How about real time map editing just like Unreal or CryEngine
How about real time map editing just like Unreal or CryEngine
Personally I think realtime editing isn't very good, but something like a button to instantly put the map ingame with no compile to test would be nice.
How about real time map editing just like Unreal or CryEngine
They've done that.
Don't ask how I know, I just do.
It's hard to believe this is true when it looks like something you could make in the CS:GO SDK.
No.
you can't light models like that in source
Furthermore, the content looks really close to what the concept artists had in mind; so I doubt someone did THAT much research to get it that spot on.
They saw an unfinished game and judged it on that?
That's kind of stupid.
You should read the reviews for the early access games on steam.
expect alot of HD remakes when source 2 comes out
Black Mesa HD Remix. Coming 2042. Just before the Half-Life 2 remake "City 17" comes out in 2075.
I doubt Valve would do any proper remakes. They might to direct ports with the new shaders if the basic geometry formats are similar enough but I don't see them wasting time on doing anything beyond a Half-Life: Source type thing

They better not, it'll put HL2E out of business as a mod.
Unless they hire us, which would be awesome too.
The most Pictures here are form the year 2011, in my opinions if valve do somehting for a new engine nobody will leak acutal Pictures.
So now, the person who claims they leaked the image is apologizing on NeoGAF:
Sigh... I'm not CBOAT.
First I have to say, that I feel terrible and that giving screenshots to CBOAT was a stupid idea.
I'm in contact with Valve whom I explained everything and sincerely apologized for what I've done.
I have to live with every consequence out of this.
But now, things got personal yesterday and during the night.
I've got not so nice emails and apart from already having pissed off Valve, the idea that I might be CBOAT apparently drew Microsoft people to me, which, honestly, makes me afraid.
That is why I felt the need to make this thread.
So again: I'm not CBOAT and I don't know who he is. (He even writes PMs in that obfuscated way)
People should know (especially MisterX), that I was and still am one of the biggest Xbox One supporters on NeoGaf.
I was even banned multiple times because of this. I only was CBOATs source for this particular leak which doesn't have anything to do with that silly MS vs. Sony console war.
I PMed him a dropbox link to that screenshot and he uploaded it directly from that link.
The source of the upload is saved by that image hoster and one user here found that connection which basically outed me as CBOATs source.
How people can spin the theory that I'm a mod and CBOAT in union out of this, still goes over my head.
To answer the open question on why I redacted older posts:
After one user found the connection between me and CBOAT I deleted all references to my Dropbox account simply to protect my identity.
Every user here can edit his/her own posts even years after they were made.
So please - make that witch hunt stop :(
P.S. Sorry to all the mods for causing so much trouble and workload.
and that thread didn't last long.
It's a shame that it takes this level of 'scandal' just to get some damn CONTENT out of Valve in the first place. 2011? Geez, amazed it took a leak just for anyone to see this in the first place.
That being said, if those truly are 2011-era visuals even with old and ported content, then I'm impressed.
fuck off valve
nobody is going to wait 7 years everytime you release something relevant
expect alot of HD remakes when source 2 comes out
Half-Life: Source 2
I can't wait.
the best thing to come out of this incident is

After reading the thread, it seems that he did the same errors as the hacker who got the HL2 leak (he also gave to a friend the files, and then those appeared on internet).
Well, now it happened twice, VALVe. Have you finally learnt that your fans want constant news from you?
Have you finally learnt that your fans want constant news from you?
You'd probably regret this after the upteenth post of "Oh yeah, by the way, we just scrapped half/all the levels/script and pushed the game back a year to take a mulligan and do it better. Our bad, dawgs!". It always happens.
(Copying my observational post from hl general discussion.)
The leaves on the tree suck. Look at that one branch/leaf at the top left, I do hope that's not source 2. Also those broken wood piles on the bottom right look kind of fake/bad.
Source 2 Leaf
Source 1 Leaf
Broken Wood
The broken wood piles look like something made in blender and shopped in. The shading is all off when it meets the ground. That leaf looks exactly like the l4d2 leaves rendered in source 1.
My two cents
They're reusing assets from Source 1 as placeholders!? Call the police!
Half-Life: Source 2

Half-Life 2: Source 2 also included.

You're acting like valve owes you a game. They owe you nothing.

when you end an episode on a cliffhanger
when you leave subtle trails and hints in .fgd or directories referencing a new game
when doug lombardi tells you to "hang in there"
yeah they do.
They owe me a fucking game though. Beat them in a bowling match six years ago and they never paid the fuck up.

Valve has released a game almost every year since 1998. Only in 2002 and arguably 2010 were the only years they didn't release a game. (2010 only Alien Swarm was released)

left4dead and portal might be good, they are not relevant to what initally attracted a huge chunk of the fanbase.
do not picture me as a greedy idiot whiny kid. I am saying all of this as a diehard fan following the company for 13 years, ever grateful for all the fun the games provide. But they're forgetting half-life and it's irritating.
alot of us have had enough time to get a life, a career and even be parents during the time lapse between ep2 and hl3. it's just wrong.
alot of us have had enough time to get a life, a career and even be parents during the time lapse between ep2 and hl3. it's just wrong.
Exactly why I grew out of waiting for the game.
It'll be great when its released, but it really doesn't bother me on any level that it still isn't. It could come out in 2020 for all I care.
when you leave subtle trails and hints in .fgd or directories referencing a new game
You make that sound like it's dastardly evil marketing, as if they're deliberately sprinkling out tidbits to hype people up.
Er, no. It just means that because they share codebases, stuff from things they're working on are going to crop up in stuff that's shipping. Stop dumpster-diving through Valve's metaphorical rubbish, and stop hyping yourselves up for no good reason.
We all want there to be a HL3. I want George RR Martin to finish Winds of Winter because I really want to know if [censored] survived the last book. Am I pissed off that he spends time instead doing publicity appearances and writing episodes for Game of Thrones? No, because that'd be silly. It'll be awesome whenever it's out. Same with HL3.
My entire computer gaming life I've been waiting to see what Valve comes up with for HL3, and I'd much rather continue waiting so they can truly create a new generation game, that has all the tools and abilities to launch a new generation of mods rather than some rushed game to fill a perceived void. I'd rather take a new game every decade than the series pushing out a new game a year for four years and then the series dieing or getting stale.
I cant imagine a single person choosing not to play Hl3 because 'they should have come out with it sooner', so it's better to wait and get something amazing than something average now.

It's been almost 7 years and you people are still talking about rushing.
7 FUCKING YEARS.
I'd rather see HL3 have a 10 year leap in technology than see a Half-Life 3 that was made with technology from 2010.
I'd interject how I'm still patiently waiting, but it's not quite a fair comparison. When I first learned of Valve as a gaming company, fans were already waiting. When I played Half Life 2 for the first time, ignoring most of the plot and just figuring out which props I could use in Portal maps, fans had already been waiting 2 and a half years. By the time I finished Episode 2 for the first time legitimately, fans had been waiting more than 3 years. I am but the next generation of a long line of Waiters, and the legacy I inherited is waiting. So I can wait. But it's been a long time. Do we still remember what we're waiting for?
It's been almost 7 years and you people are still talking about rushing.
7 FUCKING YEARS.
I seriously doubt you've been waiting for 7 years. I have. Modern gamers have no patience, they expect and feel obligated to be able to play alpha builds and see quick turnovers. I'm sure the devs do not want HL3 to be a flash in the pan, they want it to be another HL2, defining a whole generation of PC gaming.
Seven years is a long time, if they have been working on it the whole time, but they have not been doing that, they have been working indirectly. They understand the significance of the HL series and have been waiting till the technology has been caught up to where they feel it needs to be to properly realize their vision. Would you have liked Avatar to have been made in 1997, James Cameron waited for the technology for his vision and that's a good example of doing it right.
