Just a little update - I dumped a few more goblins in there. The goblin swordsman in the top left-most section of the maze (who still had a sword at the time of dumping) survived the longest, but ultimately suffered the most. He lost several limbs and teeth in an attempt to crawl away from the minotaur. Now a couple of trolls have been captured by my dumping traps on the surface, and they're both wounded, so I'll see if they can harm the minotaur. So far he's been completely dominating everything though.
Minotaurs can gain skills too, it sounds like you're making him into a legendary fighter. You should find a way to safely release the Minotaur into enemy sieges, then recapture and hold him until the next siege arrives.
Well, at the moment I'm just tempting the enemy sieges into this hallway of retracting bridge traps that drop them into the labyrinth. Once they're all in there I trap them in so they're stuck there to either get sucked into the maze or wait for my military to come and shoot/slash them to death. Oh wow - I hadn't really been paying close attention to exactly what was going on. I thought he was wearing it, but apparently he's been beating them to death with his giant robe. [editline]5th August 2011[/editline] How did you catch it in the first place?
Oddly enough, it was the first victim of the traps I made that drop things into the labyrinth. Quite an appropriate find. I'm just lucky he survived the fall, considering how big minotaurs are. The wounds he sustained from falling in have already healed completely.

The one who fell in the large room suffered a mortal wound and suffocated to death trying to crawl out of it, and the other one just fled like a coward for a few minutes and was eventually cornered and gored by the minotaur.
If possible, you should equip the minotaur with a full set of steel plate (save for a helmet) and a steel two-handed sword or warhammer. Unstoppable. It would be even better if you could tame it. EDIT: Holy shit minotaurs are bad ass. I didn't realize that goring was so...effective.
I hope you can become a vampire in the new version. That would be pretty awesome.
News Update
We've decided to go ahead and add the ability to perform interactions as an adventurer now, whether they are a basic property of a modded adventurer race or something gained through a curse/secret, etc. Obviously this would have needed to go in at some point, but it was unclear if it was going to happen for this release. I suppose the current peak of this feature will be learning to be a necromancer and then animating your own severed arm as a permanent traveling companion. That's going to be my test case, anyway. That'll probably make your arm into a historical figure with its own entry on the legends screen. I'll have to see how that works.

What is this 'interactions' he speaks of? Like digging n' building n' shit? :O
haha that's awesome though, your arm as a traveling companion. good stuff. why can't the new version come out already ;c

Oh my. Has Toady announced a date for release yet?
What is this 'interactions' he speaks of? Like digging n' building n' shit? :O
Naw that's for later, what he means by interactions is being able to resurrect the dead as thralls, give curses to people, or do other generally magical things (you're a wizard etc.) Would be good since the only interacting you can do right now is ripping arrows/bolts/cheetah heads out of your body once they embed.
Oh my. Has Toady announced a date for release yet?
I don't think he ever has. It doesn't help that he keeps adding new things to this release, but it should be pretty soon.
All I want in the next version is a cleaning designation.
Will there ever be creatures that take up multiple tiles? It seems to me that something like a dragon should take up multiple tiles whereas a bronze colossus ought to take up maybe only 2 but should be multiple z-levels tall. I'd imagine that would take a lot of reworking of the combat system as well, and I wouldn't expect it any time soon, but has Toady ever mentioned anything about it?

I realize now that one of the bigger problems for me with this labyrinth thingy is that there are hundreds of useless items from the goblins just sitting in there. Just recently an entire goblin siege fell down one of the pit traps and the minotaur ripped 'em apart before half of them even regained consciousness from the injuries sustained in the fall. One of them did scratch his leg, though. But anyway, now all their crap is clogging up my maze! I'm going to have to come up with a way to contain my minotaur so the dwarves can perform some routine maintenance.
Just started playing this the other day. It's kinda hard trying to set up a screw pipe for a drinking source.

I suppose that would work... I was hoping to do something far more convoluted and dangerous, though.
has the minotaur picked up any of the weapons in the labyrinth? or is he still just using the robe.
I suppose that would work... I was hoping to do something far more convoluted and dangerous, though.
You could build a Minotaur Holding Cell somewhere near the end of the labyrinth (or in the center) and have it fitted with floodgates. Not sure if a Minotaur can destroy floodgates though (however I'm seeing a Colossus be funneled into an Arena just fine with them, so I imagine floodgates are impervious.)
Hey, what happened to the bloodline?
What is this 'interactions' he speaks of? Like digging n' building n' shit? :O
No he probably means using special abilities or something like animating dead corpses and bodyparts like he says in the quote.
has the minotaur picked up any of the weapons in the labyrinth? or is he still just using the robe.
Yeah, he's still using the robe. He's got about 50 kills with the thing. I don't think anything will actually pick up and use a weapon without you telling it to. Always bugged me in adventure mode as well, when my herbalist pal and I would kill a bunch of well armed bandits and he wouldn't bother upgrading his straw hat and knife. Hey, maybe I'll make minotaurs tame and trainable, and have a stray war minotaur roaming around in there.
Huh, hopefully that'll get added in soon. It seems to me that the beast would want new toys.
I suppose that would work... I was hoping to do something far more convoluted and dangerous, though.
Secondary labyrinth below the first one. Drop him down into it. Get a titan for the first level.

Storngut is a sick name.

Here's the basic layout of the three traps that dump enemies into the labyrinth. The bridges outlined in purple drop them in with the minotaur when something steps on one of the pressure plates. They're usually pretty badly wounded, and occasionally die from the fall. I'm thinking about adding a second set of bridges that lower the fall damage and hold them until I decide to pull a level and release them into the labyrinth. The dotted blue line is a rough outline of the labyrinth. Ah, he killed another siege-full of goblins, but one of his arms was cut open and he got shot with a silver bolt in his other arm... then a troll gored out one of his teeth. I certainly hope he's alright! Now these two trolls are just running around in the maze completely avoiding him, since they're significantly faster than he is. Gah! Those fiends, a squad of goblin crossbowmen fell down and shot him five times before he managed to kill them all. They even shot him in the spine and shot one of his horns off.
