So started a new fort.
Right, food's set up, starting to mine down.
Migrant wave No1! sweet
Oh they have a metalcrafter? That's a bit useless since I don't have any metal in the first few months of my game, but alright.
Metalcrafter got a mood
well fuck
Best start making some metals.
Also, I'm bathing a child in miasma in my yearcare center.
If two tame animals breed will a tame animal be born?
I had a forgotten beast attack, zone out, then zone back in with no warning approaching one of my cavern exits. Quickly had to scramble my 3 armys (Silver Battle Hammers, All steel armor) to the cavern. They killed it without taking a single hit.
Oh my god a guy made a GOBLIN BONE WAR HAMMER.
Now I don't know how usefull it will be but god damn it is cool.
I believe, in general, artifact weapons are superior to all other types, being only slightly better than adamantine.

funny, because a forgotten beast just killed all 53 of my dwarfs
:(

Or silver, if you're considering maces/hammers, right? Mostly because an adamantine warhammer is about as useful as a styrofoam club.

What they say about the water/dust ones being weak is completely true.

I thought they just level up skills faster, so I gave it to one of my new hammerdorfs to train.
Plus beating naked and unarmed Goblin prisoners with a magnificent hammer made of the bones of their kin seems like some real grim justice.
a hallway is starting to flood
fucked up a well reservoir and fucked up by making a down ramp instead of an up ramp
water source is a river so it doesn't seem like the water will ever stop coming
so what i need to know is:
is there any way to get the water out and
how resistant are walls to water pressure
The only way to remove the water from your for now is to either build a system of pumps and empty it out over several years or somehow breach it into a cavern. Your dwarves will be unable to place a wall due to the currents and hazardous building conditions presented by the flowing water.
It's safe to assume that all levels below and on the level of the breach are now under Neptune's domain.
managed to do damage control and isolate the flooded area
how resistant are walls to water pressure?
I'd upload a picture but facepunch is being dumb
Built walls and natural walls are completely immune to the effects of all pressure/monsters/magma/water/etc. The only thing that can take down a wall is a Dwarf.

actually, the multiplier for quality is the highest possible, but the material's properties still make a difference.
http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Quality
essentially, an artifact is three times as likely to hit as a weapon of the same material, so they are better for training up skills. it has almost no effect on the damage it can deal, as masterwork weapons have the maximum edge (for sharp weapons) for that material.
simply put, a bone warhammer is cool, but mostly useless.
now where's that 'the more you know' thing when you need it?
At least artifact shields are undeniably better than any of their regular ol' counterparts. Especially if it's made of platinum or something...
Is platinum hard, as in useful as an armor?
Is platinum hard, as in useful as an armor?
As you would expect in real life, no. Platinum can't even be made into armor iirc.
But if you get an artifact Platinum warhammer. Damn. Just....Damn. Just.............Damn.
Why not just sell that shit? Gotta be worth a fair amount.
worth the same as aluminium, but heavier, so caravans can take less of your useless crap made of it.
good for statues and furniture though.
Thinking of doing a live stream of the game, new fort, just for fun.
How many of you would watch it?

For Fun? If so, embark right next to a goblin fortress or zombie infested land of the sort.

Well I could do that one day. I don't think I'm confident enough in my skills to do a straight-up goblin fort or haunted lands just yet.
Well, not live at least
well in any case, if anyone wants to get into Dorf Fortress I could set up a stream with my mic on and answer any questions they may have
IMO learning live is better than watching tutorials :v:
I think this music would be appropriate for playing dwarf fortress

My dwarf mason made a legendary stone...
floodgate.
I'M SO IMPRESSED
Can pure silver bars be smelted into armor and weapons or does it have to be mixed with something first? Same with copper?
the bars can be turned into weapons/armor by themselves
i think silver's good for maces and the like because it's heavy
both miners died in a freak mining accident and i have no metals
do i just have to wait for the next caravan that comes along to get more picks and stuff?
Can pure silver bars be smelted into armor and weapons or does it have to be mixed with something first? Same with copper?
Copper doesn't have to be mixed, unless your talking about coal/coke/charcoal, which is a fuel. But yeah, they can and are great for blunt weapons.

sure i would love to. watch and learn.
I can do one later today if anyone wants
well I'll do one regardless if anyone wants to or not, doesn't matter to me :v:
Wow, Just got a strange mood and from amongst all my steel, gems and many other rare materials I got...
A limestone mug. Don't worry though, it's covered in spikes!
