Oh lord a copper-skinned minotaur showed up today. Too bad I didn't bother to read its description about him being copper before I sent my full military after him ( all armoured and armed with copper, not that far yet) so now they are all dead, as is half of my livestock and a unlucky spinner.
The good part is that I caught the fucker in a wooden cage, now what to do with him?
I was thinkingo f creating a arena where gobs face his might.
drop him into a huge pit
with weapon traps at the bottom
actually i've never thought of doing that before, would that cause more damage?
Well, he'd take fall damage and even a trapavoid creature will activate traps if it falls on them.
I know for a fact that upright spears / spikes do damage if you fall on them.

sweet i'll have to remember to do this next time I make a drop pit
If you want fun, a 10z drop should near always kill (as in 99% of the time) and a 15+ level often has them explode.
Makes a fuckload of hauling commands though.

yeah, usually I kill a few dwarves in the process of channeling the pit though, cave ins... so i'd prefer to just do like 6 z-levels with locked doors and traps so they just bleed to death or something, less hauling ditsance as well that way
Anyone know why my military can't be arsed to equip armour?
I have plenty of armour in my stocks, assigned them uniforms but they either wear no armour at all or only 1/2 pieces?
What's up with the wiki? When I click on pages like "index" it downloads a file called Index
Does that for me too. I end up having to just use Google to get around the site, since only half the links don't do that for me.
Tried to mod in some unique "good" and "evil" plants (Gildengrain and wormroot, which give golden malt and absinthe respectively) but the game's apparently bugged (for me at least) and it refuses to recognize any unique plants as existing.

Bug 4133: "Like all plants with the [GOOD] and [EVIL] tags, sun berries currently don't show up anywhere."
also includes glumprongs, feather trees and sliver barb

May be fixed in the next version in a week or so?
Well here's the start of Scorchedsmith. I'll update this whenever I can. Sorry for how relatively boring it is, not a lot happened in the first couple of months, aside from it raining almost constantly.

1st Granite, Early Spring, 211
When we set out from the Mountainhome so that The Wire of Gills might find itself a bastion away from the constant petty in fighting of the nobles and the cruel subjugation of their Hammerdwarfs, we did so in the hope that we might found a sanctuary in which any Dwarf might feel safe to pursue their work in praise of The Gods as well as all of Dwarfdom. To say that our Mountainhome, The Diamond of Fighting, is an unlucky one is to be an understatement. We have gone through five kings and queens in ten years and the wars with the Elves are still fresh in the minds of many and while we are now at peace with the damned tree huggers it is inevitable that they will soon launch another attack that will finish our Mountainhome for good. It is for this reason that I led The Wire of Gills, an organisation of myself and six other like minded Dwarves to the expanse of pristine forest to the south known as the Jungles of Pitch.
Let the records show that the following Dwarves have taken it upon themselves to carve their own names into the annals of history:
Kogsak Tiristnabas, “Kogsak Rimdivine” - Expedition Leader
Udib Dodokomet, “Udib Claspflukes” - Stoneworker
Olin Ngotolsakzul, “Olin Ghosttrumpet” - Woodworker
Melbil Isakmorul, “Melbil Spatteredpages” - Jeweler
Olin Dodokfikuk, “Olin Claspedfields” - Fish Cleaner
Iden Zarfikod, “Iden Outrageglazed” - Miner
Asen Satmebzuth, “Asen Strokeoars” - Fisherdwarf
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/3152.png[/img_thumb]

“Well we're here everyone. Welcome to Scorchedsmith!”
Kogsak Rimdivine, the de facto expedition leader and visionary of his group's odyssey into the infamous Jungle of Pitch did not receive the sense of wonder or awe that he was expecting, instead the motley crew of Dwarves with him looked remarkably unexcited.
“Looks just like everywhere else, boss.” remarked the group's miner, Iden Outrageglazed. Kogsak couldn't help but feel discouraged at that, looking up at the dark and ominous trees that surrounded them, the sky dim as clouds choked the low ambient light of all colour and vitality. The woods were silent save for odd calls and the occasional chitinous squeak, and Kogsak knew that the spot he had chosen in the sinister Jungle of Pitch was, in fact, virtually identical to the rest of the forest. Still, he had decided that this was where they were to strike the earth, and if they were to move then he would lose considerable face in front of his workers.
“Strike the Earth, Iden.”
Iden sighed, lifting his pickaxe and bringing it down on the soil beneath him. He knew this wasn't going to end well.

10th Granite, Early Spring, 211
After days of carving ourselves out some shelter, our miner has turned up Black sand, which while an inferior building material it is apparently a somewhat serviceable soil in which to plant crops. Not wanting to argue with the claims of my underlings, I have taken their word for it. It has taken a while, but we have managed to dig through all the sand and soil to reach stone. Work is already underway to dig out quarters and a dining hall, which is just as well as I for one have grown tired of sleeping in a dark, sandy cave.

22nd Granite, Early Spring, 211
I'm certain there's something else out here in the woods with us, but I can't prove it. Are these woods getting to me? I was told that these woods were supposedly cursed, and that with so many trees around Dwarves were known to lose their minds, some even going as far as to live as Elves. Of course such tales are fabrication, but I have taken it upon myself as our resident woodcutter to begin felling trees so that we might build furniture, as well as end their no doubt corrupting influence on my people.

25th Granite, Early Spring, 211
We have received our first harvest of Plump Helmets, the bountiful, sandy earth throwing forth its fungal bounty. The beginnings of agriculture warm my heart, and for the first time in a long while I feel we truly have a chance of prospering out here.
The trees are whispering to me of imposed woodcutting limits and of limitations of selling animals and bone products. I fear the foul elven influence has spread even this far. I must end the tree menace before it can threaten us. Tomorrow will be a day that lives in tree infamy.

[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/593.png[/img_thumb]
Udin was not a complicated Dwarf; he liked to drink, he liked to work with stone and he feared the Gods, especially Nadak and Lidar the Gilded Price of Luxuries, the Gods of war and commerce. He worked stone into stout blocks fit for a fortress and into fine crafts desired by merchants all over the world, his work was simple and satisfying, and despite agreeing to become a founding member of Scorchedsmith he was not prone to flights of fancy or to becoming embroiled in the eccentricities of others, which was just as well as he pondered his situation one cold and foreboding morning when he climbed to the surface only to find their leader swinging his axe into trees with almost reckless abandon. Kogsak practically foamed at the mouth as he felled tree after tree, cutting into them as if they were mortal enemies. Udin decided to end his break there and then, slowly shuffling back to his mason's workshop.
22nd Felsite, 211, Late Spring
We have finally finished work on the quarters for the citizens of Scorchedsmith. While we have yet to fully furnish them, the comfortable wooden beds are infinitely more desireable than the cold hard ground. And with the death of so many trees to provide enough wood, I rest soundly knowing I have done my part to protect my new home. The others whisper I have taken leave of my senses, but I'm not mad.
Am I?
In any case, Gods willing our efforts to colonise the area will continue to go smoothly. With the luck we've had so far, I'm confident that the future holds no nasty surprises for us.

To me, the new release feels like how the release of a hyped, full budget, PC game release would be. So excited!
It's coming very soon, right? I don't check this thread, but I click just to access their website every week or so, with my hopes up... still not out. Geez.

Toady is fixing final miscellanous small shit basically. Release probably within 1-2 weeks.
Just mined an entire vein of Limonite.
SO MUCH IRON. SO LITTLE THINGS TO MAKE
I found that bit hilarious. I don't know why, I think it's just the lack of emotion regarding the lack of hammers.
It makes a very nice building material. :v:
I've never actually bothered making soap, my dorfs get the finest medical treatment bar the soap, as I'm too lazy to sort out the whole lye/water buckets atm.
I hope the whole Lye mixing with water bug is fixed, it's quite annoying when making soap.
Apparently Masterwork changes the adult age of dwarves from 12 to 1.
I have a one year old in my military.
I always feel bad butchering animals because they just trustingly follow my dwarfs to the slaughterhouse.
I always feel bad butchering animals because they just trustingly follow my dwarfs to the slaughterhouse.
For all we know, they could've been dragged in there.
I've always imagined that dwarves put a rope around their neck and pull them to the butcher
My fort is stuck in SIEGE despite there being no invaders at all. I haven't gotten traders or migrants in like, two years.
There any way to fix that? I remember there being some save editor type thing...
I've always imagined that dwarves put a rope around their neck and pull them to the butcher
The question then is how they are able to go from living animal entering butcher's shop to a collection of prepared organs, meat, nervous tissue and hair in half a second.
I'm really trying to wait until the new release to start playing again... but it seems so long!
The question then is how they are able to go from living animal entering butcher's shop to a collection of prepared organs, meat, nervous tissue and hair in half a second.
Very efficient/hungry butchers, of course.
I've always imagined that dwarves put a rope around their neck and pull them to the butcher
Kittens don't need a rope.
Kittens don't need a rope.
They just use the pressure of the kittensplosion to propel the cats to the butchery.

I'm waiting until after Dwarf Therapist gets updated.
