Because plump helmet men burn nearly indefinitely with no ill effects, I am now playing as a !!plump helmet man adventurer!!
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL57C3E6F6FA52B85B I've finished the basic tutorial now. Twenty parts. I'm quite happy with it, but I'm going to do random stuff added on in the future, dealing with stuff like moods.
I really tried to play this game, but i spawned and all i saw was darkness and "a cavern has collapsed". I don't get it :S
It automatically brought the game's camera down to where there was the cave-in. If you hit F1, it will bring you up to where your dwarves parked their wagon.
By the way, the OP should change the tutorial section. It has capnduck's 2009 video in a god-awful quality. [editline]11th August 2011[/editline] I'm looking for some save(s) either just before a Forgotten Beast spawns, or a mood occurs. This would be much appreciated, as my tutorial series, although it did cover a lot of good stuff, it skimped out on forgotten beasts and moods, one of the essentials. I'll give you credit, of course, if you provide me with a save, as well as my eternal love <3
Do you have a source of plain water (preferably a well)? It'll make them unhappy, but they'll still be alive.
I wouldn't have made the post if that was the case. I keep embarking in temperate areas and the winter months for my dwarfs are deadly. I'm afraid to reload the save since almost all my dwarves are about to die.
I have a bunch of items in the way of a building, I set them to dump and everything but no one wants to throw them away
Still having this same problem. Also, have far do the z-levels go? They seem to go farther past zero.
Just started playing i think i started a really good fort, since i've struck copper from the get-go but uhh... there's this bird that flashes blue and it says "all under its wings should fear the sky" and it's nesting like 20 units from the entrance to my fort I don't really know what the flashing blue means but the whole fear the sky thing makes me worried :v:

giant bird guard? awesome! [editline]11th August 2011[/editline] fuck, how do i get my dwarfs to dump shit that's above ground, not under?
Still having this same problem. Also, have far do the z-levels go? They seem to go farther past zero.
To get the obvious question out of the way, did you designate a dump?
welp, just lost my first fortress my friendly neighborhood Roc decided to fly down into my fort and murder everything horribly i had gold and stuff too :saddowns: trying to start a new fortress now, why will it only let me take a steel anvil? it's too damn expensive. I'd rather have an iron one
To get the obvious question out of the way, did you designate a dump?
Yeah. Course [editline]11th August 2011[/editline] Cool. Some goblin thief tried to snatch my babies and the guards from the traders killed him before any of mine did. [editline]11th August 2011[/editline] Caught my first would-be goblin thief. :toot:
trying to start a new fortress now, why will it only let me take a steel anvil? it's too damn expensive. I'd rather have an iron one
From what I've heard, it's possible that your world is actually out of iron to make anvils out of, after it was all converted into steel and the mines ran dry. You can always buy one later, though, as long as metalsmithing isn't a huge priority.
yeah, it turns out it has to do with your dwarf's civilization i poked around with the different ones in my world and found one that allowed the iron one just have to trial and error the civs if you want those extra 200 points

If that doesn't work then toggle both an objects forbid and dump status on and off again. Outside of that I'm not sure what you can do.
is there any way that i can get some major FPS increase? 40 is hell for me
I killed a cave dragon with no further injuries than a cut on my leg. I had to stab him about 20 times in the head & throat before he died. [editline] [/editline] then a roc ate me.

They were items from dead elf merchants, if that helps. My dwarves take any other items to the dump but not the items from the merch's.
is there any way that i can get some major FPS increase? 40 is hell for me
Most of that lag is from pathfinding. Walling off areas you don't need anymore (like old mine shafts) can help. Culling some animals would help too. [editline]12th August 2011[/editline]
Did all of those things, still nothing. They were items from dead elf merchants, if that helps. The Hammersdwarf bashes The Minotaur in the head with her -iron war hammer-, bruising the muscle, jamming the skull through the brain and tearing the brain! Good work, soldier! (She saved the militia captain who decided to try and wrestle the minotaur. Didn't go so well, but the injuries could be a lot worse. Nothing lost, thankfully, just a lot of yellow and red. [editline]12th August 2011[/editline] better off than this ram at least
Did all of those things, still nothing. They were items from dead elf merchants, if that helps. My dwarves take any other items to the dump but not the items from the merch's.
Well I don't know what it could be. I would read the wiki article on dumps and if that doesn't give insight you'll either need someone with more expertise or just let the elves rot with their goods. So for some reason in my most successful fort so far plump helms are no longer considered a food. While I had other plants they quickly ran out and my dwarves are now without food and booze, even though my broker says I have 1000+ food stores. Does anyone know what this is about?
Okay so I stumbled upon... semi-molten rocks that I can`t dig through Damp stones (why the fuck) and warm stones. WHERE IS THE MAGMA [editline]12th August 2011[/editline] Can`t even dig deeper anymore because everything is blocked by semi-molten rocks.

The magma is on the other side of the warm stones.
shhh neo The warm stones mean you're about to discover masses of treasure! Keep digging! FOR THE FORTRESS! FOR ARMOK!
shhh neo The warm stones mean you're about to discover masses of treasure! Keep digging! FOR THE FORTRESS! FOR ARMOK!
Personally, I think the best treasure comes standing upright in the middle of giant underground rooms that you can only dig into from the top.
If I stream again will anyone show up this time?
If I stream again will anyone show up this time?
I will :3:.
internet died and stream is over
Damn it, Urist McSleepy. Your only labour is architecture, and I've left you for 5 minutes. Is that bridge designed yet? No. Seriously man, I left you for that long, with a mountain of booze, and all that you did was sit around in your room doing nothing. The caravans need this bridge, and we need the caravans. Ok? Right. Rant over, sorry. Bout bloody time, he did it a few seconds before the caravan arrived.
