Everything is in the game, so logically we can build anything we want.
Yes we can
However, we'll need new textures to do it.
No we don't.
Unless you want this thread to build the same castles, halls, and spires until someone gets bored and locks it, we're going to need to change style frequently, and to do that, we'll need to use different textures.
There's a thing called "design", and it is something that is used to change how things look.
You don't need new textures, Minecraft provides plenty of different blocks that can all be combined and used in unique ways to create new themes and looks for buildings. You are incompetent if you are unable to design something to look like what you want it to look like unless you're using a specific texture pack that changes every block in the game to look like the thing you want it to look like.
We'd be limiting our capability to do new and original builds greatly, and if we can't build said new and original things, I just don't see the point in this thread going on.
Only people lacking creativity will be limited.
There's lots of texture packs that looks similar to the games', but less shit. I used PureBD as an example because it in my opinion looks pretty good, but we can decide on a different, less edited version.
Those are perfectly alright. However I absolutely refuse to join a project that forces us to download a texture pack that causes drastic changes to what the blocks are supposed to represent, such as a steampunk texture pack.
words words words
Alright, so tell me how we'd build a cyberpunk-looking city that heavily uses metals other than iron and gold?
Wools wouldn't work well, since, well, they're wools, diamond is too colorful and wouldn't fit in even if it were darker, sandstone/sand just wouldn't fit at all, Nether materials are too red and if used in any notable quality would make the map seem too dull, and there's little other blocks I can think of.
It's not that we're uncreative; we're too creative, and we need specialist tools. In fact, if we ever needed to build something that looked dark without using the same blocks over and over, we would be unable to build it, as that would require downloading a darker pack.
Again, it's limitations that we don't have to deal with.

Stop being so fucking dramatic, no one's forcing you to shit. I suggest something, and you act like I'm stuffing it down your throat. I'm proposing something like Dokucraft or whatever, much better for a medieval theme, and it's without making Minecraft look like Battlestar Galactica. I mean jaysis I'm not fucking Hitler.

How about we skip the whole steampunk thing until we've done all other things?
It's a project that would be very lackluster even with a texture pack, because Minecraft does not have a lot of the objects steampunk revolve around such as gears, steam, cogs, gears, bolts, etc and if you're going to be doing a steampunk theme then it would be best alongside a bunch of mods to expand the possibillities.
For now, let's use normal fucking texture packs that normal people can recognice and feel astonished by rather than uncreative shit by some twat that can't create things unless it has a very specific color.

I'm pretty sure we're talking a medieval theme here, not cyberpunk.

I've said countless times that I'm perfectly alright with Dokucraft, it's the other guy I'm pissed at for forcing me to use specific texture packs.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. And we really need someone to just make the fucking decisions.
by the by, it's a european theme. think of rooftop run from sonic unleashed and generations, that's where i got the idea. it's a combination of all things from europe, so you've got a huge big ben styled clock tower, you've got itallian styled buildings, and french styled cathedrals and rooftops.
you should whitelist me, i can help with the theme idea.

Oh right, so I'll just use BRIGHT IN YOUR FUCKING FACE BANANA YELLOW when I want dark yellow, standing right the fuck out in the middle of the build when it's meant to look subdued and metallic!
So I guess I'll make it look how it's supposed to look with a different texture, but then oh no someone will throw a shit-fit that they have to take five minutes and use the patcher. How inconsiderate of me.
Edit:
And I did say we should wait a bit after our first build to do something steampunky. We don't have to do it straight away, or even at all. It's just that I think it's silly to limit ourselves like this.
Now, what do people propose as a voice chat program?

Then let us just save the discussion for when we have actually built something.
How about this.
European style is so far the most widely agreed on theme.
This style can be achieved with the default texture pack, but if you want to use another texture pack that's alright.
Just STOP bitching about it.
If you have other ideas, suggest them, just don't talk about texture packs.
It's fucking ridiculous.
They're using a texture pack that still looks very similar to the original one. They're not using a texture pack that changes a bunch of the original stuff to look like stuff that isn't in the game.
Uh, Dokucraft, um, doesn't look... anything... like...

I could be using a texture pack that made wood pink and metal orange, then it would be highly inconsiderate of you to not download the same texture pack so you could see just how awesome my things really look with my design.

Uh... okay. I'd do that, as I'm assured it looks good. What looks awesome is subjective, but I don't think you'd stop and say that it's finished when even you didn't think it looked good, would you?
Fucking stop already. Now, voice chat program?
Fucking stop already. Now, voice chat program?
Depends how many people can use Skype at once. I don't have a mic of any sort myself, everyone else set?

It's all a matter of how you use the things you're provided with.

No you godamn wouldnt. Shut the fuck up, you've done nothing but fill the thread with you pertaining to a shitty idea and arguing pointlessly with someone who actually wants to help.
if you want to continue this pointless arguement, take it to pms. dont shit up this thread.
I'd argue you all should choose the leadership first. Because, obviously, you're already arguing, which is bad.
Fucking stop already. Now, voice chat program?
We need one. I already picked out a great city location in the server. Its on a river that empties into an ocean. Only problem is it has to be terraformed a bit since its on a desert plain.
I'd argue you all should choose the leadership first. Because, obviously, you're already arguing, which is bad.
Inacio setup the server so hes in charge.
Depends how many people can use Skype at once. I don't have a mic of any sort myself, everyone else set?
There's always mumble and vent and such.
Just need to find one we can all use.

Sorry for taking this too far, I'm a stubborn mule and will almost never admit defeat in an argument :v:
Sorry for taking this too far, I'm a stubborn mule and will almost never admit defeat in an argument :v:
Same. I think we should both probably take a bit of a cool down for a minute.

so shut the fuck up already, we dont care about your opinions on textures.
also, i have a feeling that many people here are younger. if you're gonna do voices, take that into mind, make sure people who're on the voice chat program (whichever one you choose) doesnt mind hearing young voices as long as they're actually pertaining to the project and not just being stupid.

So shut the fuck up, then.
Christ, people need to work on their flaws..
Inacio setup the server so hes in charge.
I have nothing against Inacio, but that is a poor way to decide. Better to not rush this thing like everyone is, and instead take it slow, and decide these things over the course of days instead of hours.
I'm 20, with an occasionally raspy voice. I also make up arguments faster in writing, so I don't do them as much vocally.

We'll just need a few moderators to threaten them a few times and ban them if necessary.
Or mute them.

nothings wrong with a young voice! if they actually want to help, whats the problem?
Okay, lets make a list of people signing up for leadership. The person should be experienced with building and organizing stuff, and be ready to answer questions from people. Then we'll put a poll up and let people choose.
