Found out how to change the world gen options. I'm gonna make a world where everywhere is Serene and Mirthful, so my dwarves can live in relative peace and harmony. Screw "fun", I wanna see my infant dwarves grow old, seeing their lives unfold as the fortress grows massive in size.
Until unicorns impale the children through the abdomen and paint your walls red with blood as gore soaked fairies giggle at the carnage. [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] How do I disarm caged prisoners again?
How do I get my dwarves to stop mining some place I don't want them to be at, and to mine another?
You 'd have to remove the designation for mining in the place where you don't want them to mine.
How do I get my dwarves to stop mining some place I don't want them to be at, and to mine another?
Press 'd' to bring up the designation screen, then 'x' for "remove designation. select the area you don't want them to mine (the same way you assigned them to it in the first place), then assign a designation to the area you want them to mine. Or you can let them do their thing and they'll get to it eventually.
This is probably painfully obvious, but does strength effect how often you can dismember someone?
What do hunters carry the meat in when bringing it to the stockpile? I installed a mod that sorta interfered with the embark points, and I was in a hurry and just embarked with what I thought was reasonable. But now the hunter is just popping pigeons and deer without regarding the bodies laying there.
You need a butchers workshop
That's abnormal, did you check if you're at war with any civilizations or if you even have a goblin civ? As for the forgotten beast, they usually come from the caverns so if you haven't dug that deep then that could be a why.
I have savagery, beasts, and civs all set on very high, and I always hit the caverns and continue to go through them. I just don't get it, I have no hostile civilizations in any map I ever generate, and whenever I try to anger allies it won't work. I want a siege, but it just isn't happening.
...So I got bored of my fort (Speaking of, can anyone tell me why they aren't cleaning the fish I have stockpiled?) and decided to seal the dwarves in. All the animals died and now I'm waiting for the dwarves themselves.
You need a butchers workshop
Yeah, I forgot about that. I'm tired tonight. :/

Just lost half my fortress to dehydration during a long winter. Didn't have enough man-power to keep the booze coming. Also, why won't my dwarves make booze anyways? There's an entire stockpile filled with empty pots, barrels, and buckets, but they all ignore them and run around all over the place complaining about thirst...
You gotta have plump helmets and assign a dwarf to make booze at a still. Edit: And barrels.
Is there a way to make sedimentary rooms (loam, dirt, etc) look better, as in something similar to smoothing and engraving? I'm talking about the walls and floor, Not furniture.
You can build walls and floor out of wood or stone. Edit: Through building menu.
Is there a way to make sedimentary rooms (loam, dirt, etc) look better, as in something similar to smoothing and engraving? And I'm late.
Hmm, I have a wooden training axe in my general stockpile but no woodcutter dwarves seem to want to take it to carry out my order of chopping down some trees. D'you have to manually equip them with it or? Wait figured it out, had to set woodcutting as a new migrants profession
I never thought I'd have a surplus of food and drink on here at once. I don't know what to do with it all. D:
Store it in barrels so it wont rot and let it store up. When goblins siege your fort you will pontentially survive longer. Edit: Or put some dwarves making food on other assignments.
Can't seem to find stone pots under the masonry tasks. Is it under a certain submenu?
I never thought I'd have a surplus of food and drink on here at once. I don't know what to do with it all. D:
I have 3800 plant food, but 0 booze. The problem is that the farms produce so much that there are never empty containers for the booze. Guess it's time to stop them for a while. Also my fortress doesn't seem to have iron, shit. Only metals I have is lead, copper, silver, gold and some aluminium, none of which are good for cutting (and aluminium and lead can't be used for weapons/armour). I really need to find a sharp metal for my traps. [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] Fuck, should never have opened the way to the caves, 5 troglodytes ran in whihc aren't a problem, but now a Draltha is running around my main hall.
So, if i burrow my population inside my fortress will the evil things go away eventually? I'm experiencing a little siege right now and all my dwarves are just stuck inside and I have virtually no military right now.
Can't seem to find stone pots under the masonry tasks. Is it under a certain submenu?
Not masonry. craftsdwarf's workshop. (rock > pots)

I usually just have a guy making them from the start.
Gah, why don't my dwarves burn wood to make charcoal? I've got the order up but none of them go for it, is there anything I'm not doing? Nevermind, fiddled with DT and got it
Just created a new world. The name of one of the continents is the "Continent of Virginity" :v:
Just created a new world. The name of one of the continents is the "Continent of Virginity" :v:
Name the mightiest fortress there, "Facepunch."
Just created a new world. The name of one of the continents is the "Continent of Virginity" :v:
Mine is called "The Realm of Omens" or something to that effect. Most the carvings in my forts so far have been of pictures of dwarves getting mauled not related to any past events. also found a volcano on a beach, it blocks the only way from one side of the map to the other, as there is a sheer cliff face that my fortress is built into nearby. the sea freezes over around about the time the caravans come. this means that a lot of the time, I get blamed for caravans that have gone missing.
So how do I get rid if all these caged centaurs I have? Is it possible to throw them in the river? :v:
So how do I get rid if all these caged centaurs I have? Is it possible to throw them in the river? :v:
Lava is the answer for everything
Just killed an overlord in a hilarious way. I threw a rock into his gut, causing him to throw up all the time. So I threw my shield into him, breaking his spine. While he was paralyzed in his own vomit, I stood over his body throwing peat at him until he bled to death after I bit his head and broke a few arteries. I love legendary throwing, especially after I threw a rock at a Pikeman and tore his neck apart.
