Inacios back so I started whitelisting, PM me. Not589 you're on the list.
Should we set up some voice chat or has that been done?
Tried to see if Inacio had one we could use but internet went down again.

these'll help when constructing the actual buildings.
(i think they're huge, so i didnt tag em.)
Gah, how could I miss this thread. Signing up hopefully.
Old cities typically had different styles, and we need to be consistent and stick with one.
When people are talking about the 'European' style, I am imagining either the Anno 1404 Venice style housing...

(Skip to 1:00 to see what I mean)
The set out of them is not that nice, but the actual style of the housing is lovely. I'm sure (if people agree) we could take inspiration from Renaissance era Italy in some of our choices of design.
Making a venetian type place would be awesome.

Lets just use the Anno1404 wiki for style guides

What is whitelisting and do I just join the IP and I will be aloud to help build?
I'd love to help out with this, but I really suck at making things look good in Minecraft, so I'd probably serve better as a drone.
Some pictures from today.
I suggest a steampunk style, add voxelsniper, worldedit, and a world generator and we've got ourselves set for success.
That has been tried before. It failed because people lost interest, but it was actually very close to being done.

Made a quick little map and totally bullshitted the names (They're certainly not final)
Yes, this is all to scale, I mapped the area in MC, took a screenshot of the map, and traced it.

That docks section looks damn sexy.
Alright, I'm not a leader or anything but I feel like this needs clarifying.
The poor district is poor as shit. They do not have sprawling houses, they will most likely have multiple beds per house and have everything around them be extremely cramped. This is why I'm planting things in all of the open spaces in poor people land. It makes it appear smaller, and also serves an imaginary purpose. Also space is extremely expensive. Houses are on top of houses. Some houses jut out and expand randomly. Some even connect. There are also few lights. We all did very well with the current (tiny) poor district block. It's dense, has quite a few houses, and looks like it was unplanned. That is great. However, right next to it are clean and cool large buildings that just happen to be made of wood. Some of these are alright, like the inn and the thing to the left of the poor block. Market is also fine because it adheres to the time period. This (sorry not589, it needs to be somewhere else) is not fine

It looks NOTHING like everything else besides the wood exterior. We can't have a good project if things like this are everywhere. I understand that the builders are trying to help, but building things like that isn't getting us anywhere.
I realize I'm not exactly in a position to talk down on others like this, but this project is important to me and I don't want it to be ruined by our great staff being too lenient on inappropriate buildings.
Was the whitelisting cut off at a certain point today, or did I give a misspelled IC name, as I can't seem to join. D:
IC: DanielRatherman
Try joining now Dan.
Can we use my building as a crappy motel?
How about you guys divide up into groups of two or three people each and each of you build your own village. They could be connected, and then you'd have an awesome nation!

Nah, we're sticking with the 'one large city' idea. It looks like it will work really well

Update on city

So far, it would seem the way we've built the city means you can change the style of the city itself with different textures. Which is good, because that means it won't look fugly if you don't use DokuCraft Dark.
I think it looks best with Dark, though. Reminds me of Dementia from Oblivion.
need any more drones?
Also the server might be empty for now.

Sure. Just take in the way the buildings are constructed before you start, though.
I'll be on in an hour or two
I'll have to point out that glass was a very expensive resource, so don't use it in the poor end of time. It simply looks out of place.
fences as windows work well.
tbh If we ever did a facepunch city we shouldn't focus on making just 1 style, rather a minecraft style (think ultrafuturistic combined with only medival materials) and also maybe adding a facepunch style
