Wait, what? No reset? So once you find a set amount of cards that's it?
I'm not sure if I like that feature where it shows you which of your friends have the cards you're missing. I already had 2 people ask me for my cards in the last 15 minutes.

There has to be a reset though, if cards are being crafted away to complete sets nobody would be able to get any more cards after some time and the entire feature would just die out.

Seems so.
You only get a number equal to half of the cards in each set. Guess you have to trade for the rest.

so it's literally impossible for everyone to get a full set? that seems pretty stupid
Got my csgo badge to level 4

This makes no sense. What happens when everyone crafts their cards and nobody has cards anymore? Are they really encouraging making alt accounts to get cards?

You have to buy/sell something in the market.
There has to be a reset though, if cards are being crafted away to complete sets nobody would be able to get any more cards after some time and the entire feature would just die out.
The cards say series 1. Perhaps series will just die out and they will add new series. This would keep prices of cards from dropping to pennies so valve gets more cash from their sales.
You have to buy/sell something in the market.
it says I need 22 tasks to go to level 2, I have done 22 tasks

It says 22 of 26 right there on the picture.
how :|
bought from the market, probably.
You want to collect Trading Cards but don't want to interact with other people? :v:
In all seriousness it makes sense, there will be people out there with the cards you're missing and you have cards that others are missing. It's just now the cards are going to eventually become rare. And to be honest people will only want to trade off their duplicates if they want to complete the set.
so it's literally impossible for everyone to get a full set? that seems pretty stupid
Trading?
You want to collect Trading Cards but don't want to interact with other people? :v:
Yeah, Valve is trying to get some more community (and of course monetization) stuff going here by getting people to trade/sell/buy the cards. They are indeed called trading cards for a reason, instead of "cards that fall into your lap while you basically do nothing".
Trading?
With this system it's literally impossible for everyone to get a full set.
With this system it's literally impossible for everyone to get a full set.
Why exactly?
This system also promotes making/using alts to obtain more cards. 2 of the 5 or so games on the list are free to play.

To get cards in free to play games, you have to spend money in them at least once.
There's still no official statement that there is no drop reset, so I wouldn't be too worried. Give it a week or so and I'm sure everything will be clear as crystal.
Why exactly?
Every individual person can only ring out half of a set through the game itself, and that's if they're even lucky enough to get that. If someone else has half a set, then only 1 of those two people can have a full set. This is with the luckiest probability too. All existing cards come into existence through this method. The amount of existing completed sets are less than the people looking for them, and it will always be like that due to the card limits.

Even in Dota 2?
For TF2 you could've just had alts that played TF2 before it went F2P.
Why exactly?
The cards get destroyed when you craft them and you can't get any more through the system without trading with someone who hasen't crafted and destroyed their cards or making a whole new account.

There are/will be tons of people that get cards and put them up for trading/market and have no interest in actually collecting them at all. Not to mention that this will not be the only way to get cards ever.
We will definitely look into adding more rules for how cards are dropped in the future, but there are a few problems with in-game achievements that prevented us from using them right now.
So way before the card market "runs out" of cards, there will be new ways to get them. Albeit through server-side achievements or other methods.

Having premium TF2 == having spent money in/for TF2. Dota 2 requires spending of money before you get cards.
