Damn it, Urist McSleepy.
Your only labour is architecture, and I've left you for 5 minutes.
Is that bridge designed yet? No. Seriously man, I left you for that long, with a mountain of booze, and all that you did was sit around in your room doing nothing. The caravans need this bridge, and we need the caravans. Ok? Right.
Rant over, sorry.
Bout bloody time, he did it a few seconds before the caravan arrived.
You must wreak your revenge with some kind of a death machine.
Some idiot decided to drop a ledge on him.
Now, what a nasty accident that was... he was sitting there in his burrow, which may have been one square in size, and Urist McMiner was innocently trying to see what would happen if he removed a support.
I may or may not have been responsible for the ledge dropping...
I only actually picked DF up yesterday, I'd tried a few times in the past, but those tutorials by PsiSyndicate really worked better than the text tutorial and CaptainDucks. (though they are still useful)
Still not got the full hang of it, but I can actually do things now :v:
To be honest, I should have just dropped the bridge whilst he was on it, and hoped that he was able to swim for long enough for the river to freeze... that would have been a fitting vengeance...
Here's the items I want moved.

Elf corpses fill me with joy.
Elf corpses fill me with joy.
Me too. That's why I slaughter them every trade session.
Someone probably claimed ownership of those clothes. If that's the case, you can try giving the owners their own cabinets to store them in, and pray that they don't just leave them there for all eternity.

They often wont move-to-stockpile or dump items that they claimed ownership of or are outside or both. You can change the Refuse orders to make them pick up garbage from outside so they will dump items that are outside, but they will not usually move items that they own unless they have chests and cabinets to put them in.

I understand that items can get claimed by owners, but what doesn't make sense are the elf corpses. Who would want to own a dead body?
Holy fuck I forgot I was next for the succession. Going to ~TRY~ and install it myself. First Bloodline/Succesion so ere' we go, tomorrow.

I've finished the basic tutorial now. Twenty parts. I'm quite happy with it, but I'm going to do random stuff added on in the future, dealing with stuff like moods.
please tell me you went in depth with mining and military!? i always get stuck dont know what to do then a fucking pleague comes and kills every one.
I was digging out a big pit under a bridge, and the miner dwarves (only got two) decide to dig out the lower levels before the higher ones and fall several stories and break their legs, luckily only one of them went unconscious and the other one managed to be able to mine out. A lvl 0 surgeon performed on one of them and somehow he survived, after a few seasons one got out of the hospital to mine but his legs are still broken and the other one's still unconscious. fuckin love dis game
FUCK!
Just pressed "t" instead of "enter" whilst dealing with traders.
Ended up giving him a crate worth 2500 for a few copper boots worth something like 300 total.
At least my other 7000 points worth of trade goods were used well. (got 3 spare anvils, a mountain of food, more armour and weapons, crossbows e.t.c)
Emeralds on the surface and underground and a migrant level 13 gem cutter really works... my second fortress ever is staying up nicely... for now.

Well, there's not a huge amount of 'depth' in mining. But I'm going in-depth with military. I posted a few new parts that talks about the military UI. Should be on the playlist now.

Thanks, I've been using those and you're much more thorough with them. Hell, even the death in the glacier taught me a lot about construction outside and how to quickly prepare.

Glad to hear people enjoy it! The basic tutorial is entirely finished now, all in it's 6 hours of glory. Pretty damn huge, but as you say James, I do get sidetracked a wee bit sometimes.

My legendary squad got into a fight with a FB with poison, necrotic, vapors. They all lived after having every bit of their body being rotten, but are now blind zombies.
No death in battle or anything, fucking grim shit man.
[editline]14th August 2011[/editline]
Also, how useful are blind soldiers?

Was tired and read "press T to add goods, Enter to trade" or the like. Felt really stupid afterwards! Maybe I should wear my glasses, too...
I'm sorry I have to do this.
They will be the Children of Armok.

!!SCIENCE!!
I think I will try this.
I worry about the child going berserk first, but maybe if you get him to "Not care about anything anymore" he will become immune to emotion.
I heard dropping puppies a few Z levels would do that to a dwarf, so maybe a one tile behind a window that you drop puppies into from a good 10 z levels in front of the child.
