Just killed an overlord in a hilarious way.
I threw a rock into his gut, causing him to throw up all the time.
So I threw my shield into him, breaking his spine.
While he was paralyzed in his own vomit, I stood over his body throwing peat at him until he bled to death after I bit his head and broke a few arteries.
I love legendary throwing, especially after I threw a rock at a Pikeman and tore his neck apart.
Throwing a knife at someone and getting it lodged in their throat is incredibly satisfying, makes collecting weapons have a purpose now.
Also we need money sinks in DF Adventure Mode, because it's at that point where you don't even need to collect money, since you can always just find the best armor from bandit loot.
Are descriptions of wounds and stuff in the announcements page or somewhere different?
v > wounds for a general wound list, view the character personality page or medical history for more detailed stuff
Whenever I throw a shield in adventure mode I just can't help thinking of how much like Captain America it is. Even better when it smashes bones apart.
So checking through the official forum, any mention of steampower results in a war.
More mechanical stuff and such (cogs, grinders, whatever) would be awesome though.

Mentioning anything that implies the existence of divinity or the supernatural also causes a massive outcry. They're quite narrow in their interpretation of Dwarf Fortress (although I do remember Toady saying that the tech is to remain at the 1300s or so.)
I have 3800 plant food, but 0 booze. The problem is that the farms produce so much that there are never empty containers for the booze. Guess it's time to stop them for a while.
Also my fortress doesn't seem to have iron, shit. Only metals I have is lead, copper, silver, gold and some aluminium, none of which are good for cutting (and aluminium and lead can't be used for weapons/armour). I really need to find a sharp metal for my traps.

Fuck, should never have opened the way to the caves, 5 troglodytes ran in whihc aren't a problem, but now a Draltha is running around my main hall.
Make aluminum crafts and shit. Sell for BIG BUX
How do I tear people apart with my hands?
I have legendary wrestling. What I normally do is I just use my hand to grab somebody's head/arms/whatever yet it never gives me the option to tear.
The only type of rending I can do is when I bit somebody and can shake them.

1400 I think it was. Steamengines, hydraulic mining, heck even electricity were invented way before the 15th century though (they were nowhere near as effective as much later when they became widespread). I'm not saying steampower should be in, but it's not like it was non-existent before the 15th century.
I'm surprised the DF community is so scared of the addition of some technologies and/or the paranormal since didn't the Threetoe story hint at what would come in DF? If so, saw a lot of paranormal/divine in there (also because with fantasy beasts, ghosts and shit I don't see how divine/supernatural is so no-no, because a lot of what is in already could be considered such).
I don't want too much steampower, and I don't think electricity of any kind would fit DF, but I'm not understanding the community's phobia of them.

Yep, only thing it's good for it seems (damn Dorfs don't know the potential of the material).
[editline]30th July 2011[/editline]
One thing we need though is more fire. Pit falls with flaming infernos at the bottom, boiling hot liquid metal being showered on goblins, flammable oil and so on.
post snip double
My image of dwarfs has always been a steampunky one. I think that a flintlock rifle is more dwarfy than a cross bow. But whenever a gunpowder/steampower thread comes up on the forum everyone rages, which I don't get. If you don't like them don't use them.

Press p to enter the stockpile menu, then use the * and / keys to increase and decrease (respectively) the number of pots and barrels your dwarves will save for brewing rather than food storage.
They don't really fit the game.
The steampunk dwarf is because of stuff like world of warcraft exposing you to that shit.
Dwarfs are medieval, mountain dwelling creatures. No steampunk shit there.
Well I shouldn't really talk, I use humans all the time. I like above ground a lot better then murky, damp, dark mountain homes.

Best to just disarm people then gouge out their eyeballs. How do you think I was awarded this title!

Okay, technically it was randomly generated, but I'm assuming the hundreds of gouged eyes didn't hurt my chances.
How do I disarm?
Best I did was break a dude's wrists then kick him him in the legs till he died from internal bleeding.
Grab their weapon then take a step back. The better you are at wrestling, the higher chance of keeping hold of it. After that, just throw the weapon away (or back at them, I guess) and go strangle 'em or something.
The good news is the dwarves appear to have learned how to eat their fish. The bad news is they won't drink water from the nearby lake I have flooding into the fortress.
Honestly I'm now TRYING to kill them here, I don't know why it's bad news that they're not drinking.
Edit:
False, they've started dying.

Did you pack any beer? Because if you did they will prefer that instead of shit infested lake water.

I don't think. I had a moment of mercy and carved open a path for them to reach the outside world. The three left alive shall REBUILD AND START ANEW!
Oh right, there's no food. Shit.
Edit:
And migrants. 15 of them. Up to 20 dwarves but they all seem to be slaughtering each other. Beginning to think these migrants are actually a passive takeover. And they're making it difficult to kill them. Especially since they killed the original expedition team, including the only mason. Now I can't seal them in.
In adventure mode I threw a cheetah's head at a Boss. It knocked him out cold.
So my brother came up with an interesting idea for a trap to kill goblins
W = water
L = Lava
A = Air
AAAAAAA
WWWWW
LLLLLLLLL
where when the enemies walk through the water the lava underneath causes the water to boil melting their fat, killing them.
APinAP, you're doing a great job with that bloodline but there's one thing that bothers me
what happened to those elf merchant survivors I failed to drown back in my turn?

The water would combine with the magma to make obsidian, thus giving the goblins a nice bridge to walk over. Either that or it'd just evaporate.
So my current hero died.
Time for my new hero, Jibby Crotchdwellings, to shine.
[editline]30th July 2011[/editline]
Also before today I haven't played that much, where do I get the quests to kill the big monsters like Hydras and Collossi?
Because I remember you used to start at an Inn and you would talk with the warmaster, but now villages are just 1 room houses.
You now have to work your way up. Ask anyone if they need your 'service' and they'll give you about a dozen quests for bandits and minor monsters. Start with bandits unless you want a quick death. Work your way up, get some followers, and eventually the people will recommend that you talk to a noble who will task you with the more deadly monsters.

Speaking of the bloodline, who's turn is it.
So I'm hunting some low level monster, I enter this floor hatch in the ground.
A dude's corpse, and another dude's skin is lying on the floor.
But so is a chestplate and gold coins so I'm not complaining.
First time doing adventure.
I was told to kill the Mate of the One-eyed Horror (And I didn't mind dying so I decided to go try)
How do I fight? The keybinds just show the stair graphics, 'cause I'm using the Pheobus pack someone linked me. I'm not sure what keys those are supposed to be.
For new guys, just walk into them.
Someone should set up a live stream of them starting a new fortress. It would really help me to be able to watch someone who knows what they're doing play and be able to ask questions at the same time.
