When I was playing L4D2 beta I presumed that viewmodel animations are just placeholders. I was horribly wrong and disappointed.
I must be one of the few people who doesn't notice this kind of thing. Same when people talk about CS:GO's animations and I never batted an eyelid at them.

Laziness on the developers' part, aswell as how you have to mod the games now is the whole reason I've quit trying to bother with the new games. I miss when you could just shove some models and materials in their respective folders and everything worked.
I'll get the next Half-Life for sure, but that's because that series is expected to have free-floaty movement and the same weapons, maybe adding one if any so there's no chance they could wreck those animations, right?

Seriously, fuck you.
Well as someone that lives in New Orleans, I might be a bit biased for L4D2. I would like to say though that they did do some research in getting the city levels right - looking into the small details and feel of the maps and environment models, they clearly went down here and attempted to capture the environment.
And it's not like Valve didn't increase the value of L4D2, they eventually integrated the entire first game and built in additional campaigns at no extra cost. Say what you want about it at launch, but L4D2 today is essentially both games. You can also make the argument for the company's support of the game by integrating mutations to increase replayability.
I'm not saying it was their finest hour in terms of games released, but it's not like they just launched and forgot about it like some cash cow title.

Yeah at this point they might as well add workshop support for all of their games to make it easier. Also that viewmodel, I seriously never notice this kind of stuff. Once it's pointed out I'll never unsee it though :v:

It seems like in the more recent years that Valve is more focused on future projects than fixing some of the problems that they've created. Some of these are inexcusable.
Maybe it's just Valve's internal structure biting them in the ass.
Nobody (or very few) want to work on already released games. They've made there money (they are a business after all) and most employees probably feel more useful working on new projects.
Personally, if nobody told me I had too, I wouldn't take time to fix all these problems.

Boo-hoo, I don't like how it sounds: get over it. It's my opinion.

Oh don't worry, I know they broke everything with the OB update and never went back to fix it.
I'm just saying, unless they recompile the models for some dumb reason, they shouldn't break.

What the fuck is an opinion and why do you have it.
Boo-hoo, I don't like how it sounds: get over it. It's my opinion.
Are we seriously doing this?
You're not the only one entitled to an opinion. Surely we're not drawing lines in the sand now. Obviously I'm entitled to an opinion on your opinion. My opinion is that the l4d2 soundtrack is a pretty dead on throwback to the old blues + Jazz pre-motown sound that fucking revolutionized music forever. It's a sound that's been around in my life and especially in my family since the start, and it's a huge part of my childhood and who I am. The only reason I've ever heard someone who rejects the sound is by people who either "hate old stuff" or "its all country music it suuxx." It's pretty fucking ignorant shit. Also, especially angering for someone in my position. Obviously this is just in my experience, therefore my knee jerk reaction was based on an assumption that your opinion was fueled by the same ignorance.
Feel free to enlighten me, for in retrospect I've realized that I snapped too early and you probably have a perfectly good reason. Educated opinions are the best and everyone should strive to have one, unless we want to continue this kind of shit.
Also yes Medevila that horde drum loop is the shit.
All this music talk is making me wonder. I wonder if the audio system(s) in Source 2 is getting any revamp. The dynamic music in l4d and Portal 2 seem like the start of something that could expand into a major driving feature in the future.
Think what you want, but I really liked humorous atmosphere of L4D2 over L4D1. It just fits better for fun multiplayer game.

IIRC the music system in Portal 2 really only happened because Mike Morasky was playing around with stuff, and one of the mappers came up and said 'Hey, that's really cool, do more of that'.
As far as I know their sound system is fairly simplistic in it's terms of being authored, it's simply rules and sounds that are set up to play according to those rules.
Erik and Chet had a presentation that talked about how they did their dynamic voice response system, I don't remember where I saw it, but I imagine their sound system took a very similar approach they did to actually handling the interaction.
In regards to the CS:GO viewmodels, in all fairness, the animations were alot nicer than CS:S. CS:S animations were so horrid that I had to skin everything.

They were technically horrible (The animators had no idea how guns worked) but they flowed very well methinks.
That's one thing some community animations do really well, animations that show proficient firearm usage.
old blues + Jazz pre-motown sound
Right there, specifically this. It's something about the instruments and the way they're played themselves. It never seemed to fit, to me, with L4D after I'd played the first one extensively and had all the nice, original, more-urban sounding in comparison music. Believe me, I love old music. I crank up the radio in Fallout, I play Beethoven in band on a regular basis, etc. This just isn't my style of music, though.

I still hope for it, although I don't think it'll ever happen :saddowns:
I liked the dark maps and the feel of the guns better.
Really that's about it for me.
I suppose the feel of the game engine with the shitty jumping and all that also had somthing to do with it but all-in-all it was good.

I think you mean lack of structure - the only thing that has STRUCTURE is Valve's snack room. Just watch them go on and on about it...

Now I'm just imagining Jason being run over by Jimmy Gibss Jr's car in slow motion as the survivors escape the mall.

7,000 calories in one cookie? How?
Personally, my favorite part was when you were going through the mall full of zombies looking for Jason.
I meant HARD, GAH
I honestly didn't give two shits about the quality of textures in L4D2, I also didn't give two shits about the lack of proper storyline. The entertainment factor alone drew me in. I don't take it, or its LOREEEE (which everyone seems to be overly obsessive about) with any sense of seriousness. It's just casual fun with friends.
Also, I really hope Source 2 has some sort of ragmorph system, like the Avalanche2 engine (JC2) or Creation Engine (Skyrim). You know, where a massive force of impact on the player turns them into a ragdoll for a brief duration, and when they've landed and settled the ragdoll sort of tweens back into a standing upright position? I know that may not be a popular idea among us Source gamers, as we hate loosing control of our games, but I think it's necessary in some situations.

He's exaggerating. Someone did the math and apparently it's physically impossible unless it's made of uranium or something

That is, if you don't make it bigger.
