Oh shit this is the worst forgotten beast I've had yet,

but it spawned in an area my dwarves haven't mined to yet. So it's stuck flying around in an empty cavern. I've found some magma, should I try to fill the cavern with the stuff and kill it?
Oh dear, my adventurer just killed a dragon! though he is fucked up badly, infections and broken limbs. I hope he survives.
A little world gen speed, and the preference strings are in. I'm currently working through a crash bug that Zach found which only happens in the release compile. Those usually only come from a few kinds of errors, but it's time-consuming to narrow it down.
If they're making the release compile, then the new version should be out in a day or two.
Oh damn, dwarven children should count as pets. One just wandered into my danger room and got impaled instantly by a seemingly harmless training spear.
Any tips for playing adventure mode?

You're too good at Dwarf Fortress.
Any tips for playing adventure mode?
You won't be attacked by boogymen if you have a companion (or more) and armour is really good - try and get some asap. (can be quite hard, as adventure mode needs a lot more flesh to be added to it, some will be in the new version)
Oh, and wrestling is hilarious, throwing is amazing. (better than any other ranged combat, as it's faster and as strong)
Wrestling is hilarious. I grabbed some guy by the throat while my companion pummeled him with his feet.
EDIT: I'm having way too much fun in arena mode
Can anyone direct me to the variable you have to change in the advanced world parameters to make the town/hamlet count larger? I tried editing the night creatures out but there's only about 30 towns and none of them give me any quests or have shops.
Is there any way to build regular floors? I mined three downward staircases in the wrong place, I read that to get rid of them you needed to channel the area. This left an open space, so how can I get rid of the open space?
b -> C (capital) -> f will command to build a floor. Reshape it with umkh like a farm plot
b -> C -> w for wall, F for fortification, u for up staircase, x for up/down staircase e.t.c
It uses the skill depending on the material, e.g. masonry for stone, blacksmithing for metal, carpentry for wood.
Got my first working magma pump stack. It takes magma up 7 z levels!

I had to get energy from 3 water wheels from the surface though, which is about 30 z levels away. It's a fun project for such an uneventful fort.

Speak of the devil, SIEGE.

Warded off by a couple of archers and a random bystander. Dang my dwarves are awesome.
Building floors might increase your fortress' wealth or make it nicer, which is why all of my fortress is smoothed or built on, then engraved if possible. About 50/80 dwarves also have their own room, all engraved, and about half of those have large rooms that go from throne room to fine office.
I'm too nice.
Damn too much is going on and the game's fps has gone to shit. Any advice on what to do? I've tried putting most of my animals into cages but that's not quite fixing it.
Should I dump magma on the excessive amount of dwarves I have?
The magma is probably the problem, though an excess of dwarves/kittens cause it too. I think that every time magma moves onto a new tile, the surrounding 8 or so tiles undergo temperature recalculations which, when in a pump stack, happens at blazing fast speeds causing massive lag. I'd either disable temperature or disable your magma pumps for the time being.
Would disabling temperature hamper my ability to burn things to death with magma?

DAMN
man, the dwarven civilization in my current world has had an unpleasant past. Almost half the engravings my engravers make are images of several different dwarves being killed by the same elf, along with one of a dwarf getting killed by a bear; "The Onslaught of Disembowelment"
Would disabling temperature hamper my ability to burn things to death with magma?
The typical cause of death in magma is normally by drowning rather than melting. Disabling temperature will increase your FPS at the cost of making non-breathing foes (undead/colossi/titans) magma-proof.

And now I've found a name for my first born child.
Or a cute little puppy. Whichever comes first.

The magma gods should be pleased. Magma pumped to the surface via advanced dwarven technology.
haha, oh wow
so a little while ago a goblin siege, half consisting of trolls, got most of their legs cut off by weapon traps.
Just now, I was looking at some wall engravings, and it turns out the siege has a name in my civ's history: Uspenumuz, "The Roasted Attack." It's a picture of a troll getting killed by a menacing spike.
Also, half of my engravings are about elves getting killed by a titan. I'm assuming the event became something of a Dwarven holiday.
I'm looking at all of these now, because in each successful fort I eventually make a library, consisting of rows of engraved walls made solely by a legendary engraver.

Whoa I've never had this happen before. Usually my military dies off before they can do anything.
I've never played this, but I have one question, should I play the 2D or 3D version?
I've never played this, but I have one question, should I play the 2D or 3D version?
The 2D version is many years old and has much less content. The 3D version is the way to go.
Not sure what's so funny about this. It's not referring to the graphics or anything, but the rock layers. The older 2D grid versions were still popular for a while after the 3D versions started, but that's many years ago now, hence there's no real reason to choose the 2D version except for nostalgia.

Get back in to dwarf fortress or i will murder you! We live in the same country so it's possible.
is that a good reason (there is no definite release date but they said late january if everything went smoothly)
That reminds me, in my adventure mode I was sent to kill a nearby titan. I looked them up on the wiki and was really excited that it would be difficult to kill them and that I actually might die (I later went to kill a Roc after it had broken my spine, so apparently I was more powerful than I thought, but that's another story for another day). When I get to it's lair, I go to check what kind of titan it is.
It's made of glass....
The first damage that is done to it is one of my crossbowmen shoots a bolt at it which cracks one of it's legs off. so much for this being a challenge. My whole party rushes up to it, I lob it's trunk off (:v:), and we beat the shit out of the thing until it's head cracks off or something.
