piece could be a good short film. As a feature-length one though? It would suck because it shows the weakness of the setting; When you remove Gordon Freeman, You remove the HEV Suit, the Gravity Gun, the Scientist Hero, the Theme of Control, and the Supporting Cast around him. And thus you remove the few things that keep the Half-Life 2 setting from being derided as "Michael Bay's 1984". And the setting deserves better than that. Putting the focus on the citizens puts the setting in direct competition with films that have already done this concept and did it better (Children of Men, Brazil, and Radford's adaptation of 1984 come to mind). And all this ultimately stems from Valve's treatment of Gordon's character. Aside from the short bit of text that was in the HL1 manual and whatever throwaway lines they have in the games, Gordon Freeman has no character whatsoever. Anything resembling a character or personality for him is because of YOU imposing one. That's a deliberate decision made by Valve and it works very well in the games...Too well if you ask me, because no matter if Valve decided to give him a character, or what actor played him, you won't accept it. Because in the end, no Gordon, not even Valve's, is your one.

Anyone could film themselves playing HL, dub their voices with it, pretend to be Freeman and have a great time in the process.
I just want Gabe to say something about Half-Life being continued. No matter how small the announcement, I will be happy to hear it.
I think there is a major difference of satisfaction with them just saying its being done, rather then showing something new to please everyone. I will not ask for a date, but I feel like Portal 2, was the last visual reference to Episode Three in a long shot. GlaDOS just so happens to not say anything about the Missing Experiment. Aperture had some reason to abandon those caves where the Borealis was, and considering that was back in the 60's or something. I guess its possible that either the Combine or someone else could of just taken the Borealis. I don't know if I want it to turn out that Aperture made mantis-men or Antlion mutations though, or that there is some other abomination on that ship, in addition to Portal tech, of course. I would not be surprised if Gman betrays Gordon for whatever the Combine have they want as well. City 17 is just one city, what ever happens in the Arctic, still does not change the fact of whatever the Combine are doing world-wide, unless Gordon defeated some boss Combine, maybe the Advisor that Dr Breen had to answer to. The one rebel in Episode Two mentions his plan on retiring his rebel days in Hawaii. I don't know if he is kidding or if he was told there are no aliens including Combine there or something, but it would be interesting if the Combine were out of control over there. They ended up in Europe instead of America for some reason. If Eli, Kleiner, Magnonson, Barney, and Gordon, not to mention Breen, just so happened to be relocated to a region so close together from their previous history, then the Combine have some problems. I would think they would of done a better job at separating them, before Gordon got there. I am interested in Valve's telling of the bigger Combine story, but maybe Gman's.
If they do make an Episode 3 ARG I hope it's more like the original Portal 2 announcement arg and less like the portal 2 release ARG.
Just done replaying HL2 + Episode one and Episode two. Ending of episode two still makes me sad.
Do people still believe that Episode 3 is coming? I think we can expect a full length Half Life game as next instead of Episode 3.
Do people still believe that Episode 3 is coming? I think we can expect a full length Half Life game as next instead of Episode 3.
I still believe whatever we get will bear the title of Episode 3, even if it's a 40 hour-long game.
I still believe whatever we get will bear the title of Episode 3, even if it's a 40 hour-long game.
Well, you always have to think like a company. A game with "Episode" in its title wouldn't sell that much alone (Yes, even if it has Half Life in the name, for example, not many would buy a Episode game for a console), but there is still a possibility that Episode 3 could come up in a gamepack, like the Orange Box.
Half-Life would have a pretty awesome ARG, just think about it, in the Half-Life timeline, the resonance cascade happened around this time. Just think of the ARG possibilities!
