well fuck
Just started a new embark, within the first 5 minutes my fisherman got his head bitten by an aligator and bled to death
[editline]20th December 2011[/editline]
oh great so it turns out they stopped the caravan or whatever right ontop of a frozen river
all my shit is now at the bottom of that fucking river.
great.
yeah, fuck you too embark spot
Dwarven intelligence at its finest.
Terrifying Glaciers are fun.
Blizzard Men are like, the friendliest bunch of people I ever met.
Anyone have anything like justdigitout for 31.25? digging trough all this damp and warm stone is annoying as shit.
You can disable that in the ini mate, IIRC.
DF folder / data / init / announcements.txt
Find "DIG_CANCEL_DAMP" and swap with [DIG_CANCEL_DAMP:A_D:D_D]
Then swap "DIG_CANCEL_WARM" with [DIG_CANCEL_WARM:A_D:D_D]
(basically, remove the P:R or whatever it is from the brackets)
Yeah but i still have to reassaing the tiles i wanna dig and i have to dig a single line tunnel thats quite long. so that dosent help really.
My cat's LOVE playing with the ice wolves.
Especially when the wolves disembowel them with their teeth. Like holy shit goddamn, they just trot out there, not a goddamn care in the world.
Fuck.
I've spent 8 hours of today reading Gemclod.
Oh well, not like I have anything worthwhile to do with my time...
Right now I'm really wishing you had the ability to fill in murky pools or put soil over "[insert rock here] pebble" layers on the surface. We can collect clay and sand, why not different types of soil? it could take 7 units to fill one tile of murky pool and 1 unit to cover over a surface rock layer.
In my last fortress, I didn't get ambushes until ~80 dwarves and I got my first siege at 173 dwarves.
This fort? First ambush at 45 dwarves and sieges at 72. I wish steel didn't take so long to make, I have 8 dwarves waiting for more armor sets...
Decided to charge down a cave as adventurer, holy fucking shit so many Kobolds. I've killed 50 so far, and they just keep coming.
Wow, Dungeons of Dredmore has so many DF references, it's crazy.
Even down to alcohol called "Sewer Brew" and various objects being described in DF fashion "it is encrusted with ... and menaces with. ..."
It's an amazing game, though DF takes the cake for "best PC game that I know of atm"
Also, devlog
Toady One I stopped the town's citizens from giving kobolds and beasts in the dungeons dignified burials when they happened to die from old age. Fixed a tomb entrance issue. Did a bunch of tweaks with undead naming in world gen, and next up I'll be extending that throughout the game, so that any interaction syndrome can provide a name like "vampire", "mummy", etc. (or whatever you want for mods). Then dungeon door materials and some bandit/criminal historical event logging, the dungeon segmentation stuff, and that'll be it for dungeon issues.
Poor cutebolds.

Yeah turns out I already had DoD, so I decided it was time to play it. Took about 5 sec to spot the first reference. Gonna play on hardest with permadeath on the first time I ever touch the game, like a true dorf.
So yeah my Dorfs are spamming my annoucnment log whit stockpiling canceled item inaccsesible(i think it might be something in a pool thats frozen over right now but i have to wait) i checked everything in the fort and all the rooms so anyone got a idea perhaps?
Found out whats causing it. SOCKS. and other owned dorf items. since they keep stealing it from eachother im forbiddding every clothing item stored in the fort.
EDIT: that didint work god dammit dorfs.
Okay, so about a year ago a flying, feathered sauropod arrived in my caves. Caves are completely blocked off, so I ignored him.
Apparently, they were not blocked off, and it made its way into my forge area. Knocked a furnace operator into the magma, poisoned four military dwarves... I think they're okay, one got up after being in bed for like a day. Still don't know how it got in.
Suddenly, poisonous extract everywhere, causing minor spleen pains, followed by total paralysis and death.
I did the door materials and event logging and naming issues I mentioned. Now we'll see how long it takes to get through dividing up the critters and treasures and things down below. I had given myself two days for that in order to stay on track for a date in mid-January, but this, along with map maintenance and optimization and sponsorship critters, is one of the places where I see some potential slippage, and it also aligns with the holiday festivities. In any case, that's the current project. There are criminals, kobolds, subterranean animal peoples and beasts underground, in addition to tombs with disturbable critters, and they will all need their space to the point that they won't see each other and get all negative every time you are shopping up above.
Mid-January, eh? This is gonna rock.
Haven't played this game in a while. Last thing I remember doing is messing around with the files and embarking on human towns and seeing what cool things I got. I disabled the thing that stopped towns from being generated mountains, and disabled terrain smoothing in generation, and got some cool towns sitting on cliffsides on huge stilts, and a human jeep that had a small mountain on top of it. I can't remember how, I think it had something to do with the religion spheres or something, but I embarked on a human town that had a 7 story temple made of platinum. I also had above ground fort in the desert with a pyramid theme.
I kind of wish military was easier to manage, and combat was more like a turn-based strategy game like Fire Emblem, because I think the military management was what turned me off from the game after that big update.
loop path fail: <same square> dwarf,116,97,134 -> 118,94,134: Id #1463:Path Goal Seek Station:Station Mill Building at 163,103,134

EDIT:

Exucse some of the mess been so hectic in the fort.
EDIT:
`Mr.Scorpio' Litastidor, baroness cancels Store Item in Stockpile: Item inaccessible.
`Halpcat' Asolmelbil, Miner cancels Store Item in Stockpile: Item inaccessible.
`Spinner' Kosh貧ul, Cook cancels Store Item in Stockpile: Item inaccessible.
:suicide:
my annocunment log is only full of that
I've gotten a start with situating the critters down in the dungeons in proper groupings. They appear in separate locations, they don't overcrowd and they avoid disturbable coffins, but I still need to get leaders placed with their subordinate critters, and I need to handle entity items and inundated sewers that think they can hold more critters than they actually can. But the traditional dinner is being held at a nontraditional time, and now is lutefisk.
even more devlog-y-ness
`Spinner' Kosh貧ul, Cook cancels Store Item in Stockpile: Item inaccessible.
Is the kanji really in there? Apparently it means "poor" or "impoverished".
The simple act of expanding my smelting area so I could have more magma smelters resulted in two forgotten beasts swimming through the magma, killing three dwarves and a human diplomat.
Pretty sure the humans are going to go to war with me now...

Maybe they came through the underground water source I dug...

How did that happen? And did the surgeon amputate them?

your fort is doomed
Just thought of one thing: It would be pretty fucking awesome if we had an MP mode where one player gives orders, and the rest of the players control one dwarf each in the fortress.
Imagine the fun when all dwarfs are different players. It's would be a free for all, with dorfs getting shanked in the corridors, babies getting mutilated, rivalries, riots (or just un-organized bloodbaths) and the dorfs would be even dumber than they are right now.
Of course it would also be a nightmare to create, and realistically speaking it will never happen.
Oh god, would be like SS13 with dorfs, with an added guy directing you to do things.
(I've never actually got round to playing SS13, I've just watched LPs)
Have we ever done a Boatmurdered/Gemclod/etc-esque pass-it-on game? That would be fun.

There was, but it ended up in people taking ages for their turn, not being available or just disappearing when it was they were supposed to pass on the save.
[editline]24th December 2011[/editline]
If we have another one I'm up for it, as long as it's before the 10th of January.
Guys, there have been like millions of those. None of them ended well, so we call it "The Facepunch Curse" where everything we try to do collaboratively ends up failing horribly. And I don't mean in a hilarious failing way, I mean someone forgets their turn or shit like that.
