First X-COM and now this, tactical games /= FPS games, why are devs forgetting this.

X-COM looks good. So does this. Shut up about the games nowadays not being the uber-complex nintendo tough rage generators they were, just play those if you're going to be so pissy about it.
but i liked them because they were uber-complex nintendo tough
the same criticism to this applies as it does to X-COM, it's not really related in any way
The complexity was what made these games, dumbing them down like that is like selling a re-written version of Romeo and Juliet: "Man and Woman love each other, family disapproves, both commit suicide. The End"

X-Com looks kind of shit, actually. The engine is apparently really wonky, the animations look pretty bad, and the game literally has nothing to do with the original X-Com games, it's just a title slapped on in an attempt to appeal to the "old school" demographic. Could turn out great, but first impressions are not good for a lot of people.
Honestly, I won't go raging on about this whole thing just yet, but I won't be surprised if it turns out to be mediocre. Although I still understand the reasoning behind making it an FPS, because RTS games are a lot more niche than FPS games nowadays, and EA rarely even glances at anything that won't guarantee at least a decent profit.

What are you defending here, really?
Plus did you see the X-COM gameplay feed? it's broken as hell, and they know it.
So far i see nothing but minuses, it doesn't help Richard Morgan is writing the script.
The guy wrote Crysis 2 for christs sake.
Woah.
They're remaking X-Com?
HOW COME I DIDN'T HEAR OF THIS.
They're nothing alike.
I'm pretty sure they share augmentations, trench coats and conspiracies.
Except the conspiracies would be taken from a sort of MJ12 or Illuminati point of view.
But gameplay wise it's more different, Syndicate was more RTS.
The overall environment was different too.
I don't see why they couldn't have stuck with something more class based or less super agent like. From vague memories of playing Syndicate I remember you started out pretty lowly and you worked your way for upgrades.
I reckon this would be fine on fps if it depended on player skill and co-op with character customisation.
But seeing screenshots of this and some details, yeah they're trying to appeal to the general fps genre.
Woah.

Holy fuck just tried the demo for this and it is HELLA good. The demo is for 4 player coop by the way!
Wait how?
[editline]1st February 2012[/editline]
There isn't a demo up on origin.
[editline]1st February 2012[/editline]
Oh... nevermind
From what I see, they should have made the title a spinoff title, and the people wouldnt be so enraged. After seeing the reactions of the new XCOM Enemy Unknown title, the strategy tactic hybrid title which really pays tribute to its ancestor, it would be wise to make the same move and make a new Syndicate game in the RTS/RTT genre.
But it is EA... it wont happen. All they see is "ACTIVISION MAKES MILLIONS WITH MEDIOCRE FPS REHASHES OF ONE GAME, WE WANT LODS OF EMONE TOO"
I'm sad the game got refused classification in Australia.
Thankfully god invented importation, so it's cool. Importing is cheaper than buying first hand here anyway.
Fully upgraded the pistol, damn it's fun to use.
Can someone post the direct link to the demo on PC?
What demo?
[editline]2nd February 2012[/editline]
Unless you got some supercomputer with a PS3 or 360 emulator there ain't no demo for PC.

Ah, this I did not know. Thanks for clearing it up.
I thought they said there was gonna be a PC demo too?
No they said that there wasn't gonna be a PC demo.
At least this Syndicate is somewhat related to the old Syndicate, unlike that other game.
Yeah I gotta say it feels an amazingly lot like syndicate '93, just from another perspective.

Remember playing it on the ps1, i'm getting a totally different vibe from this project though
doesn't look dark and gritty.
Even though that's an old dos game, i can tell it's supossed to be kinda steam punkish
the art style for the reboot looks generic as fuck like everything else on the market today.
plus we get a brown haired guy with stubble main character, yawn.
That's how it is today, pick a license and shit on it.
Fuck it wasn't even that long ago that I was still playing this game.
The last mission was a bitch until I finally asked for my mate to help me out and tell me the secrets of this game. I'm honestly going to miss the art style, it was gritty as fuck.
Also hacking grenades midair all day erry day.
Enemy could've thrown rocks and it wouldn't have made a difference.
I'm wondering, will enemies be able to breach the player or the player's equipment?
Also I like the art style. Its a lot more colorful than most recent games. But then again I never played the original so I don't have the same type of nostalgia for the older one.
It's amazing how people can't breach Gabrek's armor. The massive "Immune" should help most people realize.
Fuck... It's written by the same guy who did crysis 2, it's going to have a shit story, and it doesn't
I'm wondering, will enemies be able to breach the player or the player's equipment?
Yeah you'll be facing enemy agents in other missions.
Fuck... It's written by the same guy who did crysis 2, it's going to have a shit story, and it doesn't
No you see there was nothing wrong with the story of crysis 2, only the fact that he was brought on the team.
Story is excellent, but it might as well have been a completely different game, fit in with the already established story from c1/warhead.
Wasn't the worst part about crysis 2 by far. (linearness, multiplayer, no sprint without killing the suit battery, nanosuit 2.0 weaker than 1.0)
For PC this is only for Origin, right?
So long as they keep the whole "you being the bad guy" thing I won't be that opposed to this.
If they pull a fucking "you learn the error of your ways" twist like Haze did then I won't be happy. The whole point of Syndicate is you're just murdering people to widen your corporate profit margin.
