Why not just give a starting dwarf sweet axe skills [editline]5th July 2011[/editline] Ironhand's
Yeah gave a dwarf some good hammer skills and now I'm going to fuck that bastard up (he's holed up in the farming room though, so I could just flood it and drown him, but it wouldn't be as fun).
Is there any major/well-known mods that are for the current version that let you play other civilizations? Such as humans etc in fortress mode
Is there any major/well-known mods that are for the current version that let you play other civilizations? http://filesmelt.com/dl/entity_default.txt then put that in your raw/objects folder. Gives Humans the ability to use coal, adamantine and make steel, as well as a functioning nobility. To play as other civs (currently set to play as Humans though) you just have to give the [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] tag to the nation of your choice and give whatever civ you're changing from an [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE] tag.
:O Will it give me access to human weapon crafting and etc, like longswords and halberds?
:O Will it give me access to human weapon crafting and etc, like longswords and halberds?
Yep, the only disadvantage being Humans can't make underground farms or use "indoor" wood (like Fungiwood and the like.) Last time I tried that I got some weird results ranging from vast fields of plump helmets aboveground to mass human extinction as everyone starved to death. Also, I set masks from RARE to UNCOMMON, so you may be able to get a civ that'll allow your soldiers to be outfitted with war masks.
Also, will anything besides goblins ever siege? Currently Im having trouble fighting off a bunch of consecutive ambushes, the moment the fighting starts I almost instantly lose all the recruits and shitey fighters to well aimed strikes, decapitations, and it's up to my vets to fight. And almost all my vets have lost a foot or a hand, I have one vet who now holds both his shield and hammer in the same hand (The hell? Lol) Also, I've tried to have one dwarf dual wield, for the sake of seeing how it would work, and I haven't yet seen him use both weapons in a single fight (well, he's dead now) but is there any benefit to it? Or am I better off taking a shield. You still can't be sieged by Dwarves, Elves can be pissed off to the point where they'll send ambush parties (but nothing really serious, just Hippies on Horses.) Haven't tested how Humans react to Humans attacking the caravans, but I'd imagine it might lead to a loyalty cascade. If you're talking like in general, Humans can go to war if you're playing as Dwarves, and operate a little differently (more intelligently) then goblins, any human diplomats that get near traps before an attack render said traps useless. Personally I'd go with a weapon/shield. In Adventurer Mode I've found that dual-wielding can be useful if you still want to slash a creature while one of your weapons are lodged firmly in another, but braining an opponent with a steel shield is just as effective.
whats everyone's opinions on using large fortress walls on the outside of their underground dwarf fort? would i be better off just making a long ass trap hallway with some ballistas? also, can archers shoot off the top of the walls (and hit enemies below) that are one or more z-levels above the ground
also, can archers shoot off the top of the walls (and hit enemies below) that are one or more z-levels above the ground
I'm pretty sure they can, but their range is still limited to the same distance, so it extends in a sphere around them(?).
A way to start with more than 7 settlers? Just out of curiosity :)
A way to start with more than 7 settlers? Just out of curiosity :)
None that I know of.
A way to start with more than 7 settlers? Just out of curiosity :)
In later versions it's planned to have more than 7 and you will be able to have starting scenarios as well.
Mm... I'd like a fortress that's comprised solely of a crazy, one-eyed dwarf baby and its pet zombie groundhog.
A way to start with more than 7 settlers? Just out of curiosity :)
There used to be a hack that allowed a few different starting numbers, but I don't know if it still works with newer versions.
Skilled hammerman, skilled dodger and skilled armour user with a iron hammer and breastplate+chain leggings versus 1 single goblin spearman. Dwarf hits once, which is parried, then the goblin spearman slaughters him. Right, now to not throw my chair out the window...
I have tried on many occasions to try and "get into" this game. I always end up being really confused and not wanting to play anymore.

Also yes. Don't forget to place the appropriate patrol zones though. Also please tell me once you find out how because I cannot figure it out. :argh:
I don't think I'll ever get tired of the combat reports in this game. Apparently a goblin thief managed, after being mauled on by about 5 armed dwarves, one of them a legendary archer, to cut off my militia commanders hand with a dagger. Guess she shouldn't have engaged that goblin in her training uniform. I also downloaded the latest version for my new fort, and about 3 animals died before I actually discovered Pastures. Even then, another animal died a while after being put in a pasture. Hunger strike, perhaps?
A way to start with more than 7 settlers? Just out of curiosity :)
Yes, there's a thread over at DF forums about using cheatengine or another memory editor.
Found a nice place for a new fortress. Right at the split of a stream in the desert with a volcano nearby (and therefore mountains) with everything I'll need and tons of animals to hunt (only downside is that it's scorching and has an aquifer).
I just found out that you can carve fortifications into slade walls. makes demonic fortresses easy!
Can't you negate demonic fortresses' ability to release the circus by paving over the area they come out of?
What's the kind of knife to use? also, sneaking is great fun, as with a high skill, you become essentially invisible.
What's the kind of knife to use? also, sneaking is great fun, as with a high skill, you become essentially invisible.
Yep, I used to play adventure mode by leveling up my sneak and throw skills a shitload, then I would just sneak into elf camps and throw arrows at them then steal all their shit. But elf villages no longer exist
So I have a food stockpile with a bunch of seeds in it in barrels and on the ground. And I have a stockpile ive made JUST for seeds. How do I get the Dorfs to move the seeds to the seed stockpile? i even disallowed seeds in the normal stockpile
I just don't get into this game, I can start it up and abandon the fortress, thats it :v:
I just don't get into this game, I can start it up and abandon the fortress, thats it :v:
Use a tutorial. CaptnDuck is good. or so I heard.
Damn, humans are a ton more picky than dwarves when it comes to what makes them happy and etc.
So the villagers told me to go kill a bandit in the southeast. I went to the southeast and couldn't find anything but huge fields :yarr:

Found huge galena, aluminium and gold veins. Also yellow diamonds. Add in the fact that I fucking love desert/savannah and damn. Not a fucking way in hell I'm losing this fortress (not that a loss is in sight, everything is going great, the fortress is completely independent from the outside world and I can simply lift the bridge when goblins arrive).
