I hope GMod has a huge source 2 update and it REALLY fucking goes wild with how much more it can do
Me too, I was worried I wouldn't have enough money to afford a new PC by the time Source 2 is public, I cannot fucking wait for this, the hype train is starting now
Making your own editor extensions
Would be nice, though what I'd really like to see is an entirely streamlined 3DS Max / Blender / whatever -> Source process, without touching anything like .qc files.
That, and stable compilers (if we still need those).
Oh yeah, and less limits. Make the player's computer the limiting thing, not prehistoric artificial map limits.
i hope they'll add model scaling
left4dead2_source2? Are they gonna port L4D2 to the new engine as kind of a tech demo type deal?
i hope they'll add model scaling
and in game terrain editing and even wood and other things bending and breaking like it naturally should
rather than you know, the outdatedbeyondfuck premodeled giblets.

I hope so

So this was leaked by Cboat who seems to be a 50% hit and miss with rumors. Was backtracking his posts and some of his rumors were true while others were false.
Time to sit back and wait for Valve to say anything about this. :v:

it could be fake but it'd be harder to fake, at least
To be honest from what I see this doesn't look much of a change from say the CSGO or Dota 2 version of Source graphically, IF this turns out to be true and not another hoax, then I think they focused on renewing the level editor to be less crappy and more modern also fixing or adding other neat stuff and improvements like it's mentioned in the last slide. I might be wrong though since it's just a couple of tiny compressed images.
Made a better comparison.
How come your screenshot of the source 2 presentation has got less jpeg artifacts than the original one cboat posted?
http://team-s4s.de/screenshots/source2.png[/img] comparison of both the original screenshot and the one from the comparison.
Edit:
Wow, I can't effin' read. Sorry guys. FP is loading so slowly.
left4dead2_source2? Are they gonna port L4D2 to the new engine as kind of a tech demo type deal?
Maybe they did it in the same vein of making HL:S, to show that it is easy to port over legacy content and then improve upon it
is it just me or does valve think that adding lots of foliage to everything makes it look modern and good?
maybe it's because in both portal and the left 4 dead worlds the places you are in are completely deserted by human life and weeds and shit start to overgrow everywhere

We still don't know where this came from, do we? I have yet to see a valid source on it.
(inb4 source engine jokes)
almost seems too good to be true.
Half life 3 has been harsh on my optimism thanks to the internet.

I really have no idea how engines work, my bad.
cs2? Counter-Strike 2?
Could be the codename for CS:GO. One whole letter shorter.

Oh so im not the only one noticing the latency
Could be the codename for CS:GO. One whole letter shorter.
doubtful. Everything else is using their normal abbreviations. If it was CS:GO it would be named csgo.
(Copying my observational post from hl general discussion.)
The leaves on the tree suck. Look at that one branch/leaf at the top left, I do hope that's not source 2. Also those broken wood piles on the bottom right look kind of fake/bad.
Source 2 Leaf
Source 1 Leaf
Broken Wood
The broken wood piles look like something made in blender and shopped in. The shading is all off when it meets the ground. That leaf looks exactly like the l4d2 leaves rendered in source 1.
My two cents
If it builds on the old Source engine's code (which I think is the most likely scenario given the generally hereditary nature of most game engines) then for something as simple and tentative as a work-in-progress and (I assume) internally presented engine demonstration it's not surprising that they'd use older assets and/or some Photoshop smoke and mirrors. It's not for us to look at and go 'wow so that's what the new engine looks like'; it's for people within Valve to look at and go 'so that's where we are now' or 'so that's what we're working towards'.
I don't care if it's not beautiful. Source engine is amazing to me because they got everything right: movement, maps, mods, etc
I don't care if it's not beautiful. Source engine is amazing to me because they got everything right: movement, maps, mods, etc
Well, really the point of having a new engine is to make it more beautiful. I doubt they'll mess with movement and mods and stuff too badly, considering that's what valve stands for.
[editline]27th January 2014[/editline]
And from the looks of it their trying to make all the modding and mapping more intuitive.

posted this in another thread but im also going to post this here. The lighting looks great but im sort of iffy about the vegetation. I guess its because the content was ported from lfd2, but still.

I'm hoping vegetation in Source 2 is a lot better than previous games. Example - some vegetation in Half-Life 2 is a flat texture that always faces your way no matter what angle you're viewing it from.
Still, hope these leaks are the real deal. Not getting hyped up until I see a huge banner on the Steam store saying either Half-Life 3 or Left 4 Dead 3 available for pre-order.

Pretty sure detail sprites are used in almost all Source games.

Well lets be honest HL2 is a decade old this year.
I may be not underwhelmed by those pictures but I still think that Source 2 genuinely looks nice.
Honestly, engine flexibility is more important to me than photorealism and lighting problems you have to squint at to even notice.
Knowing Valve, they probably have this in mind which is great.
So a user on valvetime.net named ukuuku posts this:
