There's nothing more satisfying than mass sacrifices of trolls, goblins and badgers to the magma god.
There's nothing more satisfying than mass sacrifices of trolls, goblins and badgers to the magma god.
Is there a god of grizzly bears? If there is he will be happy with my grizzly bear pit. They all expect magma, but suddenly bears.
anyone know of any graphics sets that's the original ones exactly as they are but square? [editline]20th January 2012[/editline] I know they exist, I've seen people here post screenshots like what I'm talking about. I've checked the graphic sets repo page, but there's so many and the descriptions don't help.
http://df.magmawiki.com/images/0/03/Alloy_curses_12x12.png This is the one I use. It's the default tileset except 12x12. I have to save it as .bmp to get it to work though.
png has transparency support, so you need to get rid of all that pink stuff in order for it to work properly. [editline]20th January 2012[/editline]
...and pasture the last hen and the cock in the single nest box room...
Holy shit chick-splosion [editline]asdf[/editline] It's like a cage match in there oh god [editline]asdf[/editline] I feel like I'm organizing dog fights, but with recently laid chicks. Bets anyone?
I like the original version, sounds more authentic and less 'recording studio' made.
I kind of like the low quality version of the original. It gives it a really warm, nostalgic feeling.
my dwarves have been using adamantine cloth as medical bandages you stupid fucking dwarves

Oh damn how'd this happen; aren't babies attached to their mothers? Anyway what do you think happens to these poor children?
Oh damn how'd this happen; aren't babies attached to their mothers? Anyway what do you think happens to these poor children?
Isn't it possible for them to grow up in with the goblins and then be seen in the world's future leading a siege? Or did I just imagine that? [editline]20th January 2012[/editline] I remember hearing it somewhere but I don't know if it's actually a thing.
Oh damn how'd this happen; aren't babies attached to their mothers?
not necessarily. I just had a siege, luckily with no building destroyers, so since my military wasn't really ready just yet I closed up my fort with floodgates, thinking everyone was safely inside. Then I notice a dwarven baby on the ground outside, right in the path of the siege force. needless to say, it died horribly.
Oh damn how'd this happen; aren't babies attached to their mothers? Anyway what do you think happens to these poor children?
The goblins adopt them as their own.
Oh Dear, my plan to irrigate a underground area for farming purposes has backfired dramatically. I had more free buckets then I expected, and because my dworfs are lazy as fuck they couldn't be arsed walking towards the river and flooded the room with Rhesus blood instead, left over from my previous onslaught. Now I have 2 giant farms flooded with blood what do?
The elves' horses randomly died in my depot. Six dwarves all got both of their arms and hands hurt and bled to death within seconds. No combat logs. No forgotten beast blood or extract or anything. what is going on i dont even
Hey guys, I am trying to get into the game. I tried it once but my working schedule was pretty intense. Does anyone know where I can get some kind of graphical overhaul mod which replaces the ASCII graphics with some kind of graphical representation of the terrain and inhabitants? Thanks
Ironhand graphics pack.
I stopped playing this game because the military takes an absurd amount of time to train. Is this being changed or are there any ways to get them to train faster that isn't some lame exploit?
just conscript your entire fortress and arm them with weapons and armor every time an enemy shows up
The problem with the military is that one or two deaths can lead to a tantrum spiral. Bad thoughts caused by the death of someone in the military should be lowered enormously, after all it's their job to risk life.

Thanks
The Lazy Newb Pack is your best bet, comes with Dwarf TheRapist and some extra useful stuff. Also, installs the graphics sets for you. Is there a way to auto-restrict Ice? Last winter I lost 15 dwarfs including 2 legendary hammerdwarfs because the ice they walked on insta-melted. It is such a tedious job covering the rivers by hand there must be a easier way.
The problem with the military is that one or two deaths can lead to a tantrum spiral. Bad thoughts caused by the death of someone in the military should be lowered enormously, after all it's their job to risk life.
Currently there's like 2 stages of dwarf mentality, homicidal maniac and happy. There isn't anything meaningful in between, I think dwarf depression with different levels and stuff like that should be added. Like if 1 or 2 friends of a dwarf friends die he should become depressed instead of murdering everything. The instant homicidal maniac behaviour should arise more realistically only when some massive catastrophy occurs and everyones dead and on fire or under prolonged stress like a siege after the food has ran out.
Instant homicidal maniac's good if the dwarf has the dispositions towards it (some are quick to anger e.t.c) but I think it'd be cool if dwarves moved slightly faster, worked faster e.t.c if they were happier. They could slow down (like lack of booze) if unhappy, getting worse the unhappier they are.
Just survived my first Siege, no losses or anything and I think I got away with it in a really lucky manner. Though my array of menacing spike traps had proven ineffective at wounding the spearmen, the captain (I think) crossbowgob riding on a giant toad had some real trouble dodging them and got raped by the first crossbow trap he stood on, killing the toad and heavily wounding the captain. That's the point where the rest of the group started fleeing, except for that one unlucky speargob who was first to pass my door to the hall where my military was positioned. She got torn apart without being able to do any damage and later I found the struggling captain crawling over the hill and properly executed him with 20 bolts. In other news my cook keeps creating masterpiece omelets and my fisherdwarf just made a 52,8 k artifact door.
My fortress of 90 dwarfs got under siege by 76 goblins including trolls and goblin generals. My entire army consisted of 40 axe, hammer and spear dwarfs. After the battle, 14 were left alive of the entire population. Then a surviving spear dwarf went insane and killed 4 dwarfs. Then he got killed and now I got migrants! Oh man, this game is so much fun!

[thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/lols2.png[/thumb] I have a pretty strict screening process for immigrants.
How do I spawn creatures in the Arena? Never mind I'm a dumbass who doesn't pay attention
[thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/lols2.png[/thumb] I have a pretty strict screening process for immigrants.
I accidentally killed my mayor because he was laying unconscius on a draw bridge that I didn't have the time to pull up so he fell down together with a bunch of corpses :v:
Wow, embarked on a new fortress, it actually has iron and coal for once, combined with the fact that I lucked out and got a breeding pair of horses. Oh god, what? My game's refusing to let me build any construction out of stone, only logs are appearing on my build menu, and I've definitely got unforbidden non-economic stone. Not letting me build out of metal either, only wood. Oh god, I'm a fucking degenerate. I designated my dorfs to remove ALL stairs and ramps in my moat by doing a large selection box. I neglected to think that my main stairwell was a stairway :v:
You could try (d) designate -> (o) Set Traffic Areas -> (r) restricted traffic area
I already spend the last hour doing that, just ten minutes ago however I lost another 15 dwarfs magically disobeying my orders. If I didn't need the food and water so much. In other news a Glacier Titan with wings and a posionous stinger showed up. First I'd figure I would lure him into my killing corridor and take away his ability to fly away. When he started to attack my cattle I decided to rush his ass though, (It is pretty funny how a horse managed to rip off a toe). For some reason, all my military suddenly decided they had to store some items in a bin before killing the Titan, and only a wrestler and a novice swordsdwarf with just a wooden training sword decided to attack. The wrestler bit the Titan's only eye, and got seriously mauled by everything the fell beast had, in the end he had taken 4 stings of the stinger, he lost one eye, his left arm was gone, his right leg was fractured all over and he still managed to kick the Titan in the tail shattering the stinger before being mauled to death. During this time the swordsdwarf was hacking and whacking it with her sword tearing open everything and blinding the titan by jamming her sword into it before being whacked by a wing. (Which was the moment she decided she'd better get some real gear). By the time this heroic battle was over the rest of my military rushed outside, the Titan tried to fly away but got shot down by bolt fire. Then my 19 men army just stacked ontop of the Titan and bashed, whacked, stabbed, clawed, punched, kicked, and bit away at it. It seriously took 10 minutes before it died (Final combat log had a 100+ pages, around 85 from the final beating), the Titan (being blind and without stinger) only did some petty attempts at attacking my dwarves, missing all of them. When I find out how to do it I'm going to erect a huge golden statue of this wrestler because I believe that he easily saved a dozen of lives by shattering the stinger with a broken leg. This game is tense.
