Yeah, it helps to think about it as halving the amount of materials needed/money spent rather than doubling the exp. SC takes about 20 minutes per game but if you do well you can more or less get one tool per game.
Random advice:
-Magic is a free action; runes are easy as shit to get and they only come in two types, elemental (air/fire/water/earth) and catalytic (everything else). If you have high magic you can literally just ice barrage spawncamp the other team to death. Hell, just go ahead and spam whatever spell you want, nobody ever uses melee or ranged. By the same merit, make some anti-magic armor.
-Having 20/40/60/80 in Fishing, Hunter, Mining and/or Woodcutting means you can get better clays.
-Having 20/40/60/80 in Construction, Cooking, Crafting, Fletching, Herblore, Runecrafting, Smithing, and/or Summoning means you can use better clays.
-The most useful skill is probably Runecrafting. High Runecrafting means you can use better clays to get more runes per clay.
-If have good Magic, again, go around shoving ice spells up people's asses.
-If not, collect a few level 1 clays and make yourself a familiar pouch and scrolls. After that, make as many runes of one type as you can, deposit them in the familiar, and when a mage inevitably starts lobbing magic shit at you use the scroll to send the familiar's inventory to your base. Repeat and try to mass as many points as you can.
-Probably the most fun thing to do is thieving. If the enemy team has a mage with shitty thieving level, you can steal his runes. Since there's only two rune types, you basically just removed his ability to cast magic. It's hilarious, but you probably need a good thieving level to do it (55-70 average imo). Besides that you can steal clay from people for kicks.

Your F2P spaces only get filled up with F2P items. Just remove some and you'll have space.
