RustySpannerz;31534102']As cool as it sounds, I get the idea that it's going backwards.
It would enable game developers to create environments like these(eventually) and let you walk in to them. Imagine being able to jump down the cliff and walk towards the citadel in the beginning of Episode 2.
Source doesn't like large open enviroments. Even the map max size has been increased in portal2. Ps. I want to photoshop Soviet red army to that picture :v:
unless you're using jets I don't see how this would be a good idea gameplay wise
No need to load a bunch of levels, the ability to make huge maps and thus longer gameplay with less hard disk space. It has to be sequential, though, no CoD style stuff where you suddenly teleport to the other end of the world. Hey, how hard did Gordon fall at the end of Episode Two, did he need to get a replacement pair? Would it be so bad if his glasses transitioned dark out in the sun light/snow reflection, then back to normal in doors? I think the glasses in the sketch cover up that because Gordon is at an angle, his nose may actually be bent. It looks straight towards the viewer, but if Gordon was going to position the rest of his face straight towards the screen, it looks like the ball on his nose would curve a lot more this way << I may be wrong.
unless you're using jets I don't see how this would be a good idea gameplay wise
One does not simply fly into Mordor. That was just kind of an example of what would be possible. Environments like that would be cool in open world RPG's/MMO's though.
Would it be so bad if his glasses transitioned dark out in the sun light/snow reflection, then back to normal in doors?
It would be a good excuse to not have annoying amounts of bloom. (I was honestly hoping DNF would have had a joke with the sunglasses and bloom in it, but I didn't hear one...)
I hope Valve's glasses excuse for the wait time will be that Half-Life 2 was remastered for 3-D screen capability, but that's only just a dream some people here won't admit they had though. Gabe and Gordon always seem to wear glasses, no contacts. I would not be surprised if Valve adds sunglasses for this series, since TF2's wearable items. At least if alyx wore sun glasses, her face would be covered, and emotion would be hidden. Otherwise I can't imagine they do teary eye animation.
HL2 does have 3D capability, but only if you have an Nvidia card.
I may be misteaken but if far away models appear as sprites, then where'd the shading go? or will it be the type where it's too far away to notice?
It's miles away type switching. Very very far distances so you won't notice detail losses, but at the same time it doesn't need to stop rendering the foliage causing constant pop ins and large empty areas as you go closer to that area.
I'm pretty sure that they can use such a technology for the chopper scene to render huge landscapes? If there is such a scene and still stick to the idea that you will make your way to borealis with the chopper...
Hey guys, I found Gordon. While he's waiting for Episode 3, he's taken up a job as a waiter.
If that were the real Gordon Freeman, he wouldn't be using his hands to hold that plate!
It is weapon_platter, so it has hands rigged to it. Primary throws a glass.

Because HL2:EP3 would be a Valve game, this pretty much guarantees it to have a TF2 pre-order tie in, right? So, what would they use? Headcrab hat is a given, but what if it was something like the Aperture Labs Hard Hat for Portal 2, which wasn't nearly as predictable?

I honestly don't see why that can't release an edition of the next game that includes those. Then another edition, with a different set of hands on collectibles instead. A Sierra released HL2 package a long time ago, had the headcrab and a HL2 shirt. Can't remember what else, someone I knew had it.
Crowbar, glasses, goatee
For the Soldier.
For the Soldier.
You know, I think Valve should get rid of all the other classes and give all their weapons to the soldier. Seems to be the way they're going anyway.
Crowbar, glasses, goatee
Off-Topic, The TF2 Emporium XL should make a crowbar for Engineer that replaces the Jag/Southern Hospitality. I'm sure they'll have a achievement In-game where If you get an achievement, you get an item in TF2, like the "Hat Trick" achievement in Alien Swarm.
You know, I think Valve should get rid of all the other classes and give all their weapons to the soldier. Seems to be the way they're going anyway.
yes one update determines that valve is giving away all their weapons to the soldier okay

Y'know, if they're gonna make Episode Three scary, they should bring back the Barnacles, make them even scarier. And speaking about bringing things back, Ichthyosaurs. Bring them back EN MASSE, and make them leap in and out of the water. And when the Ichthyosaurs are first introduced in Episode 3, have a G-Man Encounter that has him being held aloft by crows. Speaking of G-Man Encounters, perhaps there should be a scene where he's playing chess with Gordon, or some other eldritch abomination.

And there was generally only one per body of water because it was "oh crap oh crap where is it". Also, they would need a serious health nerf if there were more of them.
