can you turn ghosts off?
Godammit my computer lags like hell when theres a volcano on my map, even when it's offscreen I really wanted a nice and easy to access source of infinite lava :suicide:

So the entrance of my fort is in a little lookout tower that in the future will be surrounded by traps and have a shitload of archers in it
Have you tried all the CPU-saving tweaks, like turning weather/temperature off and minimizing the starting area? edit: THESE FUCKING BADGERS, I SWEAR TO GOD
Well, I minimized the starting area as much as i could, but what are these "CPU saving tweaks" that you speak of? Edit: Other than the weather stuff i mean
Motherfuckit. So I figured I could embark with a fuckton of rabbits right? they breed quickly and I could get a decent supply of meat and fur for leather making, plus fat for tallow. Only now I find out that the only thing I get from butchering rabbits is a skull, what the fuckballs. Anything I can edit in the raws for that?

Started a new fortress, I made a farm ,the stockpiles and the bedrooms are done, now what should I make, the cage traps and advanced security stuff or dig down for magma and pumpstack it to the moat?
DWARVEN ARCHITECTURE UNCOVERED AFTER FURTHER ARCHEOLOGICAL WORK, MORE AT 11 This first dwarven structure depicts some kind of bizarre memorial for the burial area nearby. Some scientists claim it forms a phrase but this has not yet been proved in any way. The name after a tedious deciphering process is to include words "tall" "pale" "tree hugger" "homosexual" "shishkebab" A possible rendition of the aforemented machine: We have also found miscellaneous notes and images regarding the dwarven kingdom: "fearsome drakes invading the village" "king of drakes fleeing our fearsome warriors" "lol I don't think so" FUCK more soap makers oh shit a scary ghost. WE ARE DOOMED PRAY TO ARMOK
I unfortunately won't be able to finish my turn, I'll upload my save today. I wish good luck to my successor and sorry for the delays. http://filesmelt.com/dl/region11.zip
I guess this new update means I'll have to keep my crypt sealed off and flooded while I'm not using it.
Those octo-liths I mentioned are working rather well, on a totally unrelated note: can creatures with tentacles grab things with them? such as weapons? and wield them? if so, how effective is adamantine against iron?
Not superbly effective against plate IIRC due to being so damn light
You can mod bodyparts to be able to grab things somehow.
Guys can someone explain why are honeybee stingings in the event log? Does it have any real effect on the gameplay, e.g allergies or something.
if so, how effective is adamantine against iron?
Adamantine edged weapons (swords, axes, etc)go through like the iron wasn't even there. Adamantine blunt weapons don't do anything at all. They're too light. Adamantine arrows are also worthless because of their lightness.
I hope so, my old instincts were kicking in when I saw carp in the river, but I reminded myself that they are no longer something to be feared, hippos on the other hand I'm unsure of.
If you want to play it really safe, you could build an enclosed platform going over the river with grates over the river tiles, and assign those as fishing zones. Bonus points if you add mechanisms on it to drop things on the hippos to test their strength.
wii, i'll be back on saturday, if it's my turn before then, skip me.
my dwarves wont move my goblins in cages even after i removed all other animal stockpiles than the one i want them to put it in
My current fortress has been rendered un-salvageable. Pro-tip: if you mod in creatures that are nigh unkillable and can learn, don't let them near artifact weaponry. also make sure they haven't been rendered untameable by killing a dwarf.
I found adamantine, and got pumped. But in my haste I designated the wall part, and melted one of my original 7. Oh well. Military all have adamantine swords now. They were using silver swords.
People, how deep do you normally find magma? Since my blacksmithing business is usually horrible to manage because the magma forges are like 20 or 30 levels deeper than the fortress. How do you manage? Volcanoes?
fuck i broke the wall again, i'm way too baked [editline]28th June 2011[/editline] cave crocodiles are eating my children in the caverns.

I put the smithy at Magma sea level. They aren't needed much so the walk doesn't bother me
Luck mostly. If not, level the entire forest for fuel.
Or just buy all the wood you can from the caravans, and make sure to use it before the next caravan comes.
im having some sadistic fun by throwing the goblins down into a cave sea where they break their bones and drown to death the only problem is that theres a megabeast there with broken legs right under my stairs so all my dwarves get spooked and wont do anything except going down and get spooked again
I thought I'd share two of my recent forts here. The screenshot was taken with Stonesense, which I find hard to play without these days: The first is an attempt at an above-ground fort, with a sort of longhouse theme. The largest (complete) longhouse is the dining hall with a kitchen underneath and the mayor's bedroom above, and the small house next to it is the trading post. The second screen is a more recent fort, and most of it is underground. I don't think I ever used those gatehouses for anything else other than a pit of stinking wardogs.
Does stonesense work with the latest version?
Does stonesense work with the latest version?
I'm not sure sorry, I've been distracted by TF2 for a month or two.
