We've had... maybe six of them since 2008. I started one of them. All end with someone forgetting.

One of them: http://www.mkv25.net/dfma/map-3807-steelyell
Most of the people from back then aren't even in this thread anymore. Where's Rotinaj, Mad skillz11, Resto, that guy who forgot... :(
[editline]24th December 2011[/editline]
Woo, human siege.
[editline]24th December 2011[/editline]
And a goblin siege at the same time. Wow.

This is the best way to kill animals. Throw them in a pit with a troll.

a troll army
So decide to abandon a fort and start a new one. By abandon I mean dig into hell.
The one fucking person I wanted to die first ends up being the last one alive and now he is caged while the demons run around wreaking my fort.

oh wow
Today was the sort of day where I thought things were working out. Then I test-embarked in a different town, and bandit leaders were embedded in the walls, dungeon rooms came up through the street and into the center of stores, the sewers were completely inaccessible, amphibian men were hanging out in a farm house and a gigantic frozen river of ice raised up from the ground and partitioned the town except where the bridges cut tunnels through it. I fixed all of those problems to get back where I thought I was when I started.
That sounds fucking hilarious.
I'd almost love to experience some of the bugs he meets when testing his work.

That sounds.
FUCKING AWESOME

A Song of Ice and Fire mod?
I think I am finally beginning to understand this game.
Though in my most recent fortress, due to my own poor decision making, my one of my miners was killed in a cave-in, and the only other miner suffocated shortly afterwards, all not more than few minutes after embark, so now someone else has to learn to mine.
also, the wagon seems to be on a frozen river, though I got most of the supplies out before it thawed.
That's not poor decision making.
Mining under your meeting area accidently and killing the entire fortress, THAT is bad decision making.
I make bad decisions.

How about completely forgetting about the existence of pressure?
I love DFHack's tile painting feature.
Took me about an hour to figure out how to make it actually work but I can finally re-do rooms.
Isn't there an adamantine joke that goes "don't eat too much cotton candy or you'll get cavities"?
So, decided to kill my fortress. Dropped everyone from a bridge.
A few dwarves made it back inside unscathed, so I thought I might be able to keep them alive and continue the fortress... but then a hammerlord in full steel armor went berserk inside the fortress.
There were no survivors.

Is LazyNewb's pack any good for a new player Will all those tools be any useful to me?
I usually (always) prefer ASCII to graphical tiles in videogames, but I don't like the looks of DF (especially the unicode characters) for some unknown reason
Considering the fact that I can't actually understand how to play DF, I have decided to switch to graphical tiles while I learn how to play
Some of the tools in the LNP aren't as useful in actually playing the game, but are useful for debugging or cheating (DFhack and runesmith) others like Dwarf Therapist are insanely useful for game play, as the UI of DF is quite crap at the moment. The stone sense to might be nice for you, too, as it's a 3d visualiser which can help you understand what's going on. I mostly like the lnp for the easy tileset swapping.
Just finished reading through Headshoots. That fort was insane.
Reading through it made me want to play Dwarf Fortress again but I only have this linux computer at the moment and I dont understand how to work things in linux :(
EDIT: Nevermind got it to work through wine instead of having to mess with crazy command line stuff, starting a new world now
I was playing adventure mode, travelling around at night just before dawn, then boogiemen attacked. I just began playing so I didn't want to get raped so soon so I started running away, I went down into a frozen riverbed and started running away along it, I lost the boogiemen soon after.
Then came dawn and the frozen river melted.
The region my new fort is in is weird. The lowest z-level is only -59. Usually it's like -130.
There are also giant cave spiders.
Halp! My dwarfs are engraving heroic images of... ELVES! :v:
I ordered all my entryway floors to be engraved and like ten of the engravings of elves striking down ogres and goblins! Why are my dwarfs idolizing the elf scum like this?!
What should I do? Kill them?
Little help here:
Chalk is considered a flux stone, right?
If so, then why can't I make Pig Iron bars when I do have plenty of Chalk, Coke and Iron bars?
The option on the smelter is simply red.
My dwarf is having a mood and he's asking for rocks (not blocks). There are rocks everywhere but he's not taking any. He has all the rest of his requested materials except for rocks. What do I do?
If a world is shared on cloud (dropbox) and two separate fortresses are build at the same time, will they affect each other in any way?

magma
elf sympathizers cannot be tolerated

Create floor hatches in front of the walls they're engraving, then drop the dwarves into a water slide into Hell for extra fun. Alternatively, loads of magma.

if they're in the same world? my best guess is yes
How can I remove stones from underneath the constructions? The blinking is really annoying
And can I assign the jobs automatically? I messed them up, and now all the dwarves are doing nothing

pretty sure you can mark them to be dumped like anything else.
[editline]29th December 2011[/editline]
oh wait no, constuctions
My dwarf is having a mood and he's asking for rocks (not blocks). There are rocks everywhere but he's not taking any. He has all the rest of his requested materials except for rocks. What do I do?
Sure he isn't asking for rock bars?
They are actually metal bars
As for the blinking constructions, just h(hide) the objects that are in the square, can't remember if you use t or k to select them.

Well, no one answered this but the option did eventually turn green at some point in the game, so now I can make steel bars just fine.
I have no need for it though because I have plenty of Adamantine now v:v:v
And since we're on the topic of Adamantine, how come ever since I hit Raw adamantine, the caravans have stopped coming?
Is this supposed to happen or is this just another stupid bug?
