Haha, I love this, I was ambushed by a group of 6 goblins, as someone who is somewhat new to the military aspect of the game I tend to make a military very late on. I didn't have a military for this ambush so I was like brainstorming for half an hour trying to decide what to do before they reach the front gate.
I ended up desperately attempting to build a temporary wall up to hold them off at the burrow, but it turned out that these two random migrants dwarves who were just waltzing around outside slaughtered them all before they got close to the gate. I'm never underestimating migrants again.
So I'm about to go on a 5 hour plane ride with only the lazy newb pack...
Think thats enough time to lose a game of DF?

Is the woodcutting labor enabled in the labor menu?
Anyone know a good way to obtain obsidian?

Holy fuck. I have a legendary stone crafter +5 and he can make a legendary craft every like second my people cant move the objects fast enough. so, my people are starting to have bad moods what should i do i have engraved bed rooms and dinning area. im unsure because their all content but i wish for them to be happy.
Build statues and cabinets in evry room.
Thanks it actually made most my people a little bit happier now the only thing bad now is that my commander got his left left leg god fucked up now he cant walk with it and uses one leg some how. now hes slowly declining in happiness.
Make him a crutch in the carpentry workshop. When he gets his crutchwalking skill to "Legendary" he'll be as fast as he was with both legs.
Jesus shit these cage traps are so overpowered
WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THESE 54 GOBLINS I DON'T EVEN HAVE A PIT TO THROW THEM IN

Sell them to traders so you can buy more boxes of cloth.

i am unsure on how to assign him a crutch because he does not use one normally. the doctors notes do say that his "ability to stand lost" "motor nerve damage" "sensory nerve damage" and his left leg's "fat" "skin" "muscle" on the upper part were injured and no treatments can be taken.
[editline]19th August 2011[/editline]
wait what. my people were fighting yaks and they dropped almost all of their armor on the floor what the christ.

If the nerves are damaged then they should heal eventually. If they're severed then your Dwarf is crippled. It might be your Dwarf'll heal eventually.
should i be scared? "Ilathe Savanna Titan" he is a gigantic blob composed of snow. It has two short tails and it moves deliberately.
If the nerves are damaged then they should heal eventually. If they're severed then your Dwarf is crippled. It might be your Dwarf'll heal eventually.
ok cool. that is good even though hes been like that for i think 2-3 years I'm not sure though.
Probably a Weak titan send someone and have a look.
Probably a Weak titan send someone and have a look.
i attacked it with 3 of my dwarfs they dodged every hit and killed it with no damage to their selfs. he was so weak.

As a blob made of a non harmful substance, I think a few Dwarves with at least a rough idea about combat would do pretty well against it. If it was made of acid or something I guess things might be different.
Holy shit, I gave adventure mode a try a few days ago, and made a lasher who spawned with a silver whip. Any humanoid that feels pain is pretty much fucked - he either chips a bone causing them to give into pain, or cracks the skull into the brain, instantly killing them.
Seems that silver whips are massively overpowered as the game seems to think that the whole weight of the whip is the tip, and it moves at an insane speed...
So my mason went on a rampage, and everyone was running away from him untill this happened:

These are the only entries in the battle. One hit with the left, and one with the right, tearing the brain through the skull :ohdear:

Well, that's your next military leader sorted.
Once a Bronze Colossus attacked my fortress. My Militia Commander was a tough old cow that insisted on carrying her baby into battle. Unfortunately during the fight she dropped her baby, and I shit you not the baby crawled up and punched the Bronze Colossus. The Bronze Colossus threw the baby so hard at the wall it exploded. Its mother attacked it and got repeatedly punched and kicked. She broke all her limbs and most of her ribs and suffered major internal injuries.
I can only assume rage sustained her because she spent the next 2 years in hospital suffering her bones being reset, surgery and infected wounds before being declared fit for duty. The baby, truly the Fortress' bravest hero was given a burial befitting of any Dwarf. We used the Bronze Colossus as a Statue in the main Dining Hall.

I predict great things for this child
I'm tempted to see how a duplicate raw fortress would go, I will probably start on it when my current fortress falls.
In other news, my militia commander managed to fight off no less than 5 goblin ambush, injuring three of them & causing them to retreat before giving in to pain. My only surviving doctor is currently attempting surgery. seeing as there is already blood (belonging to him) all over the hospital, I don't expect him to live.
the commander had no armour and only a bronze shield and short sword to defend himself with. He also happens to be friends/ best friends with just about everyone in the fortress, so after the recent booze shortages, kobold masterwork thefts and kidnappings, I fully expect this to be the last straw. if it isn't I will cause a loyalty cascade because they seem like fun.
Addendum:
It would appear that several of my dwarves have infected wounds.
this should be interesting.
It would also appear that the surgeon is not performing surgery per say.
It would be more appropriate to say that he is bleeding the militia commander like a stuck pig.
I'm tempted to see how a duplicate raw fortress would go, I will probably start on it when my current fortress falls.
That could be a very fun succession game.
Can dwarves access containers/cabinets from any direction? One of my fortresses I worked on yesterday that eventually failed was getting spammed with "Dwarf canceled retrieve personal item: item inaccessible." or something like that, and like half my fortress starved to death with them all just sitting there in their rooms.
Also, can doctor dwarves help pets too?
so how does time work in DF?
Does it restart in the year the region was generated every time you start a new fortress?
Or is it continuous every time you abandon/start a new fort?
