Wow, I'm really surprised to see you again, AZA, though you probably don't know who I am, or remember me even if you knew my old name back then. I admit that SS13 probably would have died and rotted away if you didn't leak it, but it's probably not something that I would have done. Anyway, I hope Centurion works out for you.

Throw me your old key and try me. I remember quite a few of the old roleplayers from back in the day.

Used to go by YamiYugi124, but you probably don't remember me because I've always been kind of the quiet, lurker type.

The team tells me that they're working hard on more "technical" videos detailing how some part of the engine works and proper gameplay videos for the kickstarter so that if you're very skeptical, you can wait until then before backing the project.
They're creating more assets for those as we speak. We've moved very recently from exclusively working on the engine to actually creating assets for it that could remotely be called "usable".
Yeah that's what the Kickstarter needs. You won't get "pre-alpha" into people's head, ever, so don't even try. Cook up some assets and make a video with cool features, even if they are all scripted and in no-way in the game yet. That's how almost every KS gets money.
Once that's in place, go for exposure on gaming websites and forums.
^
Exactly.
Many people think that kickstarter = pre-ordering a product that is in alpha/beta state to play it.
Sucks that the game isn't catching on as much as it should, really hope it gets some attention.
For those who don't completely loathe Reddit, and can tolerate some temporary exposure to it, we've got an Ask Me Anything going on at: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1hpapw/we_are_the_development_team_for_centration_a/

We've got a stream running in about 5 minutes at: http://www.twitch.tv/centration
It's unwatchable for me. I can only see a couple of seconds before it will freeze and then suddenly it will start again.. Only to freeze again, etc.
I might not have good enough internet for watching 1080p streams, but there's no other options with this one..
Damn I missed it. Oh well watching the recording. So is it still once every other week or has that changed now?

They said next stream will be in two weeks, near the end of the Kickstarter campaign and that they will have some things they have been working on and haven't shown yet.
Well, they canceled the kickstarter due to bad performance, it will be finished, just not as fast as it would have with the kickstarter.
On another note this is pretty much how an ideal round is going to happen according to the devs.

Shouldn't have dissed SS13
Shouldn't have dissed SS13
If every SS13 player pledges 1000£ they'd have reached about 12000£. They need to forget the SS13 community and ditch it (for the Kickstarter anyway), what they did wrong was not show enough so only someone that had played SS13 really understood the depth of the mechanics.
Basically forget SS13, show explosions, gore and guns (because this is what catches people's attention), and most importantly explain the mechanics to people that don't even know what SS13 is (that's where the real funding comes from, the large masses of people that pledge small to medium amounts).

Hello, congrats on being greenlit.
I was wondering when this game approximately will be playable in alpha/beta and how much it will cost.
I really like this concept of this game but could never get into ss13 due to its horrible interface and lag.

are you suggesting 12 people play ss13
[editline]26th July 2013[/editline]
My biggest worry is that this wont retain the same kind of modularity that ss13 has. I know it's not meant to be a ss13 clone, but that's one of the main reasons why it's such a good game. 3D is such a harder medium to put an idea like this into

at the pace it's been going, it seems like it will take quite a while yet before it's playable.

Noms mentioned that the deadline for the first playable (though barebones) Alpha release should be around September.

Wait, who are you congratulating? I don't think the devs are reading this.

Some of them come around here once in a while, actually.
If it makes you guys feel better, I'm technically part of the dev team.
Is there a limit of map sizes, or is it free range?

At the moment, the only restriction is the server's computational power and bandwidth.
Considering how many variables will constantly be tracted dynamically, the bigger the station the higher the bandwidth and CPU the server will need to provide.

Would not be so sure that that is the only concern, out of experience, Unity can crash if you go go to big and no matter how powerful your PC is it would still crash. However i think you can not even reach such size or want it. :v:
Well well well, if you wanted to see those gray walls on that space station like thing, maybe we will be able to in a couple of weeks! The pre-alpha stress test they are aiming for 30th September 2013 - 01:00 AM GMT+2 will be available on steam around that time hopefully.
Looks awesome, but that pitch video v2 is fucking terribly edited. The audio levels get so high to the point where you can't hear what he says.
We're launching our first build on the 30th of September. It's going to be very barebones at first but there will be frequent updates from that point on, and there will be no NDA of any kind.
Pre-Alpha - Important Information
Hello everyone! As you are all well aware by now, we are going to be allowing access to a basic pre-alpha build of Centration next month (September).
It's important that you are all aware of some information before we open the floodgates, to minimise complaints and issues during the pre-alpha.
Pre-Alpha!
This is PRE-Alpha, meaning that the version we're allowing access to is not the alpha build, it is a stripped-down slightly-more-stable version of the build our dev-team primarily work on.
How to Access?
There is a limit of 700 slots in the Pre-Alpha. About 400 of these slots have already been taken at the time of writing. To gain access, simply go to your profile at http://www.centration.co/social/profile#steam and you can click the 'Retrieve Steam Key' button. If there is one available, it will then show on your page. You can then redeem this key via Steam and it will unlock once we open the pre-alpha. If you experience any issues retrieving your key, please attempt to refresh the page, use an alternative browser, allow javascript or wait a few moments before trying again before contacting support. (Because they'll just tell you to do the same thing. ;-) )
Graphics
The presentation and graphics will be very rough around the edges. We'll be making improvements to textures and GUI elements at a later point, we're working on integrating a new UI system for an update in the future that will make things... very sexy.
Lack of Features
There will be no primary gameplay features. Combat and health is very basic, there is no science functionality yet, modes are very basic. The feature-set will be very small in the early builds but as we develop and make features more stable, we'll be releasing them the updates.
Fortnightly Updates
We will be releasing an update every two weeks, to fix bugs, add new features and content, or for any tweaks. It is important to note that while we are going to update regularly, this does not mean content will literally flow out of every orifice. Our primary concern is to to create a stable foundation on which to build Centration.
Official Servers Only
Due to instability and other internal reasons we will only be allowing officially hosted servers during the pre-alpha. Angry Engineers Entertainment will host two servers for players with a limit of 32 players each. This count may be increased, and we may consider allowing extra servers to open later on during the test.
There will be an EU server and a NA server. These servers will be hopefully operational on a 24/7 basis, however we may choose to take them down for extended periods of time for updates and testing - we do not guarantee 24/7 coverage.
Bug-Reporting
We have set up a feedback tracker for bug-reports. We encourage everyone who participates in the pre-alpha to register on our feedback tracker over at http://feedback.centration.co/ and report any issues and bugs you find with the pre-alpha.
I would like to make it clear that the feedback tracker is only for the GAME only, not for the website or any type of support.
Data Wipes
Quite regularly during the pre-alpha, your characters will be wiped, the data removed and everything reset. We're not doing it to annoy you, it's just required when we change things that require the data to be reset. We apologise in advance for the inconveniences.
Roleplay!
A lot of the early gameplay will flow directly from you players - we encourage you to roleplay and communicate on our teamspeak 3 server. The address: ts.centration.co
Non-Disclosure
We are not going to be enforcing an non-disclosure agreement on the closed-alpha. Take screenshots, record or stream to your hearts content.
Disclaimers
The availability of the pre-alpha is dependant on stability and remains solely our responsibility and our decision as to whether or not it is launched in September.
We reserve the right to remove someone's access to the pre-alpha at any time, we reserve the right to close the pre-alpha at any time, and we do not under any circumstances guarantee a stable, playable experience.
The Pre-Alpha is a stress and infrastructure test.
