nah that pit was fer fishin' [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] btw your years are off I belive first guy took three. [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] oh wait I'm dumb [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] Also I only promised to employ the migrants, not employ them doing anything useful.
Upon rigorous further searching in the rubble of Scartongs, we have located several historic logs about the fall.
Scribblings on a wall from Ilral need leather need rock need wood need need need need NEED NEED make leather make all need place make PLACE FOUND TAKE NOW coat very comfortable many uses many fashion and is deery

BY AUTHORITATIVE DECREE In honor of the construction of my new leather coat, I am hereby announcing the construction of a great graveyard, with the names of all our dearly deceased residents engraved upon it. Failure to mourn at least once a week will result in 3 beatings.
It is reportedly only a few days after this declaration that the infamous minotaur Giginasol Tetothsavot wandered nearby the fortress from the nearby brook. Presumably, he was following the river in search of fertile lands, and Scartongs happened to be on the way. Hoof-marks on gravestones dated that year indicate that the first thing Giginasol did was rampage around the plains, presumably starting in the graveyard. Records are sketchy and coated in images of cheese and various vulgar images, but stock records of the time apparently list one minotaur in a cage. This means that Giginasol was most likely captured some time during his rampage.
By Authoritative Decree SHOCKING NEWS! There appears to be a mighty underground pool filled with lush plant life just slightly underneath our great home! Expeditions are not acceptable at this time, due to the nature of caverns and their wildlife! In addition a new amount of migrants have arrived! As their leader tells me, they had traveled here in hopes of obtaining religious freedom! As such, please do not question their worship of a great green monster in the sky that sneezed up this planet.
The yearly Dwarven traders had traveled along towards the fortress to do what they do best at this time, prompting a rather large celebration at this time. Oddly enough, a large force of invading goblins had wandered near the fort, as well. As records indicated, the warriors meandered about the area for a short while before spotting drunken revelers and attacking in full force. The militia and trading guards were almost completely overwhelmed, before the traps did their work, imprisoning two warriors and weakening the force enough so that a certainly brave Marksdwarf managed to execute the last remaining goblin, which was currently riding on a giant olm. All in all, the graveyard was toppled once again, 9 dwarves, 3 dogs, and the entire goblin force was either imprisoned or killed during the battle. At this point, logs and records mention the beginning of winter. [editline]12th June 2011[/editline]
nah that pit was fer fishin' [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] btw your years are off I belive first guy took three. Migrants are only useful if they have craft skills or military prowess. Anything else, you just give them growing and gathering labors, along with stone detailing.
Xain, could ya post your finished list so I know when it's my turn?
its at the top of page 9
The thread's been pretty quite since the succession started. :v:
All according to plan.
Just started playing about, 3 hours ago, so time consuming I love it! :v:
Would it be frowned upon to use the "lazy newb pack"? I tried starting this with nothing and I was pulling my hair out before I even got a base built. :saddowns:
Would it be frowned upon to use the "lazy newb pack"? (no, why should anybody care what mods you use??)
Buried deep within the rubble and bones of a rather deep area of Scartongs, we have managed to find what had occured between the winter and spring. Apparently, a large amount of construction was initiated.
Trading record, year 1053, Winter. Objects traded: bin of silk and fish, two jugs, and two hives for alcohol, plump helmets, and two bins of clothing materials. Trading deal made, asked for more alcohol, steel, and cows, due to popular demand for milk and weaponry. In exchange, we will provide seeds and leather products, along with more fish.

BY AUTHORITATIVE DECREE It appears that one of our own has made another priceless gem of an item! In celebration, I hereby order construction of both a grand arena to house our lovely prisoners, and a pair of items made from the bones of a hungry head! In fact, I have had my workers constructing the arena AND trying to find heads behind all your backs! Do be aware that I am certainly not doing anything else behind your back, like poisoning the alcohol supply so that I would have more for myself, or replacing the spider silk with pigtail cloth so that I can make myself a really nice bed, not at all! Attached as well are definitions of our priceless artifacts I had the boys carve up. As payment, they told me to place this amazing bit of history in my own quarters. I didn't want to, but they forced my hand, so there it lies. Every five days both it and my coat are to be washed in dwarven wine. Failure to do so will put you RIGHT on the corpse-raking team!
In addition, colonization and exploration of the caverns were initiated around this time. My team's crack cartographers attempted to draw what the original bridge and stairway downwards looked like. As a bonus, they quickly sketched up a map of what the fort looked like right as the spring began. Unfortunately, my expedition has to be ended soon, and our findings will be presented to the king himself. Hopefully, he will become intrigued enough to send us out again.

Whelp, that's my year. Whoever goes next, enjoy your turn. Grab it while you can, lads.

I have a hard time telling what everything is so a link to that texture pack would be appreciated.

Don't you hate it when your broker ignores the important caravan carrying important things and it leaves because he was attending a party? I do.
Don't you hate it when your broker ignores the important caravan carrying important things and it leaves because he was attending a party? I do.
Mark the depot so that anyone can trade. Sure, you'll get horrid deals, but at least you're trading.
so I couldn't bring an anvil with me on embarkment, and I don't really know how trading works. Can anyone help me, the wiki doesn't help. What do the sliders do in the trade menu?

What do the sliders do in the trade menu?
That's not the trade menu, that's a request menu. To trade, you wait for both your broker and the traders to be in the trading depot, then press 't'. Select goods with 'enter' (on both the merchants' side and the broker's side) and press the 'accept' hotkey which should be listed. Add goods if the trader doesn't accept the deal until he takes it. Now, on to the request menu. The sliders show you the priority. Effectively, that means how much they will bring, but also how much it costs.
oh, maybe I should have set someone with the broker labor, lol. I'm so bad at this game. [editline]12th June 2011[/editline] Totally destroyed some amphibian men I found in a cave. :smug: [editline]12th June 2011[/editline] oh, turns out brokers are nobles.
31.25
thanks [editline]13th June 2011[/editline] TangleCopper. STRIKE THE EARTH!
I really need to get back into this. I've been playing Goblin Camp to get me more acquainted with the basics, but just can't get back into the game. Goblin Camp is a more simple version of Dwarf Fortress, and is pretty much only the raw basics of it. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to learn the general play of Dwarf Fortress. Sadly, I've always had problems with my populations in Goblin Camp.
I just tried to download and play goblin camp. The resolution was too small for my likings, so I put in a new one in the settings. Then the resolution was too big (window didn't fit my screen right) so I tried to make it smaller. This time, when I quit and started the game back up again, it was in that resolution, but the menu wasn't usable and everything looked messed up. I deleted it and reinstalled it. Still messed up. Looks like I don't get Goblin Camp.
Hey, wait, whose turn is it now?
still yours derp
