Even if the l4d campaigns come out for l4d2 I'm still going to be playing l4d. I can't stand playing hunter in l4d2. Feels odd.

Feels odd.
They raped the lag optimization in l4d2 - people with lag get a huge advantage over people who don't sometimes - sliding through survivors as a pouncer is way more likely in l4d2.
What I hate about the porting of L4D1 maps to L4D2 is that the L4D1 maps don't really work that well with L4D2 Special infected since they weren't designed with L4D2 Special Infected in mind. Is there a way to disable L4D2 infected only? If there is then I'll gladly start playing L4D2 again.
Somebody might have a better solution, but I think the Mutation mod (the 117 mutation one designed by GaNi and authored by dani1341) has it. Pretty sure its the "classic campaign."
it's out
YAY! Finally! It's 536mb.
YAY! Finally! It's 536mb.
For fuck's sake. [editline]22nd March 2011[/editline] It's just the beta. http://www.l4d.com/blog/post.php?id=5150
for the lazy
Cold Stream Beta Release Today we are releasing the beta version of Cold Stream. Since we announced it, Matthew has been hard at work on the map and the initial release looks a little more polished than you may have expected. The reason for that is the difference between how we work on a campaign compared to modders. When we work on a campaign, we normally work in a rougher state without textures for a long period. Level design artists come in later and give the game its finished look with textures. Modders often texture early as they have to create the structures based on the available artwork. They don’t have a team of artists coming in after them. So don’t let the level of texturing fool you. The campaign is still in flux. We have activated the in-game bug reporter for L4D2. You can currently submit bugs on Valve maps including Cold Stream. This system will eventually be extended to work with community campaigns. So how can you help and give feedback on Cold Stream? If you see a bug report it. There are sure to be nav-mesh bugs, navigational issues, hit box problems, missing zombie ladders, art problems, etc. Remember it's a beta. For suggestions and feedback, first play the campaign and then post in the Cold Stream forum. The finale is one place in particular that we think is going to change pretty massively but please post all your feedback. If you want to follow the development on Cold Stream, make sure to subscribe to our Twitter account. Reminders: The beta is for PC/Mac only. The 360 version will be included in the full DLC. Cold Stream is part of an upcoming DLC for L4D2. No release date or pricing has been announced. Cold Stream does not replace featured campaigns, they will resume next month. Campaign Release Notes: If you have a problem with a spawn room, vote to restart that chapter. Everyone needs to be by the radio headset to start the finale map. There are bugs, this is a work in progress. Have fun.

for the lazy
I still have no desire to play this campaign, but the fact that it's practically supposed to be bug-ridden right now repulses me even more.
I still have no desire to play this campaign, but the fact that it's practically supposed to be bug-ridden right now repulses me even more.
The fact that it's by the guy who made "2 Evil Eyes" (stupid name) makes me want to just uninstall L4D2.
You guys haven't even tried it yet and your saying horrible stuff about it...
but the fact that it's practically supposed to be bug-ridden right now repulses me even more.
It's a BETA of course its gonna be buggy.
It's a BETA of course its gonna be buggy.
Nuh uh betas are always perfec
I MIGHT play this. Of course if it fucks up just once im done with it, i dont need bugs making me frustrated. Ill come back to it when its complete.
Afaik it was developed by a team of mappers and handed over to the 2EE Author to finish, so to my understanding he didn't do jack shit except for " polish " it and take credit for it. Still I'm gonna check it out to see if it's even worth all the hype.
I just played it and must say it's decent till you get into the last chapter. The last chapter feels boring since you're mostly in a river. Also tanks kept getting glitched.
I just beat it and there are a few things to note. Chapter 2 feels very repetitive. Walk down the river, theres a fire, get on the road, there's a fire, get on the river, repeat. The fire from the explosion of the barrels could of lasted longer and made you have to hold out. Chapter 3 has a part where you have to climb down the mast of a sailboat, but it doesn't tell you at all that's what you have to do. It may just be me being retarded, but I had to look around for a while before I found out you had to climb the sailboat. There is also a slow-mo scene shortly after this which seems unneeded. All it's meant to show is the big pile of cars and rubble falling from above, which is hard to miss. During the finale, it didn't feel like there was that much pressure on me to finish it. There is one tank on the way to the helicopter, but the rest just feels like the last of the campaign. The campaign it's self feels very bland. Too much of it seems to be just walking down the river. The aesthetics could use some improvement, but that's understandable because of it being a beta. There are also no closets to spawn in. A few comments from my friends: "Didn't we just go this way?" "I don't understand where we go" "I'm blind" "This way... I think" It's not that linear sometimes, and when it is it's just very repetitive.
It's hilariously bad.
Still waiting on a friend to get in my game so I can play it but according to what you guys are saying: Damn it Valve, why did you let this guys shit go official and be a part of the game. It's just giving him more undeserved attention and praise when it could be given to much more deserving mappers like the I Hate Mountains team. I still love this game but, jesus Valve come on.
One thing I really liked was the water moving down the stairs and being pushed by it (I almost fell off due to the water).
What were they thinking while making the finale? You can camp in the rescue helicopter in the versus mode, and wait for survivors to come, so you can jump and instant kill them. How the fuck you can escape from something like that, it's impossible. You can't kill anyone from the ground either. Same goes for the bridge event, what the fuck? Oh man, there's so many major design errors. At least it's not official.
how does valve even consider this guy a good mapper?
It's official, Valve wants to kill Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2. They're drowning TF2 in hats and they're murdering L4D2 with horrible DLC.
It's official, Valve wants to kill Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2. They're drowning TF2 in hats and they're murdering L4D2 with horrible DLC.
they're all seperate teams, valve is not a giant hivemind.
they're all seperate teams, valve is not a giant hivemind.
I realize that they're different teams but that doesn't change the fact that: A. They're both in the same company and people tend to think of a company as a single entity B. Both teams are killing/ruining their respective games C. They both share a boss who could easily go onto Google and search up the game to see the complaints that many fans have and order the teams to do better This is Valve, who is normally known for having incredible games and now some of their games are sucking, which isn't good. (You really think L4D2 is fun these days? This DLC is shit)
if you dont like the campaign don't play it, I'm not planning to. The point is that Valve isn't keeping the game content at the standard they set. if you don't like hats download a mod that removes all of them. That doesn't bring the TF2 that everyone loved back. It's not only hats, it's everything. Missing animations, balance issues, art style breaking, too many promos, clipping in weapons, etc. Valve has lots of shit they're too lazy to fix.
TF2 non-sense hats and shitty promos really sucks but TF2 team actually fix bugs and they add innovative stuff to the game at least. L4D2 team on the otherside, sucks a fat dick at supporting their game. Seriuosly, there's loads of glitch on multiple maps like the one at No Mercy apartment ledge wich is there since L4D1 and they just don't give a shit about it.
Well that campaign was a joke just like 2EE. Blocky architecture bad optimization, in fact fuck it I can't be assed to sit here and bitch about it. Valve get your heads out of your asses this guy can't make a quality campaign, he can make a working one but it's still not good.
