My new embark is a glacier.
I intend to build a 100z-level drop tower with an altar at the bottom.
How would i go about using obsidian to make walls because isnt obsidian the best walls to use.
all walls are the same.
i think wooden ones can be knocked down by building destroyers though, not too sure.
no i tried 2 ways now i tried forbiding all rocks other then obsidian and telling my mason to make blocks and it said "no non-eco rocks blah blah blah" and then i just tried to build the walls with b>C>w and no obsidian.
So, just lost my fortress a second time to harpies (so in 30 minutes that I played I lost it twice). I thought my military dwarf would be smart enough to grab the axe when I told him to attack, guess not.
Now that I think of it, maybe I should check the uniform to make sure he is ordered to equip it (I think I'm starting to become lazy due to the update coming soon, kinda losing motivation since I'll have to restart everything soon).

Sounds like it isn't allowed as a building material for some reaseon.
If you press z to view the stocks screen and then goto the stones screen iirc you should see a few different menu items concerning different types of stone. Obsidian should be in one of those (propbably in written in red) and if you press enter while selecting it it should turn green and you should be able to use it.
Could someone teach me how to play and how to change the tileset? I want to get into the game but I'm having a hard time.
Also why is there no Warhammer mod yet?
There was. At least... a long time ago. I remember playing with it once, you played as Imperial Guard. Don't really remember it, no idea if there were any other 40k races. I just remember embarking in a desert and dying very fast.

So in my vault everyone but 2 dwarves are alive (soon going to be 1 due to one dwarf having melancholy). My mason is the only sane one, even though he is missing his left arm and saw all of his friends get brutally killed by a crocodile he is still truckin' on.

you can't use obsidian, as it has the [MAX_EDGE:] tag.
this also allows it to be used in making swords.
Also why is there no Warhammer mod yet?
I started a Warhammer Fantasy mod but then I lost my motivation to mod being anxious about the new update..damn.
The new update seems to drain people's mind and motivation.

Like any normal guardsman!
i need to stop having ocd about how my base looks. like if i fuck up on one thing i always feel like restarting would be the best choice so im now on a quest to find out the most efficient base design.

Six dwarves held off a siege by themselves, candy is a helluva thing.
A Giant olm snuk into my fortress, I didn't had a military so i made my miners a squad, one struck the creature in the head with his axe while the other punched it in the leg. :V
I have just found an amazing location for my very first fortress, Calm surroundings, Forest biome, Warm climate, Fluxstone, Shallow and Deep Metals, and large amount of soil and clay (thus no aquifers), right next to a 3-4 high mountainside and a brook.
The problem is, the whole place is filled with little ponds and the mountain is full of them too, giving me virtually no space to mine in without releasing the content of the pools of water.
What should I do? I expected it to be as easy as just mining in the mountain and carving out the rooms and the hallways.
Hey guys guess who forgot to make sure the floodgate in his magma delivery system was made of a magma safe material.
50 dead. Maybe more. I think like 5 of those were babies.

Tunnel downwards until water stops appearing, and do shit there.

I only make Meeting Zones, no dining rooms.
No parties in my fortress.
We have zombies to kill!

Is this a thing?
What's the difference between the two?
If you use the zones command to designate a meeting zone rather than making a dining room or a statue garden or whatever, Dwarves won't organise parties while still using the area for what they normally would if it were a public room.

Bingo, I love it.
Less parties more work.
Downside is keeping the Dorf's happy is a tad trickier overall.
Upside is they dont make as many friends and spirals are less likely.
I just have the dining hall set in the meeting zone, a 'meeting area' is unnecessary. Dorfs won't host parties with all be good benefits of legendary dining halls.
