How do you guys get so many sieges/forgotten beasts? I play regularly, but the last siege I got was like at 0.31.16, and I haven't gotten a forgotten beast at all. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I usually work my fortresses up to a high level, and nothing attacks me.
That's abnormal, did you check if you're at war with any civilizations or if you even have a goblin civ? As for the forgotten beast, they usually come from the caverns so if you haven't dug that deep then that could be a why.
My pre-set LNP embark choices lose a ton of the equipment after installing this. :(
Sorry, Humans don't have underground food or drink, so I recommend making a "Dwarf" and "Human" pre-set embark set.
Gored in the head by a troll. Such is life in soviet whateverthefuckthefortsnameis
Sorry, Humans don't have underground food or drink, so I recommend making a "Dwarf" and "Human" pre-set embark set.
Ropes, bags, cloths, and basic embark foods/drinks aren't considered "aboveground"?
Ropes, bags, cloths, and basic embark foods/drinks aren't considered "aboveground"?
What were the ropes, cloth and food/drinks made out of? I'm thinking about adding "Underground clothing" to Humans since I think that allows them to use silk, but I can't add the ability to use underground food or trees since that results in some very funky worlds.

[editline]29th July 2011[/editline] Also enabling cave lobsters would be nice.
Anyone else think flails are somewhat underpowered? I feel like they out to be incredibly damaging for every hit they make (i.e shattering legs and arms, crushing heads, and doing the "it collapses in a lump of gore!" thing for upper/lower body), but perhaps give them a very slow speed so they become incredibly easy to dodge. It would be nice to have flails be weapons of mass destruction like they were in 40d, except easier to avoid. I also wish shields could break because flails would be a great way to do that. That might lead to a problem where Grand Master Macedwarves/men/whatever were extremley hard to beat because they could swing the weapon in such a way that would make it incredibly hard to dodge. I'm sure that could be remedied somehow though.
When you go to embark get rid of your pig tail fiber ropes and replace them with cave spider silk ropes. You'll save 10 points per rope. Not sure if there's any major differences between the two though.
Pigs tail. [editline]29th July 2011[/editline] Also enabling cave lobsters would be nice.
Apparently you're able to switch pig tail fiber with rope reed fiber since they're analogous to one another. I'll start tinkering with the files tonight and see what'll happen. I'm pretty sure Humans can fish/butcher underground creatures though. The reason I'm hesitant to add in underground crops is because it leads to some really weird worlds. The first time I did it I got fields of aboveground plump helmets being overlooked by huts made of spore tree logs (the plump helmets were purple, yet had the symbol of strawberries.) While odd, this allowed for easy use of both above and underground food/drink (but it started to feel a little too much like normal Dwarves, if you know what I mean.) The recent worlds I've done aren't really that promising; for some reason human civilizations given the ability to use underground wood and food have started dying out, and I can't really explain why. The average size of a human civilization by 500-1050 when given the modifications involving food/wood/drink is like 1-2 villages and a castle on the embark map.
I expected one of the '(dwarfname) has been horrendously disfigured in the scrotal area by a rabid zombified billygoat!' moments by now but the worst thing that's happened is one of my top miners getting stung by a bee. Could you add me to the players list?
Can we get a list of the dwarves who are still alive? I want to see if I have survived the slaughterings.
My fortress' name is leakyanus. A fine name for a soon to be thriving dwarven metropolis wouldn't you agree?
Dammit, just got a dwarven adventurer named Id Hairybells. Died on my first night when I mistakenly slept outside. A boot to the face is hardly the nicest thing to wake up to.
Is there a way to UnForbid items that fall off dead dwarves? My woodcutter died a few minutes as I embarked and I really don't want to go through the troubles of getting a new axe for a fresh woodcutter.
D > B menu for unforbidding or forbidding or hiding or dumping or anything really large amounts of shit k > f and scroll to object to unforbid individual items iirc
I am going back to DF. Can someone enlighten me what changed since i played? I played last time when DF2010 was introduced, and using the military system was harder than hacking into pentagon.

Found out how to change the world gen options. I'm gonna make a world where everywhere is Serene and Mirthful, so my dwarves can live in relative peace and harmony. Screw "fun", I wanna see my infant dwarves grow old, seeing their lives unfold as the fortress grows massive in size.
If you set Night Creatures to 0 then you'll never get attacked by bogeymen as an Adventurer, ever. Also testing out the new human stats with the addition of subterranean clothing (silk and all that jazz.) Should I stop there, or give them the ability to use mushrooms as wood?
Good news, I'm finally comprehending most of this! Bad news, I can't seem to be able to get my dwarves to go inside and stay inside. They just loiter around at that wagon.

Oh yeah, I did end up finishing my new computer with the i5 2500k. At stock CPU frequency, my 25 year old fortress is back up to 100fps! Oh what a joy this is... Buuuut, I accidentally set my main fighter (who owns an artifact adamantine battle axe) as captain of the guard after over two decades of leaving criminals unpunished, then didn't pay any attention to announcements for a while. There goes about half an hour of progress!

Okay and one more thing confusing me that I'm too lazy to google for myself; how do you switch the Z-level being observed? My dwarves keep on going up over a hill and I want to see what else is up there.
Shitf+< or >, it becomes second-nature after a while.
Alright, thanks. So I figure eventually I'm going to have to worry about finding out how to make walls (It'll come to me sooner or later) but for now I am sticking with one nice method for everything in my fort. Symmetry. I don't think I've ever gotten this OCD about something before but I keep going through and counting the squares off of the line of symmetry to make sure everything is perfect. Then I have an extra room that I have no idea what to do with. Edit: Well here we go, some migrants. Guess I can use the Eastern wing for housing them. The ever so tiny, yet to be mined Eastern wing.
How do I get my dwarves to stop mining some place I don't want them to be at, and to mine another?
I had a great adventurer, a swordsdwarf called Urvad Godlight the magical bodice of trades. 64 notable kills, twenty other, big freaking hero world-wide. His last task was to slay a dragon despite him losing his sword, the use of his right hand, and his companions to a troll. He went to a bandit camp, stealthily executed them all with their own weapons, took a two-handed broadsword somehow and went alone to the cave of the dragon. He sneaked on in, took a face full of dragonfire, cut off it's leg, it tore off his, he whipped out a crutch and kept going like a pro. Then he smashed it's brains out while on fire, then he died of bloodloss and melting as he limped away. RIP, Godlight.
