Incoming rant, but this update is a visual atrocity. Valve has been mostly smart with Steam updates the last few years, but good God, isn't Steam bloated enough already? This is rediculously tacky. I don't want my friends whom I care about sorted by an arbitrary and meaningless levelling system that only indicates how much of their time and/or money they're willing to waste grinding in TF2 and abusing the community functions. Not everyone should need a 4k monitor to properly see a page with the same information that could easily fit into a space a quarter of the size. On profiles, you used to be able to see gameplay time and history of 5 recent games with concise and recognizable icons, the player join date (we totally need the X years of service badge because clearly, nobody knows how to count), and the "Steam Rating" which gave you a quick idea of how much the user was ingame on average while still being completely arbitrary and not affecting anything. It was all off to the side and not trying to be the main focus of the user profile, taking only roughly 300x500 pixels. Now? GIANT icons, oversized fonts, unused space, etc. The entire focus of the page is no longer on the user themselves, just GAMEPLAY STATS (3 at a time), ACHIEVEMENTS, CARDS, SHINY ICONS, yada yada. The profiles have affectly amputated the user from the very thing that's supposed to be focused around.. what's that? THE USER. This is a terrible design trend that's spreading EVERYWHERE. It'll probably only shift when all people can see on their 60-inch tv's is two letters at a time or half of a stupidly high-res glossy image/button. (Oh, sorry; a TWO-COLOR image thanks to the new oversimplified Windows 8 "Metro" style thats starting to trend that could easily be made in MS Paint and has no artistic merit whatsoever.) Again, sorry for the rant (I almost never do this), but I'm really sick of seeing people eat up this garbage whenever it becomes available rather than actual content. We didn't need the "Steam Badges" then, and nobody asked for trading cards now. We already had a community in TF2 built on collecting and trading stuff like this for the people that do enjoy it and/or don't realize how valuable their money is. It baffles me how people think that a freaking 230x265 .png image is worth FIFTY DOLLARS and HOURS of grinding in a game. I REALLY hope most of this stuff gets fixed before it goes out of beta.
The people working on the visual design for steam are beyond terrible and this has been known for a very long time. The Big Picture button and the portion of the interface it occupies are unnecessarily huge and aesthetically revolting.
I do agree that I liked the little side bar and that they should at least have given an option in that. But I do really like the cards/background/showcase. and whilst the steam client can give me some problem, this is web based. They have to give choice IMO. Just like Windows 8 basically have with desktop and Apps(just because start menu is gone does not mean desktop mode is gone).
I hope Borderlands 2 and Killing Floor will get their cards too. Vault symbol and Dosh badges. WANT.
There was a Borderlands 2 badge briefly on the update page. It was replaced by the DOTA2 badge. ...It's Claptrap. :v:
-snip- im dumb

I'd say that's taking it a tad too far.
Hello, We have several profile updates today based on feedback: Only 3 recent games will be shown on the profile page, down from 6. The Recent Game Activity section on the profile will show total playtime for the last 2 weeks. You can now choose a badge to feature from the Edit Profile page Both Featured Badge and Profile Background can now be unset from the Edit Profile page Additionally, the following coupons were not working correctly and have been fixed: Portal 2 Frozen Synapse Tales of Monkey Island (this coupon still incorrectly says "Episode 1", but applies to the whole pack)
is it possible to opt out of the steam trading card beta? the new profiles are obtrusive/ugly, and the trading cards are useless to me
is it possible to opt out of the steam trading card beta? the new profiles are obtrusive/ugly, and the trading cards are useless to me
no turning back it's like the steam community update from a while back

I know this must have been asked a hundred times but... Once i drop 4 cards(cap) will i ever drop any card again from that game? Or will i drop more once i trade those. Also, i bought every item in Portal 2 store and i still get only 4 cards cap :(
no
Also, i bought every item in Portal 2 store and i still get only 4 cards cap :(
why
why
Probably because he likes Portal 2 Edit: Regarding your in-game purchases: iirc they only said that you could increase drops for f2p games, which would not include P2

This thing is fucked up :( I hope they change it. It's just too hard.
It sucks for people that loves certain games and spends alot of time in these certain games I have 1000+ hours in Dota, and I only have one level 1 badge that I had to sell my other game cards to get my dota 2 cards to get the badge, yet someone with 0.5 hours in Dota can get all the way up to level 5 badges and a foil badge too, theres not enough reward for the players that have actually spent countless hours in the games
This thing is fucked up :( I hope they change it. It's just too hard.
I wouldn't call spending 5€ on the market to buy a complete set hard.
Anytime I think of steam trading cards, this video comes to mind.
The TF2 card price spike begins. They went up ten cents in the last day. [editline]23rd May 2013[/editline] I went ahead and bought another set, got myself to level ten and got the first showcase. Now I wait and hope they add new ways to get cards and level up that doesn't cost 9 dollars per card.
Is getting into this automatic or invite only?
Is getting into this automatic or invite only?
I believe you have to eirther get an invite from a friend or join the steam trading card beta group and wait for a "join wave." Might have changed since it first started though.
-snip, wrong thread-
So the best way to go about things is this: 1. Search Steam Card Group for people playing dota 2. Add each person who has no badges and 4 dota 2 cards 2. Offer person "Rare" backround that is actually worth 1.40 on the store for their 4 cards. 3. Accept trade 4. Buy the backround back for 1.50 and sell all 4 dota 2 cards for 1 dollar a pop.
I can only see everything getting cheaper as soon as it jumps out of beta, what with everyone undercutting everyone on the market. Hell, its already happening. Probably gonna be around 2 bux for a full deck, though iunno how the whole spending 9 more to get an extra drop will influence the market.

There is ALOT of people who play f2p games that are excellent without paying like TF2 and DOTa 2. They won't get a 4 free card drops so the price will stay limited. And the other games all have to be paid for so in Holidays slaes you will see a drop in the pric.es but not that much since people don't buy games just for these cards I think

I really hope we see some form of drop cap reset.
I really hope we see some form of drop cap reset.
Well, as some user has posted before, they do say 'Series 1' that implies that there might be more series and that badges might become like (level 1, series 1?) or just expand.
