Makes food more compact, increases the value of your food, and makes your dwarves happier after eating them.
So would increasing the value mean they stay full longer? Also, why was the thing that showed all the mineral layers simplified?
so, I just encountered my first forgotten beast. All my dwarves are wearing copper armor and using copper weapons, most of them are novice at whatever their weapon is, except for a few adept and talented.
As is the exact opposite of what I expected, the worst injury was one of my dwarves losing a tooth.
Hell, the kill was made by a recruit, who chose to bite it, and then bash it in the face with an crossbow after it shook her off. I'm thinking I got an uncharacteristically easy forgotten beast here.

forgotten beasts are usually ridiculously easy or ridiculously hard, luckily it's usually the former
You either get a blob of salt that dies to a kitten, or a mosquito made of fire with poisonous dust that instantly causes your dwarves to melt.
While playing adventurer mode I got a quest to fight a forgotten beast in a desert, and as soon as I got there it immediately melted because it was made of snow. :v:
poisonous dust
Poisonous dusts and shit are the most annoying thing. Especially because they can contaminate your dwarves if they get on their armor and stuff spreading them around and causing necrosis and shit to people while you're still figuring out what the fuck is happening.
I set my population cap to 30, but I still got two waves of 7 after hitting it.

Because Toady wants forts to adapt to their environment, instead of choosing an environment that suits your fort. That's why it's now impossible to see the precise metals that an area can get other than "shallow" and "deep" indicators
My fortress just ended because a child fell in a whole and drowned.
It was the militia commanders child who went on a rampage, killed half the people in my fortress (of around 100 people) until the rest of the militia took him down, the other half of the people were so depressed that they either starved themselves or went mad and killed each other.
Twas fun to watch.
does anyone know how to fix the little line in raws that dosent let some nobles arrive on the map(hammerer,Dungeon master)?
Can some items not even be traded? I can't even send totems or an artifact figurine to the Depot.

Shame, I loved looking for just the right Embark, especially ones where I could carve out huge obsidian dining rooms an dorms. Also, I could of sworn my embark said I had flux, but all I can find is Chert, Conglomerate, and Gabbro.

My current fortress has only copper available. There isn't even tin.
Luckily, nothing seriously dangerous has shown up yet. I get snatchers, so I assume goblins have access to my fort, but I've had no sieges yet.
I'm having the same issue, I only get snatchers and the occasional cave beast. I've even caught all the snatchers I've gotten in cages and built a smal arena for them to fight in, and also killed all of an elven caravan. Not a single declaration of war or anything.
So my longest running fort ever got destroyed, I didn't even get to finish my awesome cobaltite pyramid :(
Anyway I had no idea the abyss existed so i just kept mining down to get as much adamantite as possible and next thing i know around 50 demons swarm my fort. Attempts to seal off staircases were in vain.
Everyone started going insane and being slaughtered. Well over half my fort died before I abandoned it.
On the plus side my dwarves managed to kill 4 demons! :/
Well now i know.

Welcome to the circus, I hope you enjoyed the clowns.

"Looks like we got us here a showdown, boys!"
Battle was won with only 4 casualties.
I need help with building a windmill. I'm trying to build one on the top layer so I get wind. But how do I get the power from it? On the wiki it says to build something below the windmill but if I channel only one piece out, it won't work.
How do I do it?
Now, I've never used windmills (waterwheels or handpump for life, combined with laziness) but I think that you channel out the square beforehand, and then place it.
1 sec, youtubing for a video. This one's a bit long, but jump through the chat and it should do.

Are hammerdwarves able to use shield/buckler ?

Good that you experienced it without being spoiled beforehand.

Best embark ever. Apparently the caravan slid down the cliff into a hole and broke.

Does magma replenish? If I was to pump some magma out of that volcano, would it fill back up?
Having my first tantrum spiral after my first goblin siege (was only 12 bowmen?). It's beautiful, all the chaos and destruction.

Bowmen (and blunt weapon goblins) are the most dangerous types.
Bowmen (and blunt weapon goblins) are the most dangerous types.
Yeah they fucked me kinda hard. 5 axe goblins and a lasher one just arrived to the party and some of my dwarves were calming down :(
Edited:
Fuck yeah caravan just arrived this might not be the end!
Edited:
Just kidding, out of nowhere: AN AMBUSH!
So a bunch of ambushing, bow wielding, lock picking, trap avoiding gremlins came up my staircase from the caves and killed my fortress. (Masterwork adds ambushing cave civs)
Don't feel like save scumming the fort... wasn't really a good embark place beyond the crazy volcano.
I wish there was a setting to control the size of migrant waves.

Magma pipes(volcanoes) should replenish, unless it was changed.
I ended up walking into a night creatures den in adventure mode which was supposed to contain a consort of the vile woman, the latter being a historical night creature with 20+ kills. What I found was the consort, the vile woman, and their twisted child all waiting behind a corner. My dwarf now has their heads stuffed into his backpack.
I tamed one of the new megabeasts Masterwork adds:

He may have killed one of my war dogs, but I forgive him. I'm 100% sure you aren't supposed to be able to do this, but I don't mind. It flies around at superspeed and rips off heads.
[editline]17th January 2012[/editline]
Wow. The king of my dwarven civ... is a kobold...
This is a megabeast. It is a blob made of obsidian burning with the essence of magma. It is searingly hot. It has wings and it has super endurance.
FUCK
