Spikes of adamantine, of course.
That's silly, Adamantine sucks.
Microline is were all the fun is at.
Spikes of water, hanging rings of wood, bones of adamantine, magma blood, pure miasma as fat, iron skin, and with ballista breath powers.

Too weak for a forgotten beast. We can add deadly dust somewhere...
That's silly, Adamantine sucks.
Yeah, I made a ton of war hammers out of it, and now my dwarves are dying of hunger before they can kill the invaders...

Don't forget it has to be a blob, so a dwarf can't lop off anything for an insta-kill.
Holy shit, just downloaded the game and went into Arena Mode.
I put one guy up against another one, both unarmed, no armor, no skill in anything. The guy on the right (Dwarf 20) wins the fight immediately. I give him another. And another. And another. Then I put him against three others.
He dispatches the first two in seven seconds real time, then then rips the third one's toe off, pounds his hands into hamburger meat, latches onto his face tearing the cheek, and wins by strangling him to death with his bare hands.
Yeah, he just put a guy in a joint lock, shattered his ribs, and jammed the skull through the brain. He currently has 14 injuries, his head is cut open and dented, and basically every part of his body is either smashed open or bruised.
I have decided to let him face the Cyclops.
[editline]15th September 2011[/editline]
He fucking won.
He was struck down by a war leopard that I forgot about, but he still took the Cyclops down.
Dwarf 20, September 15 2011, Never Forget.
Are arena creature stats randomised or is there any other explanation?
Must have been a superstrong super endurant dwarf.
Yeah, I made a ton of war hammers out of it, and now my dwarves are dying of hunger before they can kill the invaders...
Adamantine sucks for warhammers because it's such a light material. Make edged weapons out of it, not blunt weapons. For example swords, axes etc.
Oh and adamantine arrows/bolts suck too, so don't make em.

I just put them 1v1 and let the winner face another dwarf, like a tournament. It builds up their fighting skills pretty nicely.
One thing i've noticed, so far all of my super strong dwarves have had extremely long/very long hair. Is there a connection associated with that?
Aryan dwarves
Edit:
Nazi fortress, controlledly breed your strongest and most intelligent dwarves while isolating and executing the weak.
Burn Elves in a magma pit for Megadwarf points?
[editline]15th September 2011[/editline]
Actually, I guess I can take the weak dwarves and throw them down a chasm like this

I always thought Toady was going to add in the ability to shave/cut your hair/beard/mustache in a later update, since every Human, Dwarf or Elf you'll meet tends to have extremely long hair.
A Sweeney Todd style barber prone to bouts of rage would certainly be a memorable Dwarf.

"So Grimsdrith, what brings ye to the fort?"
"HOLIDAY."
Oh dear it appears my noble had an accident, then another accident since he survived the first time.
If only he stopped jamming pickaxes in the dogs and worker drones.
I need ideas for execution of goblin prisoners. I already have an arena, a pit of wardogs, a Minotaur's labyrinth, and a breach over a natural chasm to throw goblins into the caverns. I am working on a tower to drop/launch goblins off of, and 1x1 pits of each trap, and a goblin trapped in a 1x1 tile across a chasm for my crossbowdwarves. I also have plans for a drowning/magma execution chamber, and a drop into the magma sea itself.
Now that's the simple stuff, any other ideas?

Put an actual Minotaur in the maze, train your militia recruits against the goblins in the arena, put the tower above the natural chasm to throw them into, can't really think of anything else.
I tamed a roc once. that would have been nice for an arena/labyrinth.
too bad I didn't think of that at the time.

Psh, why would I make a Minotaur maze without a Minotaur? He rips people's shit like nobodies business. The arena makes sure all my dwarves are legends, so I did that too. The chasem is in the caverns, so it'd be hard to make a "tower". I could make the platform higher though.

First fort ever.
Let's do this.

This is a simple idea (well, not simple for a total retard like me) but what about modifying the drowning / magma chamber to flood with water, then encase them in obsidian with the magma?
This is a simple idea (well, not simple for a total retard like me) but what about modifying the drowning / magma chamber to flood with water, then encase them in obsidian with the magma?
Well I got an idea for that, sort of. I am going to have a dwarf standing on a bunch of grates that are over a large pit, I will pour magma on him, burning away his flesh/fat and falling onto dozens of goblin prisoners who are immersed in water, obsidianizing them. If he lives, I will gear him with the finest armor of adamantine and steel, and the finest weapon I can give him. The obsidian at the bottom of the shaft will be mined out and turned into statues, bearing his very own flesh and the flesh of our enemies, and I will adorn his room with them. He will bathe in the blood of the goblin prisoners I present to him, and will be a God among Gods.
And so the group of explorers known as Blisterballs The Hairy Donkey-Anus Of Incest settles its first fort, Bowelswallow the Bane Of Virginity. Composed of such well-known figures as Pokey "Organ Bruiser" Bimtomem, Zezibesh "Save As Jpeg" Tosidthak, Firerain "Doggy Dog" Illrallorbam, Orkel "Atom Smasher" Katthizruntir, Tampong "Macaque Strangler" Thadduni, Mr. N "Goblin Executioner" Zonudill, an Wilford "Biadeetus" Bomrekarek, I am fairly confident I can make it last up until the first Goblin ambush. I guess i'll post pictures if anything huge happens.

I think my game is glitching. I tried to embark near a mountain and lake, but it's giving me all tundra, even though it's temperate. There's a big Y looking thing which I guess is supposed to be a river, but it's light blue and says Open Space when I use Look on it. The grass didn't pop in until a full minute into the game, and after messing around with Z levels, nothing works. There's actually several levels under the Y thing, one of them has walls consisting entirely of ore, and right below that one is another Open Space Y. I designated some trees to be cut down on the other side of the hole in the space-time continuum, and a dwarf went aaaallll the way up the landspace, then went into a darkened area and teleported to the other side. He's been staring at that tree for like the past two minutes. Designating things also doesn't work at ALL, except for the trees. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
On the bright side, one of my arena tourney dwarves just brought someone down by their ear, then kicked them in the head and killed them :v:

That's one fucking hardcore kid.
I don't know if anyone has said this before, but StoneSense should definitely be in the utilities.
It makes it more easily playable for those who cannot stand ASCII.

When I last used it was more of a pretty isometric visualizer, not something you could actually play on. I suppose this has changed.
Still, ASCII is probably faster and more convenient.
I have a little problem with my water reservoir, the water gets muddy for no reason.
The floor and the walls are made of stone (both were smoothed and engraved for no reason at all), but the water still has mud in it.
[t]http://localhostr.com/files/8tja9Ex/whymuddy1.png[/t]
1 Z-level above the reservoir.
[t]http://localhostr.com/files/XfgsZ2Q/whymuddy2.png[/t]
The reservoir itself.
Could someone help me?

I think it's supposed to do that. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to do underground irrigated farms.
