I've asked this before but never got an answer. Why won't my dwarf brewer make any booze? There's plenty of empty barrels, I have a ton of plump helmets sitting in the stockpile, and there's several dwarves I've assigned the skill to in hopes that one of them will do it.
I get some message saying "no distillable storage item" or something, but i'm staring directly at the empty barrels as I speak. I've tried pots too.

Try putting the barrels right next to the still, maybe the poor dwarf can't reach them for some reason.
Wow, Just got a strange mood and from amongst all my steel, gems and many other rare materials I got...
A limestone mug. Don't worry though, it's covered in spikes!
The spikes on it siphon out the enemy's blood, and then you can drink it. Blood for the Blood God after all.
Best mood I had was a leather hat ringed with water. Yes, water, like it just magically floated there.
I can do one later today if anyone wants
well I'll do one regardless if anyone wants to or not, doesn't matter to me :v:
I added you on steam so you may contact me when the stream happens cause i only look here like 3 or 4 times a day.

Yes, the dwarf universe is an odd, odd place.
I think this music would be appropriate for playing dwarf fortress

But the dwarves in that video have KNEES!
My adventurer fought through around sixty zombies in the tower, killed the necromancer, learned the secrets of life and death, and then raised various limbs (not my own). Then I talked to one of them, and it told me that it was peasant. It was flattered but had no need of my services. I imagine its little fingers were shaped into the form of a mouth and they flapped back and forth while it spoke with a high-pitched voice. I guess there's still work to do.
Watching it now. I registered so I could chat in the stream. But apparently I can't log in for some reason. (doesn't give me any error messages). But I will be a quiet bystander then I guess.
You can add me on Steam if you want to chat
It's easier for me anyway.

If I ever manage to learn the secrets to Necromancy, I'm going to go resurrect an army of cave monsters and overrun a dark fortress with them. Then, I'll retire, and suddenly every character from then onwards I play in that world will be playing Dungeons and Dragons: Hardcore DM Doesn't Give A Shit Edition.
My animals are apparently starving, how do I make them eat anything?
My animals are apparently starving, how do I make them eat anything?
make a pasture on some grass and they will eat and hang there.
my gem setter had a mood and all he took was a single uncut gem :|
make a pasture on some grass and they will eat and hang there.
Well I did make a pasture but they didn't go there and eat. They could go outside and all.
so
I had my axedwarves in my Danger Room. Yeah, I know. Exploits. But stick with me, it was worth it.
So they're all in there, when suddenly one of the female dwarves give birth. Through her steel plate armor. The baby then flies into the ground, at which point it is impaled by a wooden spike.
The dead baby's mother is ecstatic because she witnessed a fine Weapon Rack.
oh yes, and then the mother's next action was to drag the dead impaled baby's body outside and toss it onto the ground

Make a pasture and assign animals to it with N
i just built a coffin and the mother decided to bury her long dead pet bird instead of her slowly rotting impaled baby
I think I might have found the worst mother in all of history.

Most awesome mother in all of dwarfstory
I have a special pet cemetery.

That means he used ice to make the rings. Pretty cool.
damn, failed two moods in a row because i had no silk. I hate when they ask for textiles or clear glass.

Glass is the easy thing to make, I just hate when they want leather or silk.
Also, Is it possible to un-assign hunting or wardogs from my hunter? I accidentally assigned my two gate-dogs to him and I'm too impatient to wait for all these puppies to grow up.
I just found out that valley herbs grow just outside my fortress.
fucking jackpot.
Hm, why won't my woodworker chop trees or do anything? She has a battleaxe, she have done it before. But now she just sits in the meeting hall and doesn't do anything. Even though there should be pending jobs. I don't have any other woodcutter then her and I need her to cut that wood!
Is there anyway to fix this?

I'm assuming you selected a bundle of trees for her to cut down in the (D)esignation menu? Cutting trees and mining aren't automatic things like hunting or fishing.

Of course. I designated a lot of trees.

Check the route to your trees. It's possible that he simply can't reach them.

She can go to the trees, sometimes she just go to the surface and stand right next to a tree doing nothing.
