get two items that look similar in inventory, one dirt cheap, one expensive as hell.
note them both.
advertise that you're selling the expensive one for a certain price, usually a bit lower than what it's worth. when somebody trades you, put up your item. as soon as they put up the money, close out the window and say the price you want and re trade them. when they retrade you, wait about 5 seconds. it usually takes that long for them to put their money up. at the end of those five seconds, put up your cheapo item and hit accept. if you're lucky, they won't notice.
honestly, scamming is a really shitty way of making money, though.
