brown recluse spider men D:
Big fucking NOPE.
It's a bug I think, someone getting a limb cut off won't be treated because there's nothing left to treat. Dwarven logic. I had one recruit who had his nose sliced off, and he went on sparring as usual until he died of infection caused by the missing untreated nose.
My militia captain apparently has his right thumb nail smashed open. Hmm, he's also susceptible to disease, but survived two infections without being affected at all.
Big fucking NOPE.
Now that's not a dorfy attitude, is it?
Your nope can become a glorious "yes" when you create a pit full of these devious creatures, and chuck opponents into it.

Location matters too. Infected nail is gonna be way less deadly than infected nose or limb stump.

Pits of venomous creatures. Sounds like fun.
Do the internal organs also get infected? How well do dwarves surive without some organs?
All open wounds can get infected. So basically internal organs that have been heavily damaged by a blunt weapon won't get infected because it's not an open wound.
I don't actually think that organs (saving the brain) are necessary in vanilla :v:
A removed organ just causes death by blood loss in most cases, though it would be theoretically possible to get a dwarf with a removed heart, if surgeons can stop the bleeding. (I think)
The brain is an instant kill, though.

Can dwarves sustain brain injuries without dying? sometimes when I look at combat logs, I see "tearing the brain" before another blow that actually kills them; "tearing apart the brain"

Guessing you're not using my balance fix.
In vanilla, even bruised brains kill instantly, making for some shitty combat.
In the balance fix, damaging the outer brain causes heavy nausea and pain, but doesn't kill. You gotta tear the inner brain to kill. Two separate parts, inner inside the outer.
Goddamn I hate when people in the official forums says something is "inappropriate"
This is the game were I can beat a child to death with the severed heads of his parents, THERE ARE NO MORAL BOUNDARIES GODDAMMIT.
Killing elf traders is inappropriate. Please, no one do it.

Don't even get them started on the existence of divine beings or magic, they'll flip out.

Also don't suggest any form of procreation unless it's spores. Anything other than spores is not appropriate.

I think if anyone seriously thought this, it would be the downfall of civilization.
Starting my Pathfinder session soon.

Sorry but, can you post a link to this balance fix?

the OP, read it.

It's in the OP.

Art and init go to data (if you want square ASCII tiles and better colors, instead of the default non-square ASCII and eyerape colors) and objects goes to yourdffolderhere/raw (overwrite all, fixes balance), needs a new world to be generated when installed.

At least I'm not a dick like you, Orkel!
:(
Sorry, I checked the modding section and didn't see it there, so I thought it wasn't in the OP.
Thanks a bunch, though.
Zach and I shoveled snow today. There were also six brown recluse spider men set upon a giant elephant seal. The pain and rot had final victory, though many animal people had to be crushed for it to happen. Various other envenomations occurred. I'm down to dwarf-thought preference strings and coloration issues now to finalize the raw text.
Someone redid the theme with a bit more epicness. The youtube description includes a song_game.ogg version to be placed into the game files. it loops perfectly.

I like the original version, sounds more authentic and less 'recording studio' made.
Also, i received a goblin siege of no less than 40 goblins and 10 trolls. after only dealling with 5 of them, the game froze while still unpaused. I did the only logical thing to do, leave it in the background for an hour or so. When I had returned, it had unpaused and I feared a high casualty rate. NOPE! 7 trolls and 11 goblin prisoners in cages, along with only 3 military dwarves gone, invading force repelled.
Finally fun started!

anyone know of any graphics sets that's the original ones exactly as they are but square?
[editline]20th January 2012[/editline]
I know they exist, I've seen people here post screenshots like what I'm talking about. I've checked the graphic sets repo page, but there's so many and the descriptions don't help.

It's higher pitched than the original. Possibly even a bit faster? Sounds too cheery for DF imo

Doesn't one come by default?
Doesn't one come by default?
if it does I've got no idea how I'd go about enabling it.
