The hydra bled out just as the period ended.
Nice choice of words there.
Woops, did not check the thread in time and missed a spot on the succession, oh well, may I have a dwarf named after me then?
there is still one spot left
You know what Dwarf Fortress needs? Silkworms (so humans can have access to silk clothing, but they'd obviously be a lot rarer then cave spiders, maybe as rare as finding sun berries) and Cotton (self-explanatory.)
Does the devblog say buildings will finally have more than 1 room? Am I reading that right?
You know what Dwarf Fortress needs? Silkworms (so humans can have access to silk clothing, but they'd obviously be a lot rarer then cave spiders, maybe as rare as finding sun berries) and Cotton (self-explanatory.)
Just call it Silkworm silk and make it less valuable(Cave spiders would need stronger silk to support them, no?). But yeah, sericulture would be cool.
I really wish I could take that last spot in the succession, but I know I could never come up with a good writeup or project for it, so I might as well just sit back and watch everyone else.
You know what Dwarf Fortress needs? Silkworms (so humans can have access to silk clothing, but they'd obviously be a lot rarer then cave spiders, maybe as rare as finding sun berries) and Cotton (self-explanatory.)
Shouldn't be too hard to mod in either of those, other than silkworms becoming cocoons and then moths, which might be difficult with the current system. WIP cotton if you want it (I'm not sure how well it works yet):
[PLANT:COTTON] [NAME:cotton][NAME_PLURAL:cotton][ADJ:cotton] [USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:STRUCTURAL:STRUCTURAL_PLANT_TEMPLATE] [MATERIAL_VALUE:2] [BASIC_MAT:LOCAL_PLANT_MAT:STRUCTURAL] [PICKED_TILE:159][PICKED_COLOR:7:0:0] [WET][BIOME:NOT_FREEZING] [VALUE:2] [SPRING][SUMMER][AUTUMN] [FREQUENCY:50] [CLUSTERSIZE:7] [USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:THREAD:THREAD_PLANT_TEMPLATE] [MATERIAL_VALUE:2] [THREAD:LOCAL_PLANT_MAT:THREAD] [PREFSTRING:fluffy clumps] [USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:SEED:SEED_TEMPLATE] [SEED:cotton seed:cotton seeds:7:0:0:LOCAL_PLANT_MAT:SEED]
EDIT: Okay, I'm pretty sure that it's working, but I'm not 100% sure about it yet.
They should make spider-based silk extremely tough but shitty at blunt damage, but infinitely rarer than what it is now. To balance things out, just replace the current cave spider with some kind of cave silkworm. Retain the cave spider as a little venomous vermin mob, of course.
I hope in Adventure Mode you'll eventually be able to choose a character from world gen that's just reached age. So you could play a young king, a knight, a cobbler, a mayor, anything. That'd be cool.

Because I think Toady is going to have your starting Dwarves be picked from the Dwarven civilization rather than custom made, at some point. So he might apply that to adventure mode as well.
It's been a while since i last made a fort, and it was even in an easy hospitable area, so i was wondering, should i make a new fort in a hellish place for glory and get back into the game?
I think I have a really shallow funhouse... is it normal for the adam weapon to be at only -22 z-level? :ohdear:
Devlog
Items are divided up now between the shops. I still need to do the storage for extra imports and generally clean up and arrange the objects better. All of the leatherworker shops I visited in my test dealt strictly in dog leather clothing, so they might need a little work diversifying their livestock and hunting during world gen. Certain goods need to be sold off and spread around among the citizens or the treasury a bit more as well. Right now the local gems that haven't been traded away are all still at the gem cutters shops, and it was like going into one of those plastic ball pits shopping there.
I've been noticing that forgotten beasts like to grab my dwarves and smash them against the walls of my stairwells, lost like three rookies to that. [editline]9th June 2011[/editline] In other news, one of my moody dwarves incorporated elf bone into his artifact table, I am so proud.
Finished my exams and got back into playing this. I just wish my dwarves would stop going to sleep in the danger room and on the weapon traps. I'm running out of coffin space.
Make them some beds, duh.
Make them some beds, duh.
In the middle of making the dorms, it's just that my population is large, but not large enough to deal with that and the near-constant clean up from goblin ambushes and sieges. and I'm not that good at micromanagement.
In the middle of making the dorms, it's just that my population is large, but not large enough to deal with that and the near-constant clean up from goblin ambushes and sieges.
Say, can't you engrave slabs with multiple names? So just engrave a single stone slab with the names of all your corpses, and NEVER worry about ghosts again!
It's not ghosts I'm worried about, I just need all that iron stuff, I don't have any ores as far as I can tell. also, get some marble from the caravan to make pig iron and steel. before I can react, mason gets possessed, grabs all of it and makes an artefact crown. He has a preference for tunnel tubes, so he should be happy until the forgotten beasts get him. [editline]also:[/editline] my militia dwarves are vicious sadists, instead of stabbing/slashing the ettin that arrived to kill it, they chose to beat it with pommel strikes and bash it with their shields, breaking every bone in the poor thing's body before one got another head strike in and killed it. 'nother ettin arrived and broke the floodgate to my magma dam. fuck.
Using captured goblins as rookie training is so fun. I stripped one and threw it into the barracks to see how they handled it, armed only with their training swords, shields and clothes. It was brutal. They chased it, gradually beating it into being stunned and then carrying on bruising it. I was kinda disturbed by what happened afterwards; they bit it's neck into pieces and it bled out within turns.
Ah started a new fort after uh a 6 month break from Dwarf Fortress do enjoy all the new shit. found some badgers on the map.Decided do look them up and now im scared because there are BILLIONS of them everywhere
My fortress went from a population of 47 to 6, including three dead legendaries. Gobliiiins :doom: [editline]9th June 2011[/editline] And it's all the fault of those meddling elves. I had my drawbridges up because of a single gobbo ambush on the other side of the map. I drop a bridge so the elf merchants can leave and two squads immediately leap over it and murder everything :smith:
Legendary wrestlers? Wrestlers are utterly useless, use weapons.
Those were random citizens I emergency recruited to fight off the second squad. The first lot had axes and masterwork armour but got slaughtered in like... ten seconds :frown: [editline]9th June 2011[/editline] oh no ghosts :ohdear:
Sorry for not posting yesterday, I had a lot of schoolwork. We began carving out the main storage rooms and workshop areas. The miners were not particularly happy about having to dig out a job this large. The above ground portion of the fort has been started. It will form a strong outside barrier from any enemies! The food storeroom is starting to fill. There is plenty of booze to go around! We added another two storerooms and more room for workshops. The homeland has sent more settlers to aid us. Not many with useful skills though. Very good, a caravan has arrived, hopefully they will be carrying some alcohol, as our stores are beginning to run low. The above ground portion of the fort has been completed. Accommodations for all have been added. Hm, this could prove interesting. Leather? Dammit, a very unlucky choice mason. Thankfully I was able to lock him inside his room without him doing any damage. He will have to either calm down or die. Elves? They had better have something good! Our population has grown significantly since we started, we'd better work on expanding our apartments. Wow, another? That's a shame that he's a weapon smith, we could have used him. We're no where near able to set up a metalworking industry, we haven't even got an anvil. Ugh, more migrants? Another one? Once again, not ready. Good thing I managed to lock him and the weaponsmith in their rooms. More? This could be difficult to support this many people, we're already out of booze! Oh dear, one of our woodcutters drowned while taking down some stairs for the well. Oh, well.

Here is the fort as it stands in ascending order of z level. I am retiring from admintstrator and passing on leadership to another. What do I need for the save file? Just the region folder? Whatever, I have to go for now. I'm pretty sure all you need is the region folder, so the next person up can download it here
i want to play this game but its so hard to get back into i remember all the fun i used to have, but something in me doesnt feel like learning how to do everything again convince me to play DF facepunch
How do I capture elf merchants, they ignore my cage traps when my axedwarves are chopping them to bits, I want to test to see if I can launch them off my tower using a bridge as a sort of catapult. [editline]9th June 2011[/editline] What the hell is dwarf puss and why is it on the floor
okay I'm starting my turn. [editline]9th June 2011[/editline] now i just have to change the raws back to default.
... No, I'm not seeing the humor. Feels more like a person LPing than someone narrating in typical legacy playthrough fashion. :saddowns: Remember, this stuff's usually in the past tense as well. Sorry for the nitpicking, yo.
