I've never actually gone to the circus. Also, my current world has some flux issues, although it has loads of iron.
I'm being invaded by badgers, there's dampstone all over the place, I got corpses to make a crypt for, and ffs my dogs are all dead. [editline]13th January 2012[/editline] Oh, and it's summer. [editline]13th January 2012[/editline] This age will be remembered as "The Dawn of Badgers" [editline]13th January 2012[/editline] This is gonna be interesting. No more food left. Badger swarm. Dammit.
i dont have any coal in my fortress so i have ca 30 dwarves only cutting down wood and getting it to the stockpile just to support a little bronze making
This age will be remembered as "The Dawn of Badgers"
Hide your family, go into full lockdown. Shut down everything and brace yourself for their righteous onslaught.
for some reason my dorfs refuse to hunt even though i have crossbows bolts and animals on my embark
Got a quiver for the arrows? I find the best way to do it is to give a dorf a higher ambush skill than any other, that should cause him to come into the game equipped in leather armour with a crossbow, quiver and bolts.

I have like, a thing with arrows and bolts that lodge into my body. I HAVE to pull them out, and then kill the archer who shot me with it.
I've never really had a problem with badgers. They just interrupt my dwarves every now and again and spam the announcement log. Now, giant badgers...
I embarked on a Terrifying area once, cause I can. My 7 dwarves were all killed by a swarm of skeletal badger men. Would have been alright if I just could have gotten things built faster.
So... Spearman with single companion, ambushed by goblins. Got beat the fuck down by a ton of them, including leader who chopped both my feet off. I just started throwing shit (big shit, like a warhammer and a halberd (the halberd was actually a one hit kill)) then focused on the leader. I stabbed him in the foot, he fell over. I stabbed him in the weapon hand, severing a motor nerve. From there on it's just us basically rolling around in the rain brawling. Most of the hits were blocked by both sides, then I managed to stab him through the head. He died. Somehow, my companion lived, and we crawled away until I stopped bleeding and fast traveled to a town. Now I'm about to retire this guy.
i have 154 dwarves and i havent had a single goblin attack does this mean i need to piss of my dwarven mother civ to have some "fun"?
Have you had goblin snatchers? Is there a goblin civilization in the [c] screen?
haven't had any snatchers and it does not show a goblin civilization on the [c] screen
Well, then there aren't goblins your world/they can't get to you. Did you embark on an island or something?
nah im in the middle of the world
Finally gonna bite the bullet and try to relearn this game. I wonder if I can remember how to make humans build 7 story platinum temples again. [editline]14th January 2012[/editline] Starting the second time almost feels worse because you're vaguely aware of all the stuff you have to relearn. [editline]14th January 2012[/editline] Oh God, why can I no longer seen individual layers, and why are cities gigantic, and what are all those well things?
One of my dwarves just made an artifact.
Lunagseth, "The Cloudy Ache," a cave spider silk left mitten

...On the item is an image of The Cloudy Ache the cave spider silk left mitten in siltstone.
Yeah, I've got a silk mitten with a fucking carved stone tablet attached, on which is an image of the mitten.
One of my dwarves just made an artifact. Yeah, I've got a silk mitten with a fucking carved stone tablet attached, on which is an image of the mitten.
The carved image of the mitten would include the stone tablet and that would have a smaller carving of a mitten on it and it would keep going on like that forever! It's mittens all the way down!
Oh wow this is gotta be the most amusing thing to watch ever. A group of maybe 15 Rhesus macaque monkeys arrived and started harassing my beekeeper, so I gave them a proper dwarven response by sending my full military to slaughter any Rhesus on sight. It is so much fun watching as my military is tearing apart those damn monkeys, severed bodyparts everywhere. Also it appears my animal pastures are like World Slam Mega Wrestling: Animal Edition.
Holy shit. [sp]that aint no circus, they even went trough my obsidian drawbridge [/sp]
I thought all my dwarves were dead, but then came immigrants. They arrived only to find unspeakable horror. Also, while I write this, one dwarf apparantly survived the onslaught, and begun to chase the immigrants all over the hills.
My leatherworker just got possessed and made a cat leather helm. yes, I did kill one for food, but I still don't know how I feel about this. It menaces with spikes of cat leather and milk quartz, aparently.
Leather armor is useless against anything bigger than a dog bite
I know, but this one is made of cat.
I know, but this one is made of cat.
Put it on display for all of the cats to see! They shall know what will happen if they defy you!
My leatherworker just got possessed and made a cat leather helm.
I wonder if it has cat ears. :3
The carved image of the mitten would include the stone tablet and that would have a smaller carving of a mitten on it and it would keep going on like that forever!
No, this is Dwarf Fortress. If it had an infinite number of mitten images, it would mention it in the description.
It did, because it said on the mitten is an image of the mitten in stone and because that image is on the mitten it must also be on the image of the mitten and on the image of the image of the mitten etc.
Does cooking food allow you to feed more with the same amount, or just make food more compact?
Does cooking food allow you to feed more with the same amount, or just make food more compact?
Makes food more compact, increases the value of your food, and makes your dwarves happier after eating them.
