The designation itself seems to not work, not that the dwarves are not carrying it out. Also wondering if/how you can delete the staircases and delete stockpiles and buildings.

You can remove buildings by selecting them with [q] and pressing [x]. You can remove up or up/down stairs with [d][z] (for mined stairs, for constructed stairs use [d][n]). To remove down stairs, build a floor over them.
My hunter is retarded, he never goes hunting. He's got bolts and all that..
I don't know what's going wrong.. when I try to designate an upwards staircase directly under my downwards staircase it doesn't work.. I've tried on a few different worlds.. also like to add some of my staircase is red but when I examine it with 'k' it doesn't say it's broke or anything..
Just place up/down staircases, they work without using up stairs and down stairs
I never understood why they can't just go back up the 'down staircase' or anything. It's like all they build are, oh wow, chutes and ladders.
I never understood why they can't just go back up the 'down staircase' or anything. It's like all they build are, oh wow, chutes and ladders.
Because the down staircase goes down into the floor, not up into the ceiling. Shit, where is that layers diagram when you need it [editline]8th January 2012[/editline] Or nevermind because I am literally retarded
I never understood why they can't just go back up the 'down staircase' or anything. It's like all they build are, oh wow, chutes and ladders.
A down staircase is more like poking a hole in the floor, the up staircase is the bit that takes up the open air. It kind of makes more sense if you imagine the up stair as a staircase on the level going up, but not through the roof. Down staircases are the hole in the floor above that lets the up staircase be used. I just use up down staircases, though, much faster for mass designation.
Yeah, I got that. I was picturing a staircase going against physics or something. Like, you could walk up or down it on the same level, in the same direction.
God bless Dwarf TheRapist for making Dwarf Fortress more playable.
Anyone got some advice on what I should do with all these rocks? Its like everywhere I mine I leave a trail of pieces of rock behind, despite of them really annoying me (I like tidy fortresses) around everybody stops with whatever they should be doing to haul rocks. Not to mention my huge outdoor storage is full now and I'll have to dig a new rock storage, but since nearly every piece I mine drops a new rock I don't think it will help me much.

However you won't be able to use anything in a garbage dump because it automatically becomes forbidden so don't include things you want to make use of.
of course you can just reclaim those things.
Oh dear is there a way to limit the number of migrants? Just as start to get things under control and building up a nice stockpile full of food around 20 migrants show up. Now I have to do a lot of expanding. And make sure my food doesn't dissapear within days.
Spring has a large migrant wave, but migrants stop coming once the pop limit is reached. So if you set the population limit to 10 or so, you should only get the first migrant wave, and hopefully no more. Pop change can be done in the LNP, or by editing the ini. (I think default is 200 dorfs?)
I might be wrong but I think that if you set the popcap to 6 before you start a new game, you won't get any immigrants at all.
Oh my lord what. A two year old boy with a very long mustache, beard and sideburns has been possessed and runs all over the place collecting bones after claiming a workshop. Dem demonic forces man. Also how do I see something like the value of a item? The trading part is pretty hard for me since I have no idea how much stuff is worth.

Technically dwarf women should be equally hairy, but toady made a terrible mistake and now they all live in bare-faced shame forever. Like a curse of the gods.

The broker requires no office and will work normally. Then, when trading at the depot, make sure it's saying "only broker can trade" (if it says "anyone can trade", toggle it with r [I think]) and then order the broker to the trading post with the order. He'll then trade. The first time that the trade screen is opened for each caravan, the broker will get a few skill points in broker, so you'll be able to trade with the values visible. Only issue is if the broker's in a high maintenance job, like stonecrafter making repeated crafts, or a miner, as he may be busy. I tend to put him as something like the bookkeeper. There's no penalty to reassigning the broker later, if you're not happy with your current one. For the ground level, you want either an Up, or an Up-Down staircase. Then, for the above level you want a Down, or an Up-Down staircase. As you are trying to build up, you want to b -> C -> staircase you want, as you basically start on the flat ground, and want to build a way up. You can't dig out open air to make an upwards staircase, you need wood or stone. b -> C will build a constructed staircase, whilst d -> j will designate them to carve out a staircase from what is already on the square (soil or rock)
Does anyone want to post a picture of their trap layout? I need inspiration. Im considering digging a giant trench along my map with only a few heavily trapped ramps allowing access. Good idea?
How do I find my old fortress in adventure mode ? I can't remember where I embarked.
Can grazers eat grass on tile with pile of snow on it or do I have to move them indoors to eat fungus and etc. ? I embarked in freezing land and brought mules with my dorfs.
How do I find my old fortress in adventure mode ? I can't remember where I embarked.
I think if you go to reclaim the old fort you'll be able to see where it was.
How do I find my old fortress in adventure mode ? Then, you have to get to that rough area in adventure and find it. I just had the sickest and best idea for invasion defence ever: Imagine if Your dwarfs actually had to piss and shit somewhere too and you had to get rid of that with ingenious channel systems. Now imagine trapping a goblin invader army in a hall and raising a wall connected to a septic tank causing a giant tidal wave of crap and piss to crush the invaders. Now the cleanup might be problematic.

What sprite pack/skin pack would you all suggest?
